This is exactly how i feel aswell. When it comes to videos, i do them because i love the idea and the execution. Getting stuck trying to reach a certain number of views or whatever drains your energy and doesnt mean that a video is bad. Working on something you find interesting and sharing that is what is the most important and is truly what makes me happy when creating videos.

(Context: I worked in production in New York City for 13 years, I have some advice about the realities of the content creation pipeline and a couple pitfalls of entering the entertainment industry, emphasis on *industry*)
This is truly solid advice for working in the world of content creation. There are certainly people who have "the touch" for creating viral or engaging content and can call upon that power at will, but that kind of ability is forged, not born, I have found. It's a skill set that is developed by existing within the ecosystem of creating content about something.
It's important to note, too, that loving creating content about something and loving that something are very different beasts. Broadly speaking across all platforms, content creation is a communication skill, and one that requires proficiency in multiple disciplines that can create a very heavy workload if you are holding it by yourself. You absolutely need to enjoy that process as much or more than what you're making the videos about.
I came into the world of production a few years before the true rise of the social media star (It was basically Homestar Runner and the Numa Numa guy at that point) and before the "prosumer" revolution in tech. It took an ARMY to produce the projects we were working on. Now, even in the modern era, if you were to walk onto a set for a fashion shoot, even a very simple one, or a basic interview set for a news segment, there's going to be at least 5 people making the machine run, in addition to the on screen talent. Now, with professional level equipment available to everyone, and a plethora of tools to streamline the process, the actual mechanics of those jobs can be handled for you, but you now just don't have all those extra critical eyes on your product catching things and refining it into it's best reasonable form. Now all of that responsibility is held within you. For some people, that's a wonderful thing, but not for most, in my experience.
Also, there's something important about the entertainment industry that I think people should understand. This is about the relationship that exists between agencies and talent. I bring this up, because I see a lot of young people seeking out an agency to basically sculpt them into a performer and boost them. It's a sort of "plucked from obscurity" fantasy, but it's one that gives away a lot of your authority over your own career. Unless you are extremely cautious and savvy, they can totally steam roll you and end up walking away with a LOT of your earnings, they can suppress your career if you don't do things they like--it can get gnarly. I saw it happen to models all the time in my line of work.
I would suggest that you instead seek to join groups of like-minded peers that meet you on level ground, so that you all are more likely to raise each other and create a career that is more within your control. Once you have something to bring to the table when approaching agencies, you have now created a client relationship, in which you are employing the services of the agency, rather than the agency employing you. You will still have contracts that will restrict you in some ways, but you will be in position to dictate some of those terms rather than just having to accept them.
/rant. Hopefully some people find this useful! The entertainment industry is fulfilling to those that thrive there, but it is also exceedingly volatile, now, more than ever subject to fluctuation in public opinion, the algorithm, guilt by association, etc. I want to encourage people to pursue it if it is their passion, but I want them to walk into that world well armed and with eyes open.

Growing up I was told here were two ways to look at your job. 1. Work at something that makes a lot of money so you can afford to do what you enjoy in your off time. 2. Work at something you enjoy, even if it doesn't make good money. Obviously, there is a whole range in between the two things. Some people hate their job but keep doing it, so miserable that they cannot enjoy their time off. Some people are starving artists, barely surviving but happy at what they do, but every day is a struggle. If you make good money doing something you can tolerate, that might be the perfect half way point for you. I enjoy what I do enough that it's not miserable and I'm good enough at it that I make good money. Find your happy spot.

I stopped making videos for a few years to get a degree or two, but I'm back into it now, doing twitch streams etc. Someone said last night I should put videos on a youtube channel so relearning that for them. I think for a long time I looked at content creation the wrong way, but now I'm being myself and telling jokes with people it's a lot easier.
I was on Lego Masters in 2017, but the element of competition, of trying to beat other nerds at building Lego, ruined the hobby for me for a while. The same can happen with Minecraft, and when I was comparing myself to people I was at my lowest point creatively.
It's now, giving myself space to be weird, that people are noticing the streams. Rendog even raided one the other week, and I've erected a small shrine in honour of that glorious day!

I think besides luck, hard work and passion it is also the personality to become a good TH-camr. This hard to grasp / explain mixture of character, mindset and charisma that makes people to like not only your content, but you for yourself. And I am not talking about idolsation. It is hard to explain. For me, I "feel" the person - and together with respect for his skills, that's it! Best example - the Hermits and Empire people. Sadly, most TH-camrs work just for the numbers. this is honestly a very important perspective. I might be a small channel but even I have noticed that there is no guarantees in youtube. And youtube thats a long time to find the payoff. So if you really want to find success in youtube, there is no guarantee you will it. But if you want to keep trying, you need to make sure you love what you are doing and that you other things driving you to do youtube. Even if you dont find statistical success, at least you have other reasons for making videos. Like for me, I just love uploading and making videos. And when college starts, I didnt have time to make long form videos anymore, so instead I just went to making shorts now. Even if my efforts didnt get an instant payoff, my love for uploading and making videos is still a great drive for me.

something thats interesting is its easy to speak about a topic until you're actually involved in it
its all well and good to say you wouldn't get lazy, or number greedy, or jealous but it can both slowly creep up on you and hit you all at once
i have a much less tame anecdote but one i feel is still relevant, just a couple vidoes i did on tiktok got over 100k views, and then some ones i put a lot more work into got barely 200
impostor syndrome, guilt, jealousy, burnout, they are all EXTREMELY easy to fall into, and hard to get rid of
its a constant mental game, and i'm just a random person that managed to get a couple people to like my dumb jokes, i can't begin to imagine how this scales up when you get into the millions, its incomprehensible by nature
"comparison is the thief of joy" is something that i fully backed and followed, but boy was it easy to forget
you really do start creating for the fun of it, but once you put yourself out there it really changes the way you think about everything
ike i said, i had a tiny and short burst and quite frankly it was enough for me: you're your own boss, your worst critic, and the entire workforce all at once
idk where this comment was going just wanted to throw in my share, no fancy conclusion from me lmao

I have seen countless channels that made videos for years getting double digit maybe triple digit views that finally started gaining traction after like 6 years. I think most people that go into it want to see X amount of views per month or X amount of subscriber growth is just the wrong way to look a it.
You have the other method of purely doing it from a business perspective, trying to actively learn and utilize the algorithm. I was watching a guy recently who left a bigger channel to start his own, he has explained his issues with TH-cam and how unclear it all is from how apparently advertising this videos early on "killed" his growth due some how TH-cam works.
I think either way this is why Xisuma is right, without having the creative motivation to just make content it will be hard to turn it into an actual job.
I also think what you do plays a big part in it. I have seen a few channels start covering a new game and grow from there, but that raises the question how many channels tried that and didn't grow and I just didn't see them?

I had an almost small channel but I thought in the long run a job on the Internet isn’t real and it’s not consistent. Yea you can get alot of money on the net, but with a day and night you will get banned ir canceled. It’s a high risk, on the other hand real job, much less money and if you’re honest and “hustle” not by lying or deceiving the people wven thought you don’t like what you do, I think by God’s will you will get there with a clear pure and confidence that will let you sleep like a baby at night. It’s better been average preparing for the after life than being extremely successful, a billionaire or a celebrity that will end up doing drugs or getting his soul sucked out by the u know who. Alot will disagree, some say that’s a losers mentality. I think it’s not because slow and steady will get you everywhere, fast and reckless may or might not
