    Thanks for posting this! My grandpa recently gave me his old one that he hasn't used in at least 20 years. I just lit it using the old fuel that was still in it, and it works like a charm! Can't wait to use it next weekend. Mine's dated 5-84.

    Just found one for $10 at a thrift store, 1-81. Cleaned up, light maintenance, new fuel, got 2C boiling in about 1:30 at sea-level. Not light; super heavy for "backpacking" but 10/10 cute and fun. Its my new fav car camping stove for sure.

    Just fired mine up after 40 years with 40 year old fuel! Works great. They are cold blooded, you have to wait for them to heat up. It helps to read directions🤣

    I just picked one up of ebay for $20. It's a bit dirty but otherwise I'm fantastic shape. I prefer these to the 400b with the single fuel valve as they shimmer better but the generators are getting VERY hard to come by and when you find them they're stupid expensive.
    And a tip for putting fuel from the large cans, turn it 180° so that the opening is at the top instead of the bottom. This allows air in and it won't glug and slash like that. You can put the fuel out in a trickle without spilling. My grampa taught me that a LONG time ago. 😁

    I have this exact same stove, bought new from Mountain Coop in Vancouver in 1980. I used it on several hikes in the Rockies, including winter camping in Banff and BC. Considered quite lightweight back then, very useful in the backcountry. If you kept the flame low and didn't waste fuel, you could go for few days on a single tank. Barely used for 35 years. It's in good shape and fires right up. It nests in a rectangular Coleman aluminum vessel that doubles as a 1-litre cooking pot, with a lid that serves as a smaller pot or dish, and a pot-gripper.
    Curious to know what it might be worth.

      Wow , that is really cool. Thanks for sharing 👍 as far as a complete set with the aluminum Cook/ Case and handle. You can be looking at 125 to even 200 if it is in collector shape. I do find them loose with decent paint but requiring work for 50. Have a great week . Thanks again

      I run them , Hard , all day if I must work all the levers frequently, 1 cap of seafoam can produce results also. RUN IT HARD. LONG , it will probably settle out !

    You have to follow instructions on tank to light the brown 400, it has a gen/valve like an older 2 burner suitcase as in turning the valve up but with the brown stove turn it to light on the red valve so it only gets air and no liquid to heat up otherwise it keeps flooding with liquid fuel being too rich and orange flamewise. Flame will blue up real quick if you follow lighting instr on tank, and yes it is best single burner along with 508 model.

      Good, one question, why does everything look backwards in the video, like the writing and even the way you tightened the fill cap on the stove tank looked backwards.

      @@darrentrudeau3167 I don't know, has to do with my phone, the way it takes video its not done on purpose, anything else ?

    • @TOAOZuur
      @TOAOZuur ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. It also took me a while to figure out how to light these 400a stoves. But it's all written on the stove itself. Now I usually pour some alcohol over the burner for pre heating. Just like how many other liquid fuel stoves work.

    Hey, Do yourself a favor and upgrade the pump cup to a leather one, kits are available everywhere cheaply, Good Luck

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well ok then , I had just received the stove that day with no glaring issues. My choice to replace any pump cup would be on an as needed basis and leather. Thanks for the advice and stopping by.

  • @soultear360
    @soultear360 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You have to pump for a minute about 60 pumps once it's lit

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It also matters how full your fount is , I light my stoves with fewer pumps until they warm up then add air.

    Cool. What date code is on the side of yours? Mine is 8-81. Many years ago mine worked fine sitting in several inches of snow in North Georgia mountains, without the need for pre-heating paste. Trying to solve leaking problems now. Seems like you scored a good one!

      Where did it spring a leak? Mine springs a lead from the small hex nut at the simmer control. Tightened it as needed, and after a while, it bottmed out, and no more leanks.

    why don't you re-post this video the correct way not the reversed way. The box letters are reversed. When you move the lever to the right it shows you moving it to the left. etc. etc. It's just reversed of what it should be. All the items in your shop that have words are all backwards. What the hell happened?
