Knot by Santiachu

Very cool level. I’ve had it on my todo list for a while and decided to beat it for AeonAir’s maymory month, and I had a really nice time playing it. The first cube was very fun, the second cube kinda carried the difficulty with the red and black orbs at 26 being a chokepoint but it was still fun, the ball was the easiest part to learn by far, and the last cube was fun but it might have been the hardest section to memorize in any level I’ve played, possibly tied with the wave in haha by wonduu. The last cube is so hard to memorize compared to the rest of the level because there are basically no visual cues and you have no idea where you are when you’re trying to learn it. The part alone took me 3k attempts to learn even with speedhacks and hitboxes, but it’s really satisfying to play by the time you learn it. I beat the level pretty quickly after starting from 0 and I really don’t think it should be at 52 on the insane demon list, but I guess it has the spot because it’s a memory level.
As for the decoration, I think it’s pretty neat but it was a little laggy so I decided to play it at 120 fps instead of 240. I really like how the level is layed-out with the repetitive structuring (not really in the ball) to make it harder to memorize. I think the way that each section sticks to one colour is pretty interesting because it makes each part feel more unique, and the colour choices are also nice. The backgrounds are really cool and stand out in each of the sections, my favourite one being the blue one in the mini cube, but I feel like the diamonds in the green background of the first cube have some really strange and jerky movement and it doesn’t sync to the music for some reason. My only other complaint is that the black diamond transition that happens before and after the blue mini cube is really cool, except it’s the only transition with a lot of effort put into it which is really odd.
Overall I’m very glad I played Knot, I think it’s a very good and creative level that more people should try, and I hope to see more from Santiachu in the future :)
