    Could a person simply construct a portfolio thats has a 5% dividend rate and never sells shares? So you'll never run out?

      That is the hope! I'm doing the same with 2 ETFs JEPI and SCHD. It pays all my yearly expenses. Only downside maybe if companies cut dividend however, that will happen even with simple withdrawal strategy! Also some Govt bonds are paying north of 4% now!

      @@Antandthegrasshopper Companies could cut their dividends in hard times. But usually seek to increase them back when the economy improves. Investing in strong companies that increase dividends over time to keep up with inflation is superior to buying bonds imo. Bond payments don't go up over time and lose ground to inflation. Plus good dividend stocks tend to go up in price over time.

    This topic was very useful and it was explained very well I took away a couple of tips that I will be able to utilize in my own situation now that I am retired and have some money that I don’t really need
