@@RichMitchYes, JCE has said that he wants his creations to be fully present in toto from first spray to the fading hours. He does not (or at least this was his view) believe in having a cascade effect of top note, then minutes later the mids, followed by the prominence of the base notes several minutes further on. That is not his style. Rather, the whole composition is like a struck chord when sprayed-and then that blend of notes is sustained until ultimately fading out in a kind of decrescendo.
You are a brilliant duck on the internet.. Not just a duck 😅. He used the ISO to express, to give another dimension to the composition, he is playing with the chemical and not the other way around like in some other modern fragrances.. So yeah a master perfumer he is.. Great review Rich!
Excellent review Rich! I’m a bit pissed because the current version I keep smelling at stores has the orange *way* weaker than my near-empty ~2018 bottle. The current basically smells like iso-e and pepper as a result. Barely any citrus. The difference is so big I’m going to get Eau Givree instead… never thought I’d prefer Givree over EDT, but Givree’s dry down somehow smells closer to my EDT than the current one does…
So great to hear your thoughts on this one Rich. I never want to be without this fragrance. I don’t think I know of a more versatile one, all seasons masculinity! Absolute masterpiece!
Love the fragrance and the bottle is amazing to me!! Great! Great review!! I like reviewers who talk about what they truly love!! And not always talk about what was given to them for free!!
I see why his work is compared to watercolor paintings. They're open airy. Though I do find Terre in particular rather more earthy/grounded. I own the Edt version (I find it more open than the parfum). Didn't love the Vetiver flanker, and liked Fraiche but didn't quite click with it. Then smelled Givree and loved it and just bought that too. Rare I buy flankers but this is one I've done it. And also I have Declaration, and again, a rare flanker I own, but I also have the Essence version.
@@MasterClasster I haven't smelled any of the declaration flankers, I have tried the terre flankers and I think they're nice! I keep umming and aaring over buying it lol
@@RichMitch As mentioned, I usually find flankers a bit of a cashgrab and redundant but there are a few exceptions. If you like Declaration but find it a bit too stinky/old-fashioned, I ended up with the Essence (red box blue bottle) one and actually also (forgot to mention) Declaration D'Un Soir as a nice clean woody rose. If you see those two give 'em a sniff!
genuinely just sprayed this from an earlier run sample moments ago only to see you upload at the same time, Simpatico. Bursting citrus over wet shadey stone is nice
Outstanding review 🦆 I find myself wearing this in the spring time of year when it’s cooler in the morning and warms up through the day. This perfume if it could have an occasion that fits into my lifestyle it is a early morning hunt in the woods on a warm spring morning. That is when I wear it and it’s about all the wear it gets from me I should try and reach for it more often!
One of my favourite fragrances, have been wearing this for over 10 years. I echo your sentitments, it's brilliant. Ah I wish for those times when designer houses would release quality fragrances like this.
@@RichMitch sad isn't it. I'm not surprised it smells better than newer Frederic Malle. Some of the new niche releases have been so unimaginative and just a bit meh. Always loved it … absolute masterpiece. Rich i recently fell in love with montales vetiver patchouli now i’m not a fan of montale & their bombastic oud creations ( & their cheapo packaging) but this is a corker. Many people compare it to terre but i don’t get that at all but it does have the same ethereal feel & a clean earthiness i suppose but i’d be interested to hear a review if you get the chance? I can always send a sample if you like?
@@RichMitch I also smelled the parfum it was always my favorite since tres Fraiche was discontinued but I found the parfum to be very weak shit performing I wore that one yesterday but smelled damn good
I'm picking up my bottle today. Terre d'hermes parfum pure perfume. I noticed some of the bottles are the same lol. Yes I love the scent. I just got roja elysium and Isola Blu love both. Terre d'hermes and Isola Blu drydown do favor each other
Ah yes TDH the EDT - definitely deserves the modern classic moniker. Twisty cap is a bit shit, but great juice. It was a shame they discontinued Eau Très Fraiche, it was a decent flanker, Eau Givrée (also very effervescent and more grapefruity) is also good but I suppose more compliant than the old one, super fresh in the hot summer. All of them are very easy wears.
Love this. To my nose it’s the smell of a fruity alcoholic drink wafting across the hot sandy dessert. Finding the oasis. It’s beautiful. A compliment beast. I try many fragrances like you. But mate if I was going to stick to one. This would be it. You can stick your sausage and your Aventus up where the sun don’t shine. Cos this is the Holy Grail 😊

A modern classic that straddles both the traditional redolence of past chypres and sheer transparency of current fragrances.
