Great follow-up garden video in Dallas. I love the way he uses his “You know what I mean voice” at min 4:38 to say “Its Dallas’” As someone gardening in Dallas, I know EXACTLY what he means. 😂

Weeping yaupons did well in my Austin, TX garden. They are evergreen and have red berries in winter for the birds. Tough trees, but elegant nonetheless with a little pruning. Trees that survive TX summers provide great value.

Wow they have a pretty big yard. Didn’t realize until you saw the drone footage. Always fun to plant from scratch. My garden which I started four years ago has now filled in to a beautiful oasis. It’s very satisfying to witness hard work pay off in time.

Hi Jim and Stephany 👋 That looks great, and they accomplished a lot in just 6 weeks. Love the layout as well. Fellow Texan here but, I garden in zone 9b Gulf Coast area. I am still trying to figure out what does well here. No shade trees on our lot. Love seeing the update. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Fellow Texan here! So grateful to see this landscaping design and thoughtfulness of plant choices for our hot hot climate! Which conifer did they pick?

I wonder whether Arizona Cypress Blue Ice could do well there - such great color given all that chartreuse going on there

How about some shrubby sabal scattered under your limbed up hackberry? The tree looks so good now. You’re off to a great start.

They’ve done so well! I’ve found that the pine bark just doesn’t have the gumption to really keep moisture in and light out to prevent grass and weeds from growing through as it pleases. I’m just outside of Savannah with a similar gardening climate, and it really takes 6-8 inches of shredded mulch to even hope to slow down the grass when establishing new garden spaces. Maybe this garden will have better luck, but weeds already poking through doesn’t bode well 😢

Now would be a great time to also run drip irrigation throughout the beds. Just getting most of it covered by a 1/2" line so you can run in-line drippers to the various groupings will set the plants up for surviving the summer. There's a lot of money sunk in those plants but also consider the time you lose if a 2-3 year old plant dies and you have to start over.

Are you all still in Dallas TX? It’s not serendipity that I saw this video today. I could really use your consultation in my aging garden and landscape. 😊

That's a very good start. Stay on top of those 1st weed flushes! I'm going to be going to war with weeds on several new beds in 2025. Also, it's OK to change a few things or plants out if needed. I hope we get some pictures or updates in spring.

Dallas can be an extremely tough place to garden. If you can garden here you get an honorary degree 😂
