Stream English is all about pushing your GCSE English Language and Literature skills to a grade 9. One of the best ways to do that is for me to see your work as I use my experience as a teacher and an examiner to give you specific advice. You can submit essay questions you’ve written on the Stream English website; I will then create a video where I mark your work and talk you through how you can improve. Submit your work here: streamenglish.co.uk/submit

Heyy, I don't know if you saw mine but I submitted P1 Q3 a week or so ago but I didn't add the text (I said where it was from though) hopefully that's okay. Also honestly thank you so much for doing this because (like I said before my English teacher is basically useless) and like I asked her to mark an essay I wrote and she said it won't be immediately and I'll get it back sometime after Easter so that's really unhelpful because I won't be able to send her anything else in the meantime.

i need this coz i literally got 3/8 and somehow predicted a 9, but my teacher just said that everyone gets bad in the structure question and she would too so there's no need to dwell on it... thanks

I'm sorry to contradict a fellow teacher, but I have to give the opposite opinion. Q3 is worth dwelling on because - once you know the trick to it - it is an easy question for grade 9 students to master. I have experience with students getting 8/8 for that question in the exam consistently, all via the strategies I talk about in this video.
The challenge is that many teachers and students have struggled to figure out how to answer it. Mainly because the premise of separating the effect of structure from language is an utter nonsense and this is, in many ways, a really stupid question; when highly able students up and down the country are struggling to get half marks in a question, the problem is the question not the student. AQA rant over.
I'm glad you found this helpful. You may also want to have a look at these videos:

Thank you so much for this as this has really helped; do you think you would consider making a video like this for paper 2 [particularly questions 4 and 2 ?]? If not, no worries and thank you so much for this video

firstly, thank you so much for this. I just wanted to ask do you need to explicitly say things like 'this would interest the reader because..' or 'this makes the reader feel'? Thanks!

You can do this!!! If strangers on the internet can believe in you, you can believe in you too!

My teacher always says make sure it "makes sense in and of itself". if you don't say what they are feeling if he hasn't read the text he wouldn't know... so put it in so he can imagine what the text is really about.

I got a grade 4 in my recent language mock 1 mark off a grade 5 is there any way I can get a better grade 😭

    • @StreamEnglish
      @StreamEnglish  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Increasing to a grade 5 sounds like a totally achievable goal if you were so close in a mock. Unfortunately, I can't give any specific advice without seeing your work. Still, if you're here on TH-cam studying hard and trying to improve then that is a great start!

I think the first paragraph show the conflict between the Rosabel's idealism and her actual real life. Specially when she bought flowers and she can not even feed her self properly .

I would not have enough time to write ALL of that and actually make sense.

You'd be surprised what you can be capable of with practice. I was certainly surprised when I was an examiner by the amount students wrote in exam conditions.
The timings of this exam are, in my opinion, unfairly tight. However, I did learn a general rule of thumb for the quantity that is about right for this question while examining it: 1 and a half to two of pages (of the AQA exam formatted pages, not full A4). Of course, quality is far more important than quantity, but if a student had written a lot less/more than that amount, it was usually also an indicator of quality.

Some txts are so painfully boring and difficult to understand that I need 12 min just to read them! Ugly stories as well.

    • @StreamEnglish

Ha ha - I don't deny AQA can choose some pretty dull extracts, BUT I ended up loving Q3 the most in this paper because I saw the act of coming up with interesting things to say about the structure a fun challenge. I know that, as an English teacher, my concept of 'fun' can be very different to normal people...
