  • It's boarding day on our last day in Dubai. Full ship tour, without seeing any people. Am I supposed to be here?

    Well, this came up after I finished your most recent posting - the QEII was my very first cruise ship! We did an 11 day Caribbean out of New York. If you want to figure out when that was, we were on board (we received daily newspapers under the door every morning) when we first heard that John Lennon had been shot and killed. I remember a great deal about the experiences, but it doesn't look much like it did back then. I do remember we had an inside cabin on Deck 5 - in the bowels of the ship. Thank you for the trip down memory lane - though the ghost ship bit was rather creepy!

      We had a lovely chat with the couple at the end. They were also there for memory lane. No doubt it was more glamourous back then. But even as a hotel, it needs a ton of work to get it to that level again.

    For those wondering, there’s a main reception building at the front with concierge etc… you then walk into the ship and into the main entrance atrium.I was there a few days ago, was this a few months back? Not surprised you didn’t see anyone- it’s for hide and seek champions! A couple of things closed are now open and it’s not the high season. You missed various restaurants, pub, swimming pool, rolls Royce etc… The ship is absolutely huge and still a work in progress. I would have suggested the tour which would explain a lot to you. It’s absolutely amazing.

      I left some things out as the video was getting too long, yes. The tour was not running at the time, unfortunately. It was on my list. Nevertheless, I liked it a lot! Thanls for the added info! 😎

    Of course you have to experience the modern Ocean Liner QM2 on the same traditional route from Southampton to New York, where you can travel in style wearing a tuxedo for Gala dinners

    Wow...looks like a challenge on the QE2...my wife's grandfather was a head waiter on the QE2 in the 1960s, we tried to get on a year ago and it was closed for renovation. Great Vlog series and Melie is a perfect addition. Well done Bram

    Terrific and fun vlog. Every time you said “Ghost Ship” we were thinking the same. So happy when you found Mellie soaking up some rays. We really enjoy the music and content of your vlogs and you always leave us smiling and informed.😊

    Going to have 8 ports back to back. First for me with no sea day I think I will have to skip 2. Take a break and enjoy the ship .

    The QE2 was built in the late 1960s, the era of the Vietnam War, the UK in a major recession, when bell bottom pants were cool & Benjamin in the movie "The Graduate" was told the in thing was plastic. So unlike the QM2 (launched in 2004) or older ocean liners like the QM (of 1934), the QE2 isn't too fancy & lacks old-time history. The sheik who owns it may eventually want to scrap it (most YT vids of the former ship show visitors are often dressed up as empty halls & deckways) & replace it with - when it's retired probably in the 2030s - the QM2.

    • @kfkwAL7
      @kfkwAL7 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      “The QE2 isn’t fancy or lacks old time history” sorry I disagree on both counts. I think a quick google on the most famous liner in the world might change your mind. It was also only opened in its current form in 2018 and is still undergoing a massive renovation. It’s now being managed by Accor who manage over 5000 hotels worldwide with no plans to retire it…

    • @gridley
      @gridley 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kfkwAL7 The ship appears to be relatively clean, so its need for a renovation would be more to redesign its interiors than to fix areas that are rundown. The QE2 dates back to the late 1960s/early 1970s, so it's not historic in a really old-time way. The QM of the 1930s comes from the era of WW2 & early 20th century glamour. Comparing the QE2's interiors with the ones from the QM2 (launched in 2004) indicates the 2000s were more ambitious in fanciness compared with the era of the Vietnam War or the Brady Bunch. The QM2 has an impressive multi-level lobby, the QE2 has a circular, low-ceiling space or other features that have the vibes of a tired-1960's shopping mall.

      To me it has a lot of history, but it all depends what you compare it with. It's without a doubt a work in progress with great potential. But in a superfast growing city like Dubai I think they might be going too slow. But I loved it!

    That first room was definitely not an average room back in the day. How many portholes did it have - 3? Wow; that was a big deal and the room was huge. No balcony rooms back then. Average rooms had one porthole and small.

    • @BRAMSEASTHEDAY
      @BRAMSEASTHEDAY  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it was not the most basic cabin. But even for today's suite size, pretty big!

  • @NYWaters
    @NYWaters 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Interesting tour. USB chargers in the room certainly were not original. But, the extensive Teak decks are not something you see too much of on modern cruise ships because $$$.

      I thought it was great to share yes. 😎 And a very different chat compared to my chat before that on a very different cruise, when a couple told me how they managed to smuggle weed onboard. 🙈
      Different strokes for different folks I guess 🤷‍♂️🤣

    Whats up Bram. I need some help I need to know. Can Norwegian serve alcohol in ports in Mediterranean.

    • @BRAMSEASTHEDAY
      @BRAMSEASTHEDAY  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They should. But at certain ports there have been issues in the past. NCL blames it on local authorities if this would happen. UK, Greece and Italy are problem areas. But in case they don't serve alcohol this is only while in port.

  • @bryantmoody1618
