I own a jaguar sovereign 4.2 v8 2006 x350 model, bought it for £4000, yes the maintenance is a bit pricy ( seems like £1000 everytime I go to the garage 😀 ) and she is thirsty but it is an absolute dream to drive, and it is unique nothing looks like it on the road literally you can park next to the German cars and the jaguar will always get the looks and a smile 😃😊

Deffiently the jaguar xj would be the best to go for. Parts a reasonably priced and there easy enough to work on. Main issue is corrosion but welding repairs are cheap enough to sort of you know what your doing. Only one serious issue with the jag is the timing chan tensioner but yet again easy enough job and in expensive

What rubbish about the Jag fuel consumption, I had a 2000MY 4.0 long wheelbase Sovereign for nearly eight years before someone drove into the side of it and it never returned less than 24mpg and would regularly return 34mpg on a run, I cannot comment on the BMW as I have never owned one but I was lucky enough to have the use of a Rolls Royce of this vintage one summer and I never bettered more than 18mpg also Jaguar have massive parts backup for older models not only from the manufacturer but from reputable companies like SNG Barrett and David Manners whereas I found with Rolls Royce although there are a number of specialists that will service and repair them for sensible money many of the parts are Rolls Royce supply only and are bloody expensive.

The Nikasil thing is a non issue, anything that had the sulphur in fuel eating the Nikasil will be long gone. If any are still around and running well, they won't be any worse than an iron liner engine of same mileage. More of an issue is timing chain tensioners falling apart, it needs the latest version to be reliable.

All these cheapskates have four doors. The obvious cheaper coupe is the Bentley Continental GT but significantly more expensive than these to buy and to run. The maybe less obvious alternative is the Mercedes CL (C216) from 2006+, which you can get from 7K for one with moderate miles with a 383hp n-a V8. You can also get a 510hp V12 turbo for about double that, as well as the later 4.7L V8 turbo, and an AMG V8 and V12. Maintenance costs certainly shoudn't be more than the BMW or RR, and good examples of all but the AMG V12 can be had for less than 15k. A C216 V12 (CL600) actually delivers an experience quite similar to the Wraith (better in some respects, not quite as good in others) for less than a seventh of the price of cheapest Wraith currently for sale.

My friend thought by buying an LE Toyota Camry that it would be like the Lexus LS 430 and he realized, absolutely not. I guess until you’ve owned one u wouldn’t know. I’ve had a brand new Mercedes E430 4Matic topping out at $101,000, it was a lemon. We had a BMW seven series and BMW three series they were lemons. Seven BMWs on our street, all of them were replaced in three years by all the doctors. We had an Audi TT brand new it was a lemon.
