Put a tiny dot of gray on the sky, pick up some white paint on your fingers, shut your eyes and imagine you are rubbing ointment on a bruise. Round once or twice only. Wear rubber gloves. Then give it a brush over with big soft brush, just once or twice.

you tell em len i so agree so many paintings that make no sense selling for high prices and they are tiny too,i have been painting on and off for years i get compliments but even i know i have alot to learn and to learn i feel you should paint everyday and keep watching and learning from real pro's like you ...and not just paint now and then and sell them there is so so much to learn

Well, I’m a beginner and don’t ever expect to paint to sell. It’s a real enjoyment to me but also a challenge. Although of course I want to learn how to paint properly. I want to paint my memories as part of my family book for illustration. They won’t be masterpieces, but a reasonable likeness of what has long gone. Or anyway, if my memory hasn’t romantasised the scene over the years. A pleasing way to help reader imagine the tim3 and place more clearly. That’s my hope, but reality might be rather different.

You are a fantastic artist. Why do you put masking tape around your canvas instead of using the whole canvas? It looks very good but am just curious.
When canvas is stretched over a wooden frame, you need about 2 inches of extra canvas all round.
