- Enjoy the sweet song of the western meadowlark doing territory calls with another meadowlark nearby. I was so delighted to be able to capture this meadowlark singing on a cold morning in early May. I hope it brings a smile to your heart as it did to mine. The song of meadowlarks is just wonderful.
Special thanks to our background vocalists:
-Western meadowlark
-Canada goose
-Red-winged blackbird
-Common grackle
-Mourning dove
-Black-tailed prairie dog

One of my favorite birds. When I was young, I would hear them all the time. Their habitat is gone now so I never hear their sweet song anymore. All houses, no meadows or fields.
That is impressive. That drop in pitch closes the song beautifully
"Like to sing cheerily!" What a sweet song; I wish we had them in my area.
What a great mnemonic! I’m writing it down to use and remember!
Such beauty.
Thank you. 75-80 years ago, I used to hear them and killdeers often. Bob White quails too. Not now.
There were Canada geese, ducks of several kinds, and rose breasted grosbeaks on Michigan’s Au Sable River last week! And a couple of loons too!
