Well, as someone who generally prefers a quieter sound, I have to say that the 883 strikes a more satisfying note for me. The Nightster almost sounds like some sort of mower engine. Strange.
im not a fan of loud pipes either, i have a 1200c Sportster, the stock exhausts are not loud but sound nice when you rev it up and have a nice beat when cruising for hours ☺️
883 has more of the traditional thumping wave sound throughout the revs whereas while the nightster exhaust had a bit of a growl down low, when revved the engine itself sounded too linear, like it lost its heartbeat.
That’s the problem with the honda I mean nightster. Its expensive for what you get and you still need to add more to make it sound like a Harley when the 883 already sound damn good with the stock exhaust.
The 883 wins my ears! I will admit that the Nightster does not sound bad. They did pretty well with the note. But the extra low-end grunt on the 883 is just great.
The nightser actually sounds good. It doesn't have the potato thump, but sounds good. It sounds like what I'd expect a modern Harley to sound like. The old air cooled motors sound fantastic no doubt about it though. The nightser got it beat in about every other category though. The price is atrocious though.
So this is the future, a more expensive Harley that doesn't sound like a traditional Harley. Another example of change doesn't always mean better. Hopefully the China 500 Benelli/Harley will sound like a Harley.
The old 45 degree two valve air cooled engine is the best sounding engine. Nothing modern compares to it. However I still find the new bike to be very appealing for it’s performance and efficiency, and I think it looks pretty good too.
I like The 883 Alot better. It sounds like a Harley. The Nightster probably performs better and has more HP and runs cooler since it's watercooled. It all depends on what you want.
I actually like the sound of the new revmax “with an aftermarket pipe” it’s got the nice sporty 90° firing Interval like a Ducati. I only have one issue with the new sportster…. It’s not the Bronx
@@trippontwowheels your right. it wasn't. have 100,000 on big bore. so I had the motor stroked to a 103. new every thing from crank up. ported heads. 104 hp 104 tq. timken bearings balanced crank.
I don’t like the new sportster and I’m a die hard sportster apologist. It’s a glorified over priced vrod. I don’t like the gas tank being under the seat and it sounds like a Honda shadow. What I don’t understand is why Indian and HD make their radiators big and ugly? Honda doesn’t
the Rev-Max is another sewing machine. I don't doubt it's a great engineering success. Lacks life or distinction. Stock sporty is alright. I'll stick with my old '05 1200 Evo Sporty with Thunderheaders 2-1. The earth moves.
Trying to compare the sound of a short stroke DOHC liquid cooled motor with a long stroke pushrod operated air cooled one is foolish, they are two totally different animals. Their performance is totally different too with the 975 pumping out 90 hp @ 7500 rpm compared with the 883's 51 hp @ 6000 rpm.
Performance wise they aren't comparable because you have two different type of motors.I like the sound Alot better from the 883 and that's really all that He's asking.
Harley should be ashamed of themselves, sporster is an icon, all they really needed to do was upgrade the sportster from 1200 to 1250 or 1275 and make a case that allows for a 6speed transmission and put better suspension, instead they took an idea from a vrod turned the icon and the longest steady proven production bike and made a something that doesnt fit with the traditional system that makes a harley a harley, i have a iron and a 72 and a roadking and i love the evo sporty the best. Disapointing. But thats just how i personally feel. Especially when u can get a 107 softail standard for the same price as what the dealers are selling these for. 🤷♂️
Its two pipes vs one. Having said that, the 883 sounds better. But don't let the sound of the 975 fool you. It is a superior engine on every possible way. But, the 883 is deep inside my heart.
Difference in angle between cylinders. Same reason a Ducati sounds different from BMW, sounds different from a Triumph. The 883 has that distinct "off-beat" (galloping 1, 2....1,2....). Love the sounds of most twin cylinders but classic Harley beat always tuggs at my heart strings.
The nightster almost sounds like a parallel twin. Iron 883 has more of a V-Twin sound in my opinion. Probably sounds different in person but over my Airpods Pro at medium volume, Nightster sounds like a P-Twin🙃
My 2018 Triumph Bonneville T120 with an X pipe and slip ons sounded much closer to the 883 and its parallel twin.....it sounded nothing like that nightster after the mod. A little choked up with the stock pea shooter mufflers though. :D
I can just see the up in coming commercials. 883 cruising down the highway when all of a sudden another bike appears behind him who suddenly over takes him in a flash and slowly fades ahead of him. The 883 rider hunkers down twists his wrist only to realize his action is futile. Out of frustration he pumps a fist and screams out "Yeah well at least mine sounds better!" Then fade to black narrator speaks "Harley Davidson's new nightster. Do you want to talk a good game or have the muscle to back it up?
So far all the other companies had been trying to copy what HD had succeeded in. Now HD is destroying years of success to copy the competition. These new engines no longer even resemble to what a Harley Davidson is supposed to look and sound like. Those with years of riding on their clock know what I am talking about.
It's incredible how you can unnecessarily give up a core part of your brand image, the signature sound of a Harley. With the considerable effort of a 60 degree V2 + 30 degree crank pin offset Harley created the boring sound of a 90 degree V2 or any trivial parallel twin with crank pin offset. Wow! How can one be so dumb and not understand why people buy a Harley. Why the hell should I buy a Nightster for 15000 that sounds just as poor as a Rebel 1100 for only 10000. Harley, you will survive by building better Harleys not better Hondas! Sigh! Stick your pseudo 90 degree sport V2 in the Bronx and then try to sell me the thing, then we can talk about it, but not in a cruiser for christ's sake!
Hi ! 2022 Nighster sounds like any other modern bike. I prefer the low old school sound of the 883. Keep well !

The nightster sounds like a weed Wacker. Harley Davidson failed on this one.
@@Johnclark300 i agree 😭 should have made it a 45° Vtwin, not 60, the sound is gone 😭
883 has more of the traditional thumping wave sound throughout the revs whereas while the nightster exhaust had a bit of a growl down low, when revved the engine itself sounded too linear, like it lost its heartbeat.
The 883, no discussion. I like old school motoring.
+1
That's why We like Harley's,for the Sound, style and comfort at least on the Touring Bikes.
I would like to hear them both after an exhaust upgrade as far as stock the 883 has more of the traditional Harley sound
The 975 not sound bad, but 833 is much better sound for a old fashion chopper.
I’m sure the aftermarket will take care of sound on the nightster, but the 883 hands down is better.
Agreed. And soon if not already.
I was thinking the same thing!
That’s the problem with the honda I mean nightster. Its expensive for what you get and you still need to add more to make it sound like a Harley when the 883 already sound damn good with the stock exhaust.

It is indeed pricey. Way too rich for my blood.

Gotta stick with the classic Evo Sportster on this one

The air-cooled sounds the best at the breakout even sounds better

I absolutely prefer the sound of the 883. The nightster almost sounds like a Honda.
And the look of these two bikes - in my opinion the two best looking bikes from Harley Davidson.
How does it ride and handle is a better question.
“Surprisingly well” to both questions.
883 sounds like a Harley. Nightster doesn't. Simple as that.
My mom bought me a Harley with a sick exhaust. Now I'm a bad ass.
thanks mom
very glad I still have my 05 tc. 103.
‘05 103? Don’t you mean ‘15?
nope I don't. my bike is a ultra classic 05 with a 103tc
Wow. Didn’t think the 103 was out in ‘05. I’ve got a ‘15 103. Thought you may have pressed 0 instead of 1. 🙂

The sound of
Harley Davidson is not EPA
approved.
Lol so true
At least the iron sounds close to what a Harley sporty sounds like the nightser reminds me of anvassmatic lawn mower
883 all the way! The Nightster sounds like a Honda Rebel 500.
The iron all the way
Maybe I'm just old school but the 970 sounds like a cement mixer

Both are fine but the 883 sounds better
it was closer than I thought, but clear win for iron 883
Now let’s see how they handle, that’s where the fun is.

too easy 883= tradional Harley........975= every other metric vtwin made
Exactly
883 of course I new this before listening 45 degree single ignition spark can't be beaten in terms of sound this probably saved HD

So, in other words, they needed to make a brand new bike......I present.....The Nightster
Great idea 👍
Sportster HANDS DOWN
Agree 100%.
The iron. But I guess that's just typical of me.
And 90% of the rest of us. 🙂
The 883 wins........for me

Better get your 883 now, because this is the end of the road and used 883s are about the get pretty pricey
About to get? 🙂
@@trippontwowheels yeah right! I mean add the “they ain’t making them anymore” tax to what people already are asking 🤪
I like the 883 - deeper sound
883 for sure❤
They could have done better on the new nightster. It looks like the exhaust on the Indian super chief
I really don't like the exhaust either. Looks too bulky
The evo 883 sounds better hands down
+1
i rather prefar from far the 883 sound and the air cooled engines from harley these r legends .
Is nightster slightly bigger than the 883 in size?
I believe so, although very close in my opinion.
The nightster sounds like a Honda The 883 is music. Still the woman’s bike.
H-D finally made a bike that can compete with my Magna! 🤪
As if motorcycling were all about racing...
What a limited way of living motorcycling.
LMFAO, they sound the same too me.
+1 for the evo.
Iron is the best👍🏻🤩
883 ever
Sound it's not everything. Performance and power delivery is what matters. The sound is only secondary.
Hahahahaha the stock pipes of my Royal Enfield interceptor 650 have more growl!
ikr 😭 even a Honda NC750x sounds so much better than the Nightster 😭

They won't let you leave the showroom with stock pipes.

Vote for 883!
883 Iron for me ;-)
🤔883 👍
Hail Old School sound
The Nightster with stock exhaust sounds awful!!! The 883 Iron sounds like a Harley should sound, even stock!!
Yeah. The Iron sounds so much better.
they completely killed the lovely harley feeling at the new nightster i think....
Nice sir

883 sounds way better. Sad. I love the look of the Nightster, but I go for the sound.
883 Iron I favor
Sportster
Nightster sounds like a weed wacker with a lawn blower exhaust . I still love the sound of the evo engine air cooled motor.
When it comes to Harley, usually speaking, the older the motor, the better they sound.

sounds like any stock metric bikes now, harley is desired for it's sound, except their electric bike ofcourse
Is that another engine that Harley did NOT make?

I didn't like the Nightster sound at all. Sounds like something Joe Biden would ride the Isle of Saint Croix.🤣
yuck on the new one
Without pushrod V twin its not a harley.
The sound is one thing, but the horrendous look of that nightster pipe is terrible.
New nightster does not stand out with the traditional Harley sound ,
No thanks. They can keep the Revmax.
New bike sounds like a lawn mower and a dyson vacuum havin sex. 😂
I prefer old sound. Push rod
v twin 1200 cc
Then that’s what you need to keep buying! Ride safe.
Harley has lost their way as far as I’m concerned
Harley Davidson is intent on killing itself off.
What makes you say this?
LOL 😂
Neither
Nightster does't sound like real Harley..
