Exactly.. I came up with this theory based off the trailer itself. Side note. This represents the world we live in today. Truth is, Earth has been destroyed but the master magician created this illusion of the false reality we live in. Earth actually looks deserted like Silo in true reality without the veil.
Even if they implemented some mechanical system that used pulleys, rope, perhaps a windshield wiper arm, and a tube that shot liquid. You would still have to have people leave to maintain the pulley system. After all they have been here for hundreds and hundreds of years. The same dirt, dust, weather, and debris that affects the camera lens would affect the pulley system.
What I understood from the end of the first season was that Martha Walker, Juliette's little lady friend from the depths, was already suspicious that the Silo sent people outside to die. And the reason for that is that they used a low-quality tape to reinforce the clothes coming out of the Silo and with that the air outside, which is really toxic, would enter through gaps in the clothes and kill people. Not to mention the clothing display that is manipulated and induces the person to think that the environment is not ruined and contaminated. So Martha manages to switch the ribbons and Juliette survives because her suit is safe. This proves to Martha what she already suspected. And what she does with that information in season two could trigger a confrontation between society and Bernard.

He takes of the helmet because he Sees an seemingly intakt world. And ideed it is except the rogue AI's nanobots that kill everything. The suites are not protecting against the nanites. You need a antinanite suit to survive.
Has the show gotten to the point where the goblins start coming up from the water in the bottom of the silo to feed? That was a twist I didn’t expect. I never would have guessed that those poor people were nothing more than a renewable food resource to keep those monsters satisfied and out of the way.
The show mirrors Ascension in which families were sent in a huge space craft to Proxima Centauri. This would take generations. But in reality they had not left Earth.

my base theory is that they put the vr in the suits because they want u to venture out, they want u to think it's fine and maybe like try and take off ur helmet, that way the people inside the bunker can tell whether it's clean outside, like they see how far each cleaner makes it before they die
Exactly. The bird was such an obvious thing when you watch the episodes, and ita probably into tonal so the audience notice it too. But I was waiting for him to explain his theory after than other than it's a very, and it took 80% of the video just describing what happened before he event get to spotting the bird. Quite annoying really, not only is he repeating a lot of things that arent even details you might not notice, hes saying it was too slowly.

So this is my theory after getting 3 episodes in. The world is perfectly safe above ground. Theres no VR in the helmets but rather on the screens inside because in episode 3 the lights flicker when working on the generator and quickly exposes the lush green of the outside when the VR fails. The reason they die is because theyre not just breathing in air in those suits but also poison gas or nanobots (depending on how technologically advanced these people are im still new to the show). Im also guessing that the revolution that they had was not a revolution at all but the more humane and rational leaders determined it was safe to go above ground and someone opposed it by proposing that they keep everyone inside to preserve their power and influence in a society that they can control without question and no one can defect without dying and the people who wanted to open the Silo decided that was the wrong way to go about it and then a civil war (not a rebellion) broke out and the good guys lost and the tyrants got their way and developed a system to keep people believing the outside is still hazardous.
Had to watch this on 2x speed because it feels like the channel deliberately slows down the playback speed to a crawl almost like he's narrating drunk to extend the video length.
