    For a "casual" video, this was so informative to see how you worked this out. I think it will encourage others to do the same, who may have thought, because of the bit of stumbling one has to go through, that they were not cut out for it.

    The more I watch you, and my current teacher, I see experienced guitarist doing the things I thought were only for beginners. Glad that I'm not the only one humming to find notes, and clapping to find rhythm in a written piece, and plucking the wrong notes again and again when figuring out music. Its nice to know those things will go on...it reassures my process.

  • @FrosoLars

    Thank you! I stopped the video before you started your transcribing and started do it myself. I am a beginner at transcribing. I think i got it right, even after i watched you do it. Today i must have played the solo atleast 100 times, i love it.

    Year and a half into your lessons, and for the last month going back and practising all the scales, and now I know why. Because of you I do understand the scale modes and that there are three minor scales so its great to see them explored in practice I can understand. This Chan Chan seems to me a hybrid of jazz, swing and classical, but hey their just labels. I guess thats what drove Rhy Cooder to those great almost forgotten musicians in the first place. I saw Buono Vista social club on their first UK tour about twenty years ago, in a small music venue in Bristol UK, and they blew me away.

    many of our songs use exotic scales with great melodies, but what spins my head trying to analyze them specially when they have something like Am and Amaj chords and some chromatic notes that must be different scales for short time. I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

    I decided to learn the song from listening to the notes you played rather than the notes I heard from the trumpet, only because the notes you were playing were a lot clearer to my ear. I took a very casual approach however to the fingers I use to play on each of the strings/notes. I don't follow what you do exactly because I never really practised playing scales in the traditional way. Do you think this might harm me in the long run? I don't believe the fingers I use is bad technique because it doesn't cause me any kind of pain. But I feel like maybe I should re-learn this solo with your fingering just in case maybe I picked up a bad habit with my casual fingering. Thoughts?

    Hi Justin - Can I ask a question please? - The first 7 notes that you play are A,B,C#,D,E,F,G. The notes of the F Major / D minor scale (which seems to be the key of the tune) are F,G,A,A#,C,D,E. The two groups of notes don't match but yet it sounds good played together. What am I missing?

    • @lukeelliot1715
      @lukeelliot1715 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mervyn Jenkins yo E7 means "E Dominant 7", same chord structure as the E major 7 but the seventh degree is flattened. So an E major 7 is 1,3,5,7, an E7 is 1,3,5,b7
