JpJ is exploding everything here! A monster! One of the best bass line ever! And, the sound of the Fender bass, is incredible.... The rest of the song, they stole everything from the JIMI HENDRIX'S VERSION, of KILLING FLOOR.....
As a bass player myself, I fully agree. I put headphones on with my bass and music playing through for hours to Zeppelin and this song. One of my absolute favorites.
My favorite Led Zeppelin song is usually the last one I listened too. Definitely check out these great originals too and you can see how Zeppelin often turned them on their heads.
"Do you hear that bass?" - Man, I've been hearing that bass for decades and I'm still amazed every time I hear it, so welcome to the club! 😊"What Is and What Should Never Be," is another great choice.
This is the bass line that has been stuck in my head since I first got my LZ 1&2, in 1969/1970. It is the funkiest, most sophisticated I have ever heard. I love JPJ, and it seems he deserves more attention than he gets.
Congradulations!! You are on your way to becoming a full fledged Led Head. When I'm asked "what's your favorite Zeppelin tune?" I always say I don't have one, because my favorite Led Zeppelin tune is always whatever Led Zeppelin song that happens to be playing at that time. Great reactions btw.
Every member of zep are still widely thought of as the best ever musicians by themselves still to this day. Also: that chord at the end of that guitar rif is really crazy. Every Zep top 5 has like 39 songs on it, btw.
I’m glad you’re getting into the more, raw blues Zep songs instead of just the rock hits. You Shook Me is my #2, but what about Levee? And How Many More Times? And I Can’t Quit You Babe? This is heavy blues as interpreted by hugely talented, British fans - Led Zeppelin. Have you ever heard anything like this before? How about after? I haven’t. People sometimes name some bands who sound a bit like Zeppelin, but nobody has ever done better blues/rock interpretations. The sound is totally unique. Some may copy, but nobody is close to doing what they did creatively. None of this would be possible without original blues music, so I gotta give credit where it’s due. But man, these guys were magic.
People getting cut up because their favourite guitarist/vocalist/drummer/bass player is better in their eyes and then coming on other artists posts to hate or call them out makes me 😂😂😂😂😂 every time. Clearly they have trouble accepting others gifts and just moving on. Led Zeppelin will forever be controversial. At least they are still talking about them 😅😉
@@nathanisrael894 I didn't want to sound like I was exaggerating. I don't think most people would believe that they go 50 plus songs deep of S-tier music.
The way The Lemon Song finishes and then transitions into Heartbreaker on the studio album might be as good as the songs themselves. They really have to be listened to together. Your investment in The Lemon Song has to include another investment in listening to Heartbreaker. It's almost like lLiving Loving Maid and Heartbreaker having to be played at the same time as well. Funny though that Zeppelin never played Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid back to back live because Page didn't like Living Loving Maid.
You had to live in the 70s to understand the ideas about copyright at that time. It was completely different than today. Everyone was playing someone else's songs and it didn't bother anyone. It was the success of Led Zeppelin that brought the problem to the fore. Many people wanted to be a part of it and the plagiarism lawsuits started like that. Back then, everyone was happy to have someone else play their song. Moreover in the case of Led Zeppelin, the added value is high.
This music was just what we all listened to as kids and teens in the early 70s. No drugs just music on vinyl on stereo players. Your reaction is so funny. Love it. I'm so lucky to have been born in 1957.
You can't pick a Led Zeppelin favorite until you're heard SO MUCH MORE. Physical Graffiti is packed with bests!! ~ KASHMIR, Custard Pie, Trampled Under Foot, Houses of The Holy, Ten Years Gone, The Rover..... Do yourself a favor!!!
Arguably the FILTHIEST bass line in any rock song ever. JPJ was absolutely killing it. I didn't like the breakdown either at first, but it has grown on me. It's the breakdown at the end coming off the fast pace happiness that sets up the hard, cold final verse. This is why Led Zeppelin are the GOAT.
Rest/Sleep is important. "Squeezing your lemon" originally meant "peeing" (since a yellow liquid), though Plant made the meaning sexual. The "Top" Zep songs should include "Kashmir" with it's great drums and vocals (you should react to it). "Top 5" Zep is tough, it's easier to do the "Top 10" Zep songs. One of my top Zep songs is "When the Levee Breaks", which you did react to. A less appreciated great is "The Battle of Evermore", though no drums, it's a haunting song.
My mom and I love Zeppelin, many good memories. She died because she got no rest (and the hospital butchered her when she got Covid, forget about rest in the hospital no matter how sick you are and no matter how much rest you need, especially when you are sick), get your rest people!
Listen to Rory Gallagher ... Irish guitarist. The best and so unappreciated. A precious humble musician who lived to play his guitar. Try first Shadowplay 1979 live. It is his encore to a concert. His band was him guitar, his bass player and his drummer.
Check out Your Time Is Gonna Come from their debut album. That John Paul Jones intro rules. Also highly recommended is Ten Years Gone from Physical Graffiti and the rousing The Song Remains the Same from Houses of the Holy, which shows Zep tackle the realms of art rock as if it were second nature. Terrific reaction.
Actually checkout Howlin’ Wolf’s Killing Floor. Wolf did his own version and later in life recorded another version in the UK/England . This is where Led Zepplin gets the “Lemon Song”. Jimi Hendrix also covers Howlin’ Wolf’s Killing Floor and gives Wolf proper credit.
You will change your top 5 over & over again. For me Kashmir has been my #1 since it came out in 1975 & the rest of their catalog is #2 😊Keep going with Zeppelin greatest band to grace the stage!!!
Don't know if you've ever heard of this guy but he is credited by a lot of the earlier rock people with influencing them with his music and playing. Hard to believe that he is an early traveling evangelist though. His name is brother Claude Eli. There is an album with his stuff on it and if you listen you can hear the guitar he plays and it's in a lot of the early rock too.
credit... thats the way it was done back then. everybody used everybody else's stuff, zeppelin changed that. there are a few songs written and performed way back when that a half dozen bands "covered" and was never a hit. zeppelin took it changed the lyrics, speed it up, cranked up the volume and made it a hit. then they were sued because of it while none of the other bands that covered it note for note were sued. it was all about money
Mad respect for JPJ. Prolly the best musician ever. Motherfucker can play any instrument. Banjo. Mandolin. Bass. Washtub bass. He crashed bulegrass festivals in the Appalachians to this day
Actually there is one song that is really awful. That is the Crunge. It is the only Zeppelin song I cannot bear to listen to. All of their other songs are perfection. I guess even the gods are capable of having a bad day.
The band mates, in their live interviews, always credited the great blues masters. You will find most songs barely resemble the original. Zeppelins music speaks for itself.
Perspective on "Rock History", the "Four Greatest Rock Bands" are usually listed The Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin. Besides early rock Elvis, of the "Big 4" you only covered Zeppelin. For Stones, do live early-70's videos when they were considered the "Worlds Greatest". Try "Midnight Rambler" from Marquee Club 1971. For The Who, try album tracks "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "The Real Me". For Beatles, try "Day In The Life", "I Am The Walrus", or "Dear Prudence".
My top five changes regularly... And I know every single song on every single album! Keep listening and you'll see what I mean! I'd suggest Misty Mountain Hop and The Rover
Yeap!!!! John Paul John really show up very strong in this song…everyone on this band is something else…Bozo gone but before he let a good seed in Jason… and 2007 they give a present to Bozo…and to all….👏 👏👏👏👏🙏
I saw them with by friend kenny kane in 1975 at the garden in ny. Loud . Could not hear for two days. They played for 4 hours. No damn warm up band. Just zep.
If you are going to make a Led Zeppelin top 5 use a pencil with an eraser, cause it’s going to change every time you hear the next one. Or do a top 5 with 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d. Oh and think about it, the juice running down my leg is related to “I’m going to leave all my children down on this killing floor!” Lol
Y ese es Led Zeppelin !! Así larga vida a esta magnífica banda Mi banda favorita hasta el final de kos tiempos . Genios cada uno Los Amo . 🤟😎🖤🎸🎵🎶✨🎼🎶❣️🎤🔥
I see that you are a natural, and hope you take up an instrument! also, you have a great ear! right on pitch! If you love scatting, listen to the great Ella Fitzgerald too! I agree with you; Zep is THE best hard/psychadelic rock band of all time. I was 11 years old when these guys descended from heaven to make us happy!! I remember laying on the floor of my parents' kitchen floor listening to Zep together on the phone!! I am so happy that young people are listening to my music, so to speak. I've had a crush on every member of this band over time! Enjoy!
Here's the thing about Zeppelin, they were in large part a blues cover band. 75% of their songs were writen by someone else. Even Stairway was a 400 year old English folk song at its roots. Another thing about Zeppelin, they always did a better version every time. Another thing about Zeppelin, they didnt really know they were stealing songs. Led Zeppelin was formed to meet the legal obligations of the Yarbirds and were origanlly called the New Yarbirds. As such, they owned the rights to the Yarbirds catalogue. Most of the songs on the first two albums are Yarbird songs they redid to give their own spin to them. Page wasnt an original member so wasnt sure of the source of much of the material, which had been legally stolen by Kieth Rolfe and Eric Clapton.
You need a top six, put Levee in there!😉ok, maybe top 100! Too hard to pick just a few. The bass is what you boogie with. John Entwhistle, the bass player from the Who was great, too.
re the crediting, it was normal practise back then yeh its wrong and they correctewd most of it. zeppelin get hammered for it simply because they were the biggest band doing it
You want to hear and see some base, watch the live version of Freebird, by Lynyrd Skynyrd, at the Oakland Stadium. When they jam towards the end, you will be amazed. But yes, John Paul Jones is great, and definitely neglected.
The bass line in this song is utterly amazing. JPJ drives this song with the bass.
JpJ is exploding everything here! A monster! One of the best bass line ever! And, the sound of the Fender bass, is incredible.... The rest of the song, they stole everything from the JIMI HENDRIX'S VERSION, of KILLING FLOOR.....

My favorite Led Zeppelin song is usually the last one I listened too. Definitely check out these great originals too and you can see how Zeppelin often turned them on their heads.
He is realizing how good Zeppelin is.
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is a masterpiece. "The Rain Song" some of the sexiest vocals in rock
"Do you hear that bass?" - Man, I've been hearing that bass for decades and I'm still amazed every time I hear it, so welcome to the club! 😊"What Is and What Should Never Be," is another great choice.
The fact that your loving Zep now ,is so damn awesome to watch you
Every Zeppelin song is worthy of being a top 5 song. That’s why they are my favorite band ever, just wish I had seen them in concert.
This is the bass line that has been stuck in my head since I first got my LZ 1&2, in 1969/1970. It is the funkiest, most sophisticated I have ever heard. I love JPJ, and it seems he deserves more attention than he gets.
Ramble On might be the best bass performance I've ever heard by Zeppelin.
You are so awesome dude.
Eversince I saw them in 77, I still feel about them the way you do right now
Congradulations!! You are on your way to becoming a full fledged Led Head. When I'm asked "what's your favorite Zeppelin tune?" I always say I don't have one, because my favorite Led Zeppelin tune is always whatever Led Zeppelin song that happens to be playing at that time. Great reactions btw.
When you turned your back, I laughed, and laughed, and laughed! BEST reaction...get outta here!! Beautiful!
Go deeper man…In my time of dying, long black wavy hair, Custard Pie, Good times Bad times, so many to love! Love the Lemon Song!
jonesy KILLS it on this track, hes such a subtle monster
Every member of zep are still widely thought of as the best ever musicians by themselves still to this day. Also: that chord at the end of that guitar rif is really crazy. Every Zep top 5 has like 39 songs on it, btw.
JPJ absolutely kills it on this track. My favorite by far

On since I been loving you, JPJ plays the keyboards and bass with his feet at the same time...

John Paul Jones tears up the bass on this song.
Top 5, good luck with that. Zeppelin has 30 songs in their top 5.
Nah I’m a super fan this song is top 5 for sure
At least 30
@@nathanisrael894 I didn't want to sound like I was exaggerating. I don't think most people would believe that they go 50 plus songs deep of S-tier music.
Actually Robert Johnson Delta Blues artist sang "Squeeze my lemons" 1934 . This whole album has incredible bass lines
Even Johnson got it from somebody else. Arthur McKay I think.
Only the lyrics resemble his version. 😎
when life gives you lemons...
You gonna love the filthy riff on ‘Heartbreaker” ✌️

JPJ has a great bass line in What is and What Should Never Be! Give it a listen!
One take Jonesy I can listen to this song just isolating the bass. Kudos to JP for the production.
You finally got to this one!
Oh damn man I'm dyin' laughing. Subbed! You had an eargasm didn't you?
Leaving his children on "this killing floor" after having his lemon squeezed.....means literally what it says.
They have so many great songs... hard to list!!!

I would say this is in my top 5 Zeppelin songs, I love the slow down part and the whole 'jam' feel of the song.
This music was just what we all listened to as kids and teens in the early 70s. No drugs just music on vinyl on stereo players.
Your reaction is so funny. Love it. I'm so lucky to have been born in 1957.
Everything they did was magnificent!!
This song is chock full of guitar goodness too. A lot of guitar techniques demonstrated in this one.
This song is the reason why I started playing guitar and bass about fifty years ago....... Zeppelin rules.

Absolutely my fav Zep song. Bada$$ nasty bass and drum groove. Plants vocals on point. Raw! But so many close seconds.
Also Achillies last stand, Omg
He is doin' Howlin Wolf here .Wolf started using the killin' floor term because he worked in a slaughter house
They are all epic ‘top five’ caliber. So unique and beyond anything else I’ve ever heard.
