    We took our 2019 Winnebago Navion 24D up the Alaska Highway in July of 2019 and spent a month and a half exploring the beautiful state. Today, we'll cover places like Seward, Whittier, Valdez, Denali National Park and Chena Hot Springs, giving you our tips and must-see and do activities.
    A lot of you have asked where our Alaska Vlogs are, and the truth is, we didn't HAVE a TH-cam channel back then. 🤣 While it feels like forever already, we launched our Newstate Nomads channel in 2020, and can't thank everyone enough for joining us on our journeys! Since you're along for the ride, we're going to do our best to give you what you want.

    Two of my favorite Alaska spots were the Homer spit and Denali. We flew into Anchorage and rented an RV for the week. With the never ending daylight, we would travel and experience Alaska up until about 1:30 am. While on the bus in Denali, we watched a grizzly chase a moose right towards our bus. (The moose outran the bear.) But the bear came back along the road and walked within feet of our parked bus. The driver said she had never seen anything like it.

      @NewstateNomads  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thanks for sharing those memories, Gene! We only saw a grizzly once during our visit, from a distance, on the bus. It was so far away, you could barely identify it, but that was plenty close. 😂 Renting an RV is a great point, and I'll have to remember that for a future video on Alaska. Thanks for watching, glad you're along for the journey! -Howard

    You guys would be at 50K subs right now if you started your VLOGS on the AK adventure......every thing you showed us looks amazing......it makes me want to go there right now......
    I guess you just have to go back next summer!!!!
    On that note.....you should put a poll out to your current subs and let US vote on where you go after Mexico.....now that would be fun!!!

      Alaska is definitely a vloggers dream, Cash! We are glad that we at least had some footage from our travels up there, and that is some high praise if you think we'd be that big of a channel already. ❤️ Stay tuned, our plans keep evolving (just like everyone else, lol) and we hope to share some very exciting news soon with the community! Polls sound like a great idea, btw! We need to start doing them. 👍 -Howard

    Alaska is such a beautiful state...we took a cruise, and set sail from Whittier. This was in 2006 for our 30th anniversary. We really want to return now that we have our Navion, but have heard SOOOOO many horror stories about repeated broken windshields and windows, gravel and rock damage to the paint finish, that we are seriously thinking maybe not to do the tour with “Lucy.” You showed us such beautiful scenery... though.!

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Virginia, thanks so much for watching and sharing your memories! We heard the same horror stories, but the truth is that all the major roads are paved coming in and also connecting tons of points of interest in Alaska. Are there gravel roads? Sure, but we didn't drive on them. The frost heaves are generally marked with a pink marker on the roadside or you look for where the yellow lines appear squiggly. Ironically, we got a cracked windshield after leaving Alaska from a truck kicking one up on a paved road in the Yukon! If you have hesitation about road conditions, there is also the ferry that departs from Washington and BC you can take up and back. 👍 -Howard

      Newstate Nomads Hi Howard... you’re right about that ferry, although we hear it’s extremely expensive, plus, we wanted to camp it like you two. Windshields can always be replaced, which def outweighs the traveling in our Navion through-out Alaska. It’s such a beautiful state, we gotta go again!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!! I so enjoyed this video as it brought back the many great memories of my trip there. My greatest surprise was how much I loved Kenai Fijords National Park. The abundance of wildlife and sea life was amazing. We also drove from our home base of Anchorage to Valdez. It was quite a long drive but we loved seeing the scenery. Of course Denali was wonderful and your video of the sled dogs reminded me of how much we enjoyed the demo. Take care!

    We visited Alaska on a 2 week land and cruise tour in 2007. It was incredible! You are right about feeling uneasy hiking in bear country. We were on a hike in the snow and saw bear scat so we hightailed it back to the resort. 😂 This is before we knew anything about bear spray. 🤭🤭😊

    Thank you for all the useful tips!! I am planning my husband's and I first RV trip, and first time in Alaka this summer! I have everything booked, but the camping stops. We'll only have about 7 days to enjoy, arriving in Anchorage, my plans are to visit mainly Denali park, Valdez, and Kenai Fjords (with other stops along the way, of course!), but I'd like your option on which route to take from Anchorage - should I head to Denali first and then back to Kenai Fjords after looping around Valdez, or should we start in Whitter, Seward, Kenai Fjords, then head to Denali? So may amazing places, such little time!! I cannot wait! I have written down so may of your tips, one day maybe we can explore with more time! Thanks :)

      @@NewstateNomads yeah, seen the other one as well. We really havnt done a whole lot of research. Just kinda want to wing it and wander around and visit as,much as possible. We have put bog,class A RV , but have been looking at smaller campers to pull behind our Wrangler so we can get into the woods a bit more and stop at unscheduled places we find interesting as we pass them kinda thing. How far could I go in the class A RV without being on too crazy of bad roads?

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely wing it, that's mostly what we did. Only reservations we made in advance was for Denali because that fills up so quickly. All the major roads connecting the popular towns in the south and west are paved. Past Fairbanks in the north, it switches to gravel if you really want to reach the artic circle. The famous Dempster Highway is all gravel. We stuck to paved roads except for visiting McCarthy which wasn't THAT bad of a gravel road. If you bring a tow vehicle with your class A, shouldn't be a problem for almost anywhere you'd want to explore. 👍
