- Massive big pile in some section apparently called Kips Bay. Near midtown.

as a kid i would see garbage men riding around on the back of the truck and think that was the coolest job around

As someone from the midwest, if we saw a pile of garbage bags like that it wouldn't take long for them to disappear because someone will get curious and pick up those bags with their F-150 and look thru them at home. It's crazy what people throw away in the trash. I do metal scrapping as a hobby. It's crazy how much aluminum and copper I find in the garbage.
Trash picking is nasty. Why people do that is beyond me.

how many bags of diapers and cat litter do you have to go through before you find enough scrap metal to make it worthwhile? asking because i'm a garbage man and thats the bulk of the garbage i see

I guess I'm with a lot of people on this one.
I know building maintenance or landlord will have someone come and sweep up, but picking up the trash is what you do. It would not have killed them to pick up the small bag and the litter next to it and toss it in the truck.
As a pedestrian I sometimes pass an amount of trash like that and if I see a trash receptacle nearby I pick it up and toss it in and I'm not getting paid to do it.
They really should have picked that up.
Maintenance will still have someone come and swept up the sidewalk it's just the point that you are picking up the trash and it's right where the trash bags. were.
I thought the Mitsubishi was part of the pile 😂

They came by later with a shredder to take care of that garbage.

Building management sweeps the sidewalk before the truck even drives away. It’s really not a problem.
@@ct_refuse It is a problem. The truck drove away and it was still there. Just do the job correctly. It’s really not that difficult.

Looking at the way it is parked, it may be DOA....
Can you imagine parking somewhere one day, in a proper parking spot, only to find that while you were gone, somebody put 100 trash bags right next to your car, then they were taken away, but it was filmed and then people started ripping into you about how you made somebody else’s job harder, that you didn’t even know was going to happen?
The parking spot is marked out on the street. I don’t see any spot marked out for the trash? Shows you what a shit-show New York is. The city smells as bad as it looks too.

Manhattan has a lot of those massive bag pile's cause of a lot of apartment buildings where I live in Queens NY I would only see bag piles around apartment complexes or schools or programs

@@ct_refuse Eventually, but in the meantime it could sit there for hours. Makes the area look dumpy. It would’ve taken one of those guys about 5 seconds to pick up those little bags. Take pride in your work! By the way, I worked for Waste Management in South Florida for 27 years.

How do you know somebody didn’t just dump all those bags right next to where he parked a few hours ago? Don’t always assume the worst in everybody, especially people and situations you know nothing about. Life is far too short for that buddy…

I am a garbage man. This job takes a toll on your back! These guys earn every dime they get. Once they go home first thing they do is shower then they get some icy hot or bengay cream and apply it to their back. People should always remember do not over load bags. My maximum that i am permitted to pick up is 50 pound bags. Anything heavier i am told to leave it.

Those guys don't know it but they could each easily make $300 per hour doing the exact same work for themselves.

Absolutely thankless job. If you guys want to support DSNY Sanitation Workers, put a little pressure on the Mayor and City Council to remove the restriction of only being able to live in NYC, Long Island, and the surrounding counties of Westchester/Rockland/Orange/Putnam as a condition of employment.
New and somewhat seasoned Sanitation Workers cannot afford housing in the very city they work in, yet as a condition of employment, are required to live there.
They make hella good money.
