Will This COBBLED Together DUALLY Drive 1200 Miles Home?!

- I bought this 1978 GMC one-ton dually pickup while in Wyoming visiting family. We fully restore it in my cousin's cow pasture, fix a few mechanical issues, and then hit the road home 1,200 miles to Kansas City!

From a squarebody hit by a kenworth to a squarebody with a kenworth badge.
Lol, the coicindence!
Was it a kentworth or a Volvo lol
@@Merc306. a Kenworth
Mad irony
A squarebody that identifies as a Kenworth
Around here, we call the original paint scheme on that pickup “ junkyard camouflage “.
I call it Montanaflage
Random earth tones
Jess is a real one... the day after getting a tooth pulled and just jumps in and drives 1200 miles. You have a keeper there Dalton !
No offense to you or her but that really isn't anything special.
@@brandonsstaples919 it is the redneck way, haha
@@brandonsstaples919 Terrific, looking forward to your video documenting that!
Pain killers give u wings😂
@@brandonsstaples919Free speech is great, ain't it?...
...just like saying "try it sometime"... XD
Love how the LTD has become the comfortable reliable backup vehicle. Looks great too.
It's nice seeing that creampuff of an LTD finally getting to live. Hell, it's probably done more then most mall crawlers will do already.
$1/month giving more entertainment value than my Netflix ever did, keep up the good work Dalton! And don’t lose the shop!
SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!
Amen to that!!! Add all of my subscriptions up 🤬
Dude you have become my favorite TH-camr..
I just love the shit that you do.
Perfectly said 👍
It's going to use oil at the rpm you're running!
Dalton, I don't know if you remember me commenting a long time ago when you had 30k subscribers. I said "this guy deserves more subscribers, and let's get him to 100k". Now you're kicking ass and taking names and still my favorite channel. Keep it up man. You and your crew are killing it.
You struck gold with Jess there, Dalton. She's smart, she has a great attitude, she's adorable, she's a good sport, she's funny as hell - you guys are two peas in a pod.
Absolutely. I have only ever met one other couple who seemed like they were more made for each other, and my buddy's wife was killed in an accident on her motorcycle. She was a cop and her funeral was so sad that it's impossible to explain.
@@BucksSuperStereoWorld- when your time is up, it’s up. There is no rhyme nor reason to dying. But I’d stay off a motorcycle myself
True but also, calm down.
Agreed!!
Man, JD is going to have some good stories to tell his friends when he goes back to school
Dalton is supplying JD with a lifetime of great stories.
It may be an outside spray can repaint, but damn does it look good from a distance! Also, that LTD is a damn good car! I'm glad yall made it home safe. Awesome video.
Qwik tip truck 4 speed use 2nd for starts ist is granny lo for weight😊😊
smart to paint the white, easy to color match and hides imperfections better
You can't find a rotted out square body in my area for $3500. You got a great deal.
In my area (western Washington state), they keep showing up at the scrapyard where I sell scrap metal! Once there, they're doomed.
Yeah up here in Maine, they'd be asking AT LEAST 10k for a square body stick shift that solid.
@@JeffKopis Guessing the one that took on a Kenworth is more viable for a rebuild then the ones there.
We have been totally spoiled since you went all in with the channel...and I'm loving every minute of it!
My Real Steel Saves Lives shirt arrived yesterday and boy is it a comfy T-shirt 👕
So did mine.
What I really enjoy about your channel is you use your classic cars and trucks as daily drivers. They are not just classic vehicles, thay are practical cars and trucks so put them to work and enjoy them.
There was a time when my wife's truck was leaking oil, I found the leak where the filter adapter plate bolts to the block. I was using a gallon a week. I just kept adding oil until the leak was clean oil and no longer black. Then I fixed the leak. I flushed my entire engine out through many cities lol. Now that's a PBG move right there!!!
Man, Jess is cool. Had a wisdom tooth pulled and the next day she's driving across country. Plus, she's always down for all these old car shenanigans. She's a keeper.
Right? Its a miracle she didnt bleed out from the exertion! Joking obviously but shes good for Dalton, he needed a woman in his life.
The gigantor oil filter was used in 2 1/2 ton trucks with small or big blocks from the factory and I've used them as long as they fit with headers more oil can go through the filter instead of the bypass
That ol Squarebody is pretty sweet!!! Quick and dirty paint job actually looks pretty good.
Jess laughing at Dix and then immediately said nothing when JD questioned her 😂 he only has a couple more years of Innocence ahead of him LOL
I painted a 1967 Chevy truck and a 1971 Ford truck with rattle cans and after rubbing them out they looked awesome. 20 years later the paint is still on them! Love our videos!
That AC Delco oil filter is a great oil 🛢 filter! I used it on my 1972 SS454 Elcamino all the time. Believe it or not, along with using Amzoil, I have 403,000 miles on that big block!
Love being a member of the low buck club! Thanks for the videos! 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Yeah and that filter is for a 350 but its actually intended for the marine motors, not the road versions
@@TH-camAIbotNot correct at all. That is a 2-ton truck filter. They came on C60-C70 chassis stuff like school buses, tow trucks, etc. Yes 71 passenger buses commonly had 350s in them.
I actually use that oil filter on my 57 Chevy. It’s not that much more than a regular filter, adds an extra qt of capacity and probably a little extra cooling as it sits more into the air flow.
We had a 73 GMC pickup, loved the truck. No power anything. Gas mileage 8 mpg. Nice find
I can honestly say that I’m glad I’m not the only one who would do a rattle can paint job on something before I had to drive it that far. I can’t wait to see the Scout video!
Watching you rattle can that old truck made me smile.😊😊😊😊
Thanks Dalton for another cross country vid. That's truly a great truck. No exhaust leaks, then after the paint, hell yea !!!
Cool find! Hugs to Jess! So sorry she suffered a dental emergency while on this special trip! I’m sure she was miserable despite her being positively lovely as always ❤
Man, this brings back memories. My dad took me to pick up a 1974 f100 4x4 from my uncle in East Helena, Montana when I was about 6. When I was 15 he took me to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pickup a 1968 F100 2wd with a 390. We lived near the beach in Washington state at those times and I'll never forget those trips. About 4 years ago we made the opposite trip from Wyoming to Washington to pick up a 1973 f250 highboy with a 390 swap I picked up for 900 bucks. Drove it all the way back without a single issue. Those are my favorite trips.
Pole barn, Puddin and Mortske all doing dually videos this week!
Thats right lol. I wonder how much Mortske spent on gas driving home from Ok pulling a trailer and car and doing up to 93mph in areas? (police pulled him over for going 93 pulling a trailer and let him off with a warning)
I just thought the same thing and love those three channels too! Don't forget Sleeperdude too. All amazing channels for sure!
These long road trips are great!
I am in NH. 64 years old. I come in from doing cab corners on my 1986 four door dually four wheel dually K-30. It is hot for NH. today. What do I do is turn on the squawk box and there you are doing a Dually. Bingo My 86 is my daily driver with a HT383 bolted to a 400 turbo and a transfer case. Danna 60 leaf springs in the front and Danna 70 drums in the rear. Gw. 7700 lbs. You know what I mean when I say you got a truck. The thing is you don’t have any self-tappers in it yet.
Jess is awesome. Guts, brains and that truck is a diamond in the rough!
This was a pretty sweet find, paint turned out pretty damn good too. Probably the nicest truck in the PBG fleet now, can’t wait to see more of it!
I agree from way over here in Marion County Arkansas that fresh blue and white finish looks Premo...
Now all it needs is some Red pinstripe added to turn that '78 into a true Red, White and Blue Iconic American Pick'um Up Truck.🇺🇲
That is cool you did a will it drive 110 miles, burger review, and restoration all on vacation. You are great JD will remember all the adventures and getting it done whatever it takes. He is really learning a lot and will pick up your old car addiction and enjoy it all his life. Cool dad
My cousin Dean owns the largest taxidermy shop in America in Cody Wyoming. I built him a hot rod Challenger back in the 80's.
That old beast looks pretty good with the rattle can special. 2-tone blue and white is probably my favorite combo. And you're right about the crazy high dollar rigs. That old truck might not be as comfortable as the new ones but it will still do a lot of work. Would love to see it really get sorted.
I know people are going to think I'm full of it but I worked with a fellow back in 78 and the power steering belt was screaming and I was going to use some belt stuff and he told me to just get a bar of soap and rub it on the belt. Did that and it stopped it from screaming. I use that trick every time I have heard one every since then. Thanks for the video and I hope you and the family had a good time. Never can spend enough time with your Grandparents ,I know .
Hell yeah, that’s a decent ole truck . Nothing better than a good solid square body
Caught a glimpse of the new shop!!! Nice!!! Can’t wait to see it in upcoming videos!!!
Dalton’s content rocks the vibe we all yearn for… Long drives in classics with loved ones and burgers. Ooh-rah brother!
Agreed about I-80. I've driven most of the whole thing multiple times. It's hypnotic in all the worst ways. Sometimes you have to downshift just to stay awake.
I was on vacation with a friend of mine down at the beach a few years ago. They have those places that will air brush t-shirts with whatever you want on them. He is a truck driver. I had a shirt made for him with a picture of a big rig on it that says "I Jake Brake for Lot Lizards!" on it. 😂
Watching this now, not even painted. Wishing I had it for our family so we could use to haul our 41 foot 5th wheel. So we can camp with our 2 month old daughter .
Oooo we love blue and white with rattle can is great!
Looks decent-ish.
Leave the gold wheels!!
Dude you drove right by my hometown in nebraska. Would be great to meet y’all someday if ur ever back up this way. Know a lot of ol farmers with a lot of good stuff. Could Problably find ya some good deals. Love the content man keep it up.
I just went through Cody heading to Yellowstone and was super jealous on how well the old pickup hold up compared to New England. Also so beautiful out there!
It is crazy how small the world can be. Been watching and enjoying your channel for a couple of years now, and hear you are in my home town. Would have been awesome to meet you and could have provided garage for repairs.
Seeing the open road makes me happy I don't drive OTR anymore as a truck driver.
Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸
Nice truck, so glad to see you and JD getting to road trip while he's young, My Dad passed a year ago yesterday ,I miss him so much. He and I did a ebay trip from Kentucky to Connecticut for a lathe I bought and we saw the sign for Niagara Falls on the way home, we overnighted and rode the Maid of the Mist a trip worth a million dollars to me know in memories,
I love watching you and your pops team up!
Always entertaining!. A very well done to JD once again for some good camera work and his great assistance on the technicals..
Hey guys, thanks for taking me out of state and on an adventure. Well done! Love the channel! Real steel saves lives,!
0:20 love this truck! Understandable buy, I wouldn't have hesitated either. That square body style is awesome. Looking forward to see it painted in some stylish-but-cool 80s color scheme. awesome find.
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⚓ that certainly is a sweet find. It looks good with the rattle can paint job, Anna seems to clip down the highway nicely too. I hope Jess didn't suffer too much because of her tooth. Congrats on a successful trip. Keep up the great work And the awesome content guys 👍✌️🇺🇲
Thank you!
It's always a happy day when PBG posts a restoration I like learning alot about all of these year models I've learnt alot from yall and JYD thank you
I IMMEDIATELY ordered 2 of those oil filters for my truck ! Thanks for the part number ! 🎉😂
Why was the oil gritty then???
@@DannebergAcres Probably as Dalton pointed out they just chucked some pre-used oil in there. Given then mystery consumption issue, I almost don't blame them. It's going to be out of the engine by 100 miles anyways.
Best thing to wind down with at the end of the day
Love how ur lady is so cool with what you do and goes with the flow . My ex would be like you bought another piece of junk .
Im not a fan of dually wheel trucks, but this is a little gem of a truck. Great transformation with just some rattle cans. Nice video.
gotta give it to your boy he is really good at filming. love the vids and jess is rad.
I haven’t got to watch PBG in a bit. Glad to see you’re still up to mass shenanigans. Interstaterologically even! Ride on! 👊🏼
I'm always happy to see another video from you.
That rolling shot of the dually🤤🤤🤤🤤…. Even for a spraycan job you guys killed the trucks vibe. Looks like a sweet runner.
Sweet dually. The front grill looks awesome, too.
I'm colourblind, it's fantastic.....
Power Tour, eat your heart out. Good to see everything, and everyone made it there and back in good shape. As far as the oil consumption is concerned, I believe you are correct about the PCV valve. Especially considering how that rear end gear is, and the fact you were pushing 80 most of the way.. lol. That SBC must have been singing. Side note, the background score music is awesome. Once again, appreciate the effort you guys put into everything you all do.
Brought back memories driving my dads old ‘86 K20 from my home in northern MN all the way to Laramie WY for WyoTech. 4.10 gears and turbo 400 made the rpm’s sing for miles. Had both tanks sucked dry by Sioux Falls SD. Dad always ran the Baldwin equivalent of the tall filter. Easier to get a hold of for changing and held extra oil.
Been looking forward to yet another piece of pure gold from PBG and once again dalton delivers also loved the road trip from outside the barn
Just picked myself up a 350 sm465 k30! Would love to see the quick and dirty rebuild on this motor to stop it from burning oil. I'm about to pull the drive side head to replace the gasket and possibly a psiton or two as well! Would love to see how the master does it! Love this truck! Good luck out there!
Its Joseph (Dalton) and the amazing technicolor dream truck!
I am happy for you all made a safe trip. Great family times .. JD is learning a lot from you both and grappa… miss seeing your brother …. Great video nice truck.
Props to JD! He's becoming a really good cameraman. Keep it up!
I mean, that paintjob looks VERY Good in camera andfrom far away. Good job!
Nice truck Dalton! Glad y'all made it home safe and sound. Looked like a great trip - thanks for taking us along!
you're family dynamic is awesome!!!!!!
I love Jess for you.She seems like the perfect match that you deserve
That oil consumption will prob go waaaaay down with regular driving... With that low ratio rear end, I'm guessing you were probably doing a constant 3500+ rpm at hwy speeds.... Fun video brother, really enjoyable! A+++++
For rattlecans, that paint job turned out alright.
Dig on it bro! You are killing it right now.
Jess laughing at the Dix sign killed me. Near where I live the is a highway PP and it makes me giggle every time.
I like the trucker mud flats on the back you don't see that on newer trucks
Who searched for this before vgg? I never have before today.
Just lovin the vibe of this channel.
gave up on vgg a long time ago,too much motortrend high dollar bs

That is a very nice truck that deserves to live on!!
Belt dressing hack: use a plain bar of white soap and let it rub the contact surface of the belt while the engine is running. It will lubricate the belt and let it run over misaligned pulleys without destroying itself. It also quiets squeals and it WON’T make the belt slip.
It also cleans the pulleys!
And then, take a shower!
Maple syrup, or any syrup get the belt to grip good to.

Geez, you stole this!! To even find one not a rusted out hulk in the North East is a pipe dream at any price...I need to travel more 🙃😂 Nothing like a good rattle canning to get you far, at least 1200 miles, yes sir 😁Please don't ever change Dalton, you folks are the best! Nothing wrong with a little welding
Fish running around at the end made me chuckle. 😂 sweet find man. Seems like a great truck.
You definitely need to get that 2nd tank working someday and you might as well throw a big block in it while you are at it.
Yeah, cuz 9 mpg is TOO MANY!
@@JeffKopiswhy get 9 when you can dream of 6
Good video Dalton. I knew it was a good pickup when I saw the Kenworth emblem in the grill guard...
$3500 for the pickup, $100 for paint, and $4,000 for gas home LOL.
In 2001 I bought a one owner 79 GMC 3500 1 ton crewcab 4x4 with single rear wheels. I went through it
from one end to the other. It had the original 400 small block but it was tired, so I built a big block eating 406
for it. It has a turbo 400 trans and 3.73 gears. I like the hydro boost brakes when everything is working
like it should.
My brother lived in Gillette Wy. Went to visit him driving a 76 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 454 big block. Ran into a wind storm and was getting a whopping 3 mpg at 45 mph.
Spent the winter there and he had to keep his Furd (company truck) running almost 24/7. Even at 25 below my old beat up Chevy would start with no issues. Lord, ya gotta love the old trucks!
Keep having fun!!!!
The Sharpest Town in the West!
You are the dad I WISH I could be. Love the content and love that you include Jess and JD. Keep up the great work!
