    Great Video for beginer like me. Actually I am professional teacher in school for Robotics lesson. Now I am old enough ( 74 ) and step into plantations. My first plantions are Fruits and vegetables such as Banana Cabbage and Chillie. I have zero knowledge of my time passing job. Viewing in TH-cam videos mostly from Philippines expart and farmers uploaded. Especially Banana platations so now I do well with my small farm. Fortunately because of my success story my friend from our church council gave me her Cacao farm newly planted but not yet complete. Actually their family main business was rice mills and many others so no man power to take care of Cacao farm. That's why I can get it. As per this video teaching me, I am dare to take responsibility to get green and having good quality fruits.
    Thank you so much for original uploader for this Cacao lesson. I am sure will come with my questions or query for my new farm.
    Advance wishing you all "" Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2021 "". May God Bless all of you. This is Harry from Chiang Rai - Thailand.

    Hi. Thanks for the great video. Does papaya tree grow well with cacao tree?

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As an intercrop strategy i think that’s ok in the beginning however once the cacao trees grow the canopy would cover the papaya trees.
      We did banana intercropping early on and now our banana production is now limited to the perimeter of our farm

  • @stanislaussalouck6865

    Interesting, how can I know or select good seed from a pot of cacao

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good seeds for planting you need to start with cacao variety with big seeds as your root stock. Then you let it grow and select those seedlings that grew poorly and take them out of the lot (this process is called culling) , leaving only the best growing seedlings to be planted on your farm.
      Usually people don’t want to waste the seedlings they planted that’s why they want to plant all of it in the farm (even the bad ones) so they end up with poor growing trees

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure about this question. I heard that it is not advisable because there will be water buildup eventually during rainy season and will not go well for your cacao and banana. Unless you dump a lot soil on it but that might be expensive to do.

    • @cacaocultureph

      Do you mean intercrop in an already existing rubber plantation? I think the tall rubber trees and planting distance in a rubber plantation is not necessarily conducive condition for Cacao Trees to prosper.

    Pwede po mag tanim sa mejo uphill na lugar at may mga niyog na matatayog na

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We mentioned this in a different video.
      The answer is yes pwede mag tanim sa slope but it will be difficult pag harvest time po. Mahirapan po yung tao sa pag harvest.
      Medyo costly but if pipilitin mag tanim sa slope i suggest parang rice terraces style to prevent erosion and easier farm management

    Great info. Question, why you put plastic bags around the cacao pods?

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Common practice around here is put plastic covering to protect the Cacao Pods from pod borers (pest). It is one practice that is not eco-friendly and personally we are looking at possible working alternatives for our farm.

    • @joelgaggstatter4543
      @joelgaggstatter4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cacao Culture oh okay! Here at Costs Rica we have a fungus (Monilia) that kills a lot of cacao, is that the same pest over there? You can try with a bio degradable plastic to be more eco friendly.

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joel Gaggstatter it not the same. Pod borers are insect that goes into the cacao pod fruit and lays its eggs inside destroying the fruit and multiplies and infest the farm😭

      Hi Aureliano, thank you for watching our video and commenting and asking us questions.
      For this question. We started out as a cacao seedling nursery operator in 2016. We sold it to other farmers as well as used our own seedlings sa farm. We stopped our seedlings operations in 2019 to focus on the farm and our products.

    • @cacaocultureph
      @cacaocultureph  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thank you for watching our videos. We personally refrain from sharing detailed numbers because we know that not all factors will be the same for everyone. We might do a video on our own breakdown but i'll have to dig on our records from 2017.
      But I am fairly certain that a good guide/estimate of cost would be 300-500 pesos per tree for initial startup cost. (1 hectare 1,100 trees). I hope that this answer has helped you. Good luck on your cacao journey.
