One quick tip for others doing live searches: it's usually good to put a max price on those especially early in league. If you can't afford multiple divines, set the max you can afford to reduce the noise.

It especially good with PoB and "Custom modifiers" field. Write something like "+10% Global Critical Strike Multiplier", get 40k dps, remove the line (or brick it for future use). Write "10% increased Attack Speed", get 55k dps. Now you know the weights (4 and 5.5) for your current build/gear. PoB helps to find not very obvious mod swaps. For example, RFers usually hunt for 14% dot multi jewels but 8% fire dot multi + 16% fire/dot damage might be better (and cheaper) for their setup.

this is so helpful, I could use trade site but with no explanation or clarifications on the site, I was just using basic filters with the "AND" search. it did the basic functions of what I needed but this brings it to another level. I'll actually be adding this to my browser bookmarks until I have learned it and can do all this on the fly.

what you also can do after setting up the weighted sum is sort descending for the weight and look if there is a cheap item early on (also optionally set a maximum buyout price)

Another cool tip if you dont know what your weighted sums are. You can get them set for you in POB by using the 'trade for these items' functionality. It will set the weights for you depending on what you want (damage, ehp pool etc)

One more thing about searches with weighted sums is you can sort by weighted sum if you click the value. If you set up your search well it can help you sift through them.
Great video, didn't understood why u choose 280 as the sum for the mods but other than that very informative!!
The amount is arbitrary, I could have set the weight for mana at 5 and chose 1400 for example, 280 was just a comfortable cutoff to sort through. 250 was too many results at sevrral hundred, and 300 may have only turned up like 9 results. I chose 280 because that's a reasonable number to search through but I may have gone on like a 295 if it was super cheap but then I can look at some slightly worse Amulets around it for reference to confirm I picked a good one

As a long time player I've been using counts for a while now but I never ventured into the weighted sums. Now I'm sold, and very much looking forward to trying them out next league. Thanks for the video.
One thing tho, I don't think you explained how the weight system "concretely" works (I might have missed it). So to make sure I got it: the weight you input is the value of each unit of the stat in question, so let's say I set life to be worth 0.5 and mana to 1, an item that has 100 life will have the same weight sum as an item that has 50 mana. Correct ?
That is correct, it is based on each "1" of that stat. So if there was a yes/no stat like "has 1 abyssal socket" you'll want to put that value high at like 80 or something because it's value is either 1 or 0. A stat like accuracy can roll super high so it might have to be a low multiplier like 0.05 since it can roll 600
One thing to add when you search for very niche items, set the price to any, so if person lists it with no price attached, it will still popup.
Great vid! I also like to use PoB find item function to generate weights and then delete some of the useless mods so that trade site does not choke
the problem with PoB is it does its calculations based on whatever your PoB dps is and doesnt update the config for things. ive tested that tool before and it just didnt give good results
my MFA build was aroudn 10b dps and on the defualt import of PoE ninja shows as 43k dps, so it did all the calculations on how to get my 43k dps tooltip higher and virtually everything it suggested was a massive downgrade.
its really about knowing the individual stat value within a reasonable guess
@@ConnerConverseYou have to set up all important factors in the Configurations in PoB so that the actual DPS is correct. That way PoB will give correct Upgrades for your build. I've tested it with jewels a lot. And it was always an Upgrade.
When looking for open mod to craft, include both open prefix and crafted prefix, because you can change craft prefix yourself. It will not avoid crafted mods that can brick the item if they match non crafted mods you want, but you can filter those crafted mods also. Otherwise you might miss some gear.
If you click the greyed out modifiers at the bottom it will filter by that mod specifically. You can do this with the sum and get the highest weight items first. I sorta skimmed through so I'm not sure if you explained that part.
Also set max price to your budget for the item while sorting by score. Then you could just pick the cheapest in top10 or so, if they are roughly equal.
Also bookmark the finished trade pages and organize them into a bookmark folder. I will have multiple folders for different characters based on their specific needs, then I can "OPEN ALL" when I need to.
Also consider Better Path of Exile Trading extension. It does pretty much what you mentioned but without bookmarks. I use it on firefox (no longer receiving updates) but it works with chrome as well.
The TFT browser plugin (YES I KNOW, but I guess they dont really make money of that?) lets you save searches and watch items

This video was SUPER helpful. Affliction was my first league. My buddy got me into it and im addicted and so excited for Necropolis. We both have been wondering how to search # of stats when we were buying 6 stat rings and sorting through 4-6 stat ones. Just an idea for a video and not sure if its viable or worth your time but sorting through gear as you run through the acts. I waste so much time looking through gear during my acts and it took me forever to get to maps. How do you speed that process up yourself?
Just SSF for acts mostly, accumulate 5-10 chaos by like lvl 70 then buy a bunch of 1-2c pieces of gear for upgrades getting into maps

I sent this to my friend who has a mental block on learning PoE trade and me trying to help him just ends up going in one ear and out the other 99% of the time. Fingers crossed this helps.
Okay question about weighted search. With final search setup in video if item will have some random craft mod, so stats from it you didn't weight and rest stats will be ok but sum less than 280 (so 5 good+crafted random not good) - search will not show it. Because item will have less than 280 points and because of that crafted mod will not count as potential open suffix or prefix which could give extra 35/40 points and potentially reach overall 280+ score. So how to solve this problem?

Loved the video. I understood the weighted sum part which was new to me, but was unclear why you chose 280? Is that because experience tells you thats a good number based on the sum of the stats?
Since the number is arbitrary based on what you picked for weighting, you basically set it at an amount where it's a reasonable number to look through. That's why I tried 250 first then saw too many results and upped it to 280. 300 may have yielded too few results and even though I'll ultimately end up buying a 300+ seeing a few other results helps verify that I'm actually getting a good deal

Conner, when looking at the empty prefix or suffix mods. Dont look at the mods, look at the grey text beneath it. It states how many empty mods it has and which mods are empty xD

Awesome, I'm not really bad at trading using the regular search strings, but I did always wonder how to approach the whole weighted sum because when PoB generates it that's a hot freaking mess of super specific decimal weights and it doesn't teach you a whole lot :') But putting a mod as 1 and then effectively rating any other stat as how much of this stat would I value as equal to 1 of that stat sounds like an easy enough way to go.

@44:22 Is the first 2 1x Div amulets at Sum:330 different from the previous 290 amulets becouse these have open prefix even tho they have a crafted suffix, correct ? if so given that we weight a suffix craft more than a prefix what would we do with that open prefix just yolo exalt ?

for the weighted sum example, would adding crafted prefix/crafted suffix each max 1 in your count help account for the fact that you want at most 1 empty affix and can craft over anything there?

I find it easier to sort by sum then look for abnormally low price, rather than looking for high sums
Hey, great video! I hope it helps for a lot of people better understand how amazing trade search is.
Although i have a minor problem with how you explained setting up the weights.
For the sake of completion: Weighted sum takes the values, multiplies each with their weight then adds them together.
Searching for Attributes with DIFFERENT ROLL RANGES, for them just to be worth the same score, weights should be different.
In numbers:
- to maximum Mana (* - 73) -> weight: 1 (reference value)
- to Intelligence (* - 55) -> weight: 1.33 (73/55)
- to all Attributes (* - 32) -> weight: 2.28 (73/32)
So if you want to indicate that int worth more than mana it should be weighed more than 1.33 to contribute more to the score.
To connect with the video: 1.5 weight for int means that you value it 12% more than mana (1.5/1.33) and for the same reason the 1.2 weight for str would lower its value in my understanding.
(Also the way you set the all attribute weight starting with adding int's and str's doesn't make sense to me beyond it "feels" right bc PoE has well set ratios)

Good starter skill if you can pick up the gem early. I'd probably reroll into something else by like lvl 90 that scales harder for endgame

probably a dumb question but how did u come up with the number of 280? is that a sum of all the numerical values of each stat like 50 mana + 30str +20int etc? so do u have to calculate the rough estimate u want to get by all those numerical values of each stat?

If it comes to that.. can you include some movement speed tech (cyclone is slow).. like whats the best way to increase it.. without destroying the damage scaling or int/strength/mana stacking... Like do you do haste aura, gems like phase run, onslaught on items. Would taking "death rush" be worth running while doing low/mid tier maps.. comparable to a ring with good all around stats... since u get like 10% phys reduction and 25% movement speed from adrenaline.. are there any alternatives to that.. since "The Stampede" or maybe even "skyforth" if you're not running RF are decent to some point.. but once you take off stampede it kinda feels like shit :)... is there like any hidden tech to zoom faster :).
By the time us "shits" are sniping you're prolly gonna resell those to us for 5x the price :D

Where did you get the weighted sum value as "280." How did you determine this number?
Increase it if there's too many results, decrease it if there's too few. It's an arbitrary sorting number for ranking all the Amulets for sale. Notice I tried at 250 first and had like 200 results, then at 280 it was about 60, then I finally picked a winner that was a 330
