This is my first bike. No regrets. Anti wheelie also saved me one time.
For real. I kept my sv650 for 5 years and probably enjoyed it more towards the end being a better rider. Only sold it because a friend was looking for a first bike. Still see it parked next to my 1290 at work all the time :')
I think there are 2 kinds of "beginner" motorcycle riders:
1. Has never EVER ridden a motorcycle.
2. Grew up as a kid riding minibikes and dirt bikes....but has yet to ride a full size motorcycle on the street. (me 15 yrs ago)
Yeah but there is one must for her. Save up 1k and get the Austin Racing GP1R! Your Neighbors will hate it but I promise you you won’t get enough of it.

new rider, just picked one up, 100% agree, kept it in rain mode, 20 miles in, so glad I went for it. this guys advice is spot on.....
The same here road in raid mode then switch to street. This bike has so many aids it is easily manageable
I'm thinking about buying this one for my first bike, is it too strong? Can i survive with it? 😅

KTM is a good bike to start. Unfortunately this is not affordable in Brazil

I’m just about ready to put out my “reveal” Vid on this bike. It’s a fantastic, fun, light and easy to maneuver bike. I do find the throttle a little choppy in first gear, which could be unsettling for a beginner rider. I’ve been riding for almost 5 years and I love it.
Yeah I would agree with your comments there .... they are easy to ride and a lot of fun too .... but then if ya stick them in track mode, track throttle response, abs in supermoto, and turn off the safety nets they show their aggressive side 😁

My brother's first motorcycle is a modified 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 with a full racing Akrapovic carbon exhaust and header system. It also has a DNA Air Filter, and a Race ECU Flash Tune. His only riding experience was his first Yamaha YZ80 at age 13. His second at age 15 was a Suzuki RM125 & his 3rd at age 20 that he still has today at age 39 is his Yamaha YZ250 dirtbike. He took the motorcycle course, got his license and bought this bike over a year ago. He put over 10k miles on it and never crashed, and he never dropped it either! People online were mad at him like they were his parents for buying a bike like this as his first saying he was going to wreck and probably kill himself lol.
He loves the bike and rides it almost every day. He rips around up in the North GA Blueridge Mountains. His FZ-09 flies!
Use to ride and race dirt bikes, so I’m not new to being on two wheels at ALLLL. I was looking at getting a 390 duke then saw the 790 duke at a local dealership for 7.5k brand new. Started Looking through some channels before I got to yours, lots of you tubers saying “you shouldn’t get anything over 500cc for your first bike” and then I come across your channel and now I really really want this bike.
As long as you have good awareness and throttle control and know how to counter steer etc. you’ll be fine it’s not like riding dirt bikes that’s for sure but the change is easy.

Interesting to see how different countries view beginner bikes, where I come from, people say 125cc is the best beginner bike, and no beginner should ever get close to a KTM, and for most people here, 400 to 500 cc is the highest displacement they will ever get. The most popular displacement here is 250 and 300cc, While in the Americas, KTM 790 is regarded as a good beginner bike 😂

This video is exactly what i needed to hear, i am too afraid to go from my 125 enduro to 790 duke, i think it is too performance-y.
But i have an option to buy used 790 for only 7000eur, which seems like a bargain compared to mt07,sv and other more beginner oriented bikes...

Go for 790....nothing like a good deal....watch yammie noob's beginner bike tier list....video...will help you to make a better decision.
Folks, listen to the people that tell you that a little more bike, that you have to learn and respect, is a better investment. I've literally only been riding for a few months and I'm absolutely ready to trade in my beginner 300 for something more. You hit the limit pretty fast. Faster than you would think.
Couldn't agree more. Had mine since May last year. Still not brave enough to pop those wheelies haha. Assuming you need to stick it in track mode and turn anti wheelie off? Keep it on sport throttle ? Tracks really twitchy
I want to hold a wheelie on a bicycle before I try on a motorcycle.
Things are different these days, when I started there really wasn't any such thing as a beginner bike, everyone bought the biggest used machine they could afford, I went from my yamaha FS1E to a used 1990 kawasaki zx10 the day I passed my full test, I payed £700 for it and it was stupid fast for its day, I never heard of beginner bikes until recently.
My first bike was a Huffy, I went to a Turbo Haybusa, if you can afford paying the Insurance Premium, go for it !!! :D beginner riders are so emotional with bikes :D most of them forget the insurance will cost more than a car :D I still advise go small until you can afford it, it is really easy to trade up :D

@@christiaanpretorius306 over a year of having it, still alive, but man I did not ride it near as much this year as I did last year, sadly she collected a lot of dust this year.

@@christiaanpretorius306 i got a company vehicle for work this year, so couldn’t ride to work anymore, and I move out of the city to a rural area and don’t enjoy the bike as much on straight open highways. I LOVED the bike when I still lived in the city and could ride it everyday to work
@@DimitriZarate902 Im on the lookout for a bike next year when i turn 18. Still deciding between ktm 790 and husqvarna 701 svartpilen. It seems like alot of power but i have years of experience on a downhill mountain bike. I know i have great control on 2 wheels but a motorbike is just something you should never underestimate. Did you struggle with the power at first?
I started on a 890 GP, best decision ever.

Had my 390 for a year now, still love it for commuting, its a weapon through traffic. Thinking of the 790 but wary of reliability issues when I only have 1 bike to use all year round.
Had mine for 5 days before a lady pulled out in front of me sending me over her roof, prior to that didn't work 2 first days cause of bad battery. awesome bike the 3 days I got to ride it !
Im considering one of these but I am nervous about KTM's track record with maintenance and issues.
Now i want one! Is was looking for the mt07. But this bike looks way more fun to me
Yamaha Mt07 and Honda CB650R will be WAYYYYYY more reliable!

@@shahzebnasir4692 yeah if you can even find one near you. I live in a major metro area and it's impossible to get any of the naked yamaha bikes other than the 300 class.
Hell yeah you can. After all, it wheelies better than the Duc Street fighter V4🤣
theoretically even though this bike is light and has great safety features that bikes yrs ago didn't have id still think its better for someone to hop on a 300 or older 400cc bike. u will learn how to corner better with a smaller bike.
Isn't the 790 also fairly small and only around 400lbs wet too?
@loser2239 yeah, it is. Its got a little too much low end grunt for a novice imo. I started out on a cbr600f4i but im a 250 lb guy and honestly, i still wish i started on a little 400 or 500cc bike. I think my skills would have progressed that much quicker.

i got my first bike at the age of 38.. a brand new duke 790, never regret that... except when the 890 came along.. the duke 790 is much lighter and stronger. Twisty roads is like a dream and driving on the highway with the quickshifter up and down is vigorating. Even the stock exhaust sounds like.. the bike is begging you to go nuts, and the electronic is some of the best.
But take both motorcycles for a ride then decide, im guessing ktm will be your choice.
oh, i forgot, drive in the first 1000 km i did in rain mode (70hp) and forgot the setting until a few months after first service. Going to sport was like getting a new bike twice! :)

Yes, I spent the day today comparing features and capability between just about every new bike that makes between 75-115hp and for the money between purchase price and insurance cost, the Duke 790 is the answer

Why? This has so much more to offer. Specially when you get more experienced with the anti wheelie,blipper,modes,easy going you can change it to your style :) I would say you should start on a 1290 duke R as your first bike it’s the greatest first bike ever and has no power 😀.......

@@headlesshorseman2165 I passed my highway test on a 390. The bike was perfect but I think it maxed out around 120kph. It was raining so I didn't want to hold the throttle open for too long but im pretty sure I maxed it out. A car was hanging around beside me on the highway, i wish i could have zoomed away. i felt uncomfortable for a few minutes.
Not if you're a tall person. I'm 6'3" and can't fit comfortably on any "starter" bikes except for the BMW G310GS.
