Hi Marko, I started a man's book club on Facebook called, THE MEN'S BOOK CLUB, INTERNATIONAL in October 2018. We have 13 members. It hasn't been easy to have engagement and participation from the members. Don't know how to get them or others to engage and participate in the book club. My friend started a book club last year. We meet in the classroom during lunch and discuss the book, once we finish it, we have a party where we do things based on the book. Ex; Charlie and the chocolate factory-> make chocolate
I'm in 5th grade and really wanted to make a book club since 3rd grade. I started on today and was looking for some tips. You really helped me. My book is called ABC, its stands for Adventure Book Club. In my book club we exchange books through each other and read them. I didn't know how to start but you really helped. Thx!
I’ve been in a very cohesive book club since 2005. We meet every other month at someone’s house except December when we go to a nice hotel for afternoon tea. We are an educated adult group and pick interesting books, but I’ll admit it’s more social group than book discussion. I think that’s why it’s lasted for almost 20 years though. We do talk about the book but we’re also friends (old and new) hanging out. I think people knowing and liking each other, and wanting to see each other, and having a good time, is what makes people want to get together. Being too rigid about limiting discussion to the book would kill it for us.
That's an excellent idea and so timely especially now. Let me know if your book club members would enjoy having me visit your online club via Skype or Zoom. You can reach me at brad@wbradfordswift.com. I can either answer questions about one of my 26 books or speak about life as an indie author and then answer questions. My books are also available here: payhip.com/PorpoisePublishing . Best of luck with your club. Stay healthy and safe.
I recently started a book club on fb and it's like pulling teeth!! It's such a challenge getting ppl to purchase the book...worse read and discuss. A poll was taken, we decided on the book and now...bleh! My motive, intent, vision for this club was (and still is) soo precise yet I cannot seem to garner enough support/enthusiasm. Hellllp!! 🥴
I'm curious if you still have your online book club going. If so, do you use Facebook or meet via Skype or Zoom or some other way? Do you ever have authors attend for a Q&A? If so, I'd be interested. You can reach me at brad@wbradfordswift.com. I can either answer questions about one of my 26 books or speak about life as an indie author and then answer questions. I like your question about men and book clubs. I'm starting up a book club and want to make it enjoyable for everyone so that it'll be 'sticky'. My research brought me to your video. My first thought was that men are visual. I think we'd be drawn more by a movie club where we watch a great movie followed by discussion than by reading. The (few) times when I've experienced a story in book and film formats, I've always been disappointed by the choices made by the producers of the films. However, if I don't read the book, I can just enjoy the movie without knowing what I'm missing. Also, life is short, and the time commitment - movie vs book - is a big factor. Not trying to speak for 'men', just me, when I say that my interests are things like computers, business/money, sports, religion (regular church meetings kind of fulfill the 'book club' slot for this one)... and I don't have much free time left for fiction books. The club I'm starting is for entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs. This is something that I believe will have near equal appeal to men and women. #BTO17
I know this is an old video, but these are some really great tips, and you are super encouraging in your post. Would you be willing to do an update on this topic in the near future?
Thanks! I've been wanting to start one (man here👋) for a couple of years with a coworker turned friend (also man). We both really like stuff written by military and former military members but our significant others love fiction. Maybe we'll meet in the middle with some historical fiction when we get the ball rolling!
Great video! I'm starting a book club for inmates at a jail. My first groups will be with female inmates but I do hope to expand to the mail inmates as well. You're tops were very helpful. I especially liked the idea of getting an author involved if it is possible. Maybe a local author.
As a younger teen, I want to start a book club for girls and boys who are on the younger side, but wanting to read YA instead of middle grade. The age range would probably be from like 13-16, but yeah. Just a thought I had.
I've started 2 book clubs -- 1 is for my 10 yo daughter and other primary school age children. They each bring what they have been reading the past week and share about it. It's been great fun and they all have gotten so much more comfortable with public speaking. With covid 19 isolation, I moved it online to zoom and am still getting the numbers. The second is for adults, meets monthly and is specifically themed to books on the topics of homeschooling and learning. This one has been more challenging to get up and going. Many people have joined the fb group indicating interest, but I've only had 3 and then 5 show up at the 2 meetings so far. It is still early days so I'm not giving up. Again, we are meeting via zoom which is its own set of challenges. Cheers
Starting my first book club this week. Have never been in one before and being the person starting it I was searching for advice and found your video. Helped tremendously! Thank you!
OMG THANK YOU! My friend (Male lol) is starting a literature club for our school and he asked me to be his supervisor! I was given the first task of getting organization ideas and this helped so much!
I’m thinking about starting a book club going through the Epics and discussing ancient masculinity and the character traits of heroes. I think as a guy when I think of a book club I think of The Secret Garden. Not that I didn’t like reading that but when I think of guys getting together I think of smoking cigars, drinking whiskey, grilling out, and reading something that draws on that spirit.
I'm an indie author with 26 books in my backlist and a reader since the 4th grade and that's a long time. Strangely, I've never been a part of a book club. Being a bit gregarious by nature unlike many authors who are more introverted I'd enjoy speaking to book clubs and I'm comfortable skyping as well as using Zoom or Facetime which is what brought me to your video. Well done. I learned a lot. Thanks for taking the time to do it. I think you actually got up to about 13 good tips.
I am starting a book 📕 club this week with my mom and nieces. We plan on reading gone with the wind a chapter a week. I found your ideas helpful and if it goes well I may suggest a monthly whole book 📖 club
You are probably only about 20 years old or less. I wanna start one too, but I wanna gauge if people of my age 52 would join my club. I once started a book club when I was 40 and starbucks loved it, but it ended up becoming a dating club and they left the club as couples. Thinking ... who was fooled? Probably me, or them missing out on knowledge.
I'm curious to learn how your online book club going. Do you use Facebook or meet via Skype or Zoom or some other way? Do you ever have authors attend for a Q&A? If so, I'd be interested. You can reach me at brad@wbradfordswift.com. I can either answer questions about one of my 26 books or speak about life as an indie author and then answer questions. I'm a guy, and I just started a book club with a bunch of guys. It's something I've been kicking around, theres a lot of logistics and guys are bad at responding and committing to a time. We are about to have our first meeting and 4 or 5 of the 12 people are able to attend. We are reading Stoicism, or that's the plan. As a guy it does seem kinda cheesy and such, but I wanted to get a community of guys together to better ourselves to better our families.
No clue why guys are not typically in book clubs. I’m starting a classic book club right now. So far I only have 2 guys and 4 girls willing to join. I’m so excited to start!!!
Welcome back Chandler! I've always wanted to be a part of a book club, and just haven't found the right group or time. Do you have any online book club sources you'd recommend?
Can you create a video on engaging conversations or questions that open up dialogue? I am trying to create a how to for virtual book clubs for several global employees in different areas but the big question is if the group and host is Predominantly introverted or not comfortable articulating their thoughts why typeset questions help them?
I’m currently in a small club right now finding inspiration for better discussions. I think that there are many female-dominated book clubs simply because it is a safe space for like-minded people to express their honest views. There’s simply less freedom for this discourse among women globally. I think there are few only-male book clubs because it prevents people that benefit from status quo ideology from seeing beyond their individual perspective. I think men are often in co-ed clubs because they gain insight into experiences and beliefs outside of their own. Thanks for the great video!
The summer after I graduated high school I started a book club by going to the library and asking people if they would be interested. I got so many people to join, including the libararians lol. I had to dismiss myself from it to go to college that August but they still did it for quite a while.
I am a 68 year old man who is trying to start a book club. I also don't see why we don't have men starting them, and I have 4 men and 4 women who will join. I think we will primarily use zoom, but will also have some irl. Thanks for the good tips. How long should we wait between meetings ?
I’m 6 years late but I’m starting a book club centered around philosophy and psychology. I don’t think book clubs are feminine but not many men read or think as I’m sure many ladies can attest to lol
Haha lol yes. I am a man in a psychology university, i started a book club and i am the only guy. It didnt happen yet but i think i will go insane being just near women
no i don't, i've been planning on doing it. it's just hard to get around to it. Thanks for the video i appreciate ppl like you posting very informative info.
I made my own book club and there are mainly women. It is so hard to keep participation going. It's on FB with all people from the neighbour and we meet monthly and all it's good but out of 145 who joined, only about 10 manage to come to the meeting. Any advice?
Hey Chandler, I just found your video whilst doing research for the male book club I'm setting up and found it pretty interesting what you said. It's me and some friends from different groups, as well as a friend or two of theirs that I'm not really acquainted with. As a few of us live in different parts of the country it's a virtual book club, we have our first discussion next month on fb Messenger, discussing Fight Club (breaking the first and second rule, I know). I decided to set this group up myself out of frustration because I couldn't find a book group that suited my needs, but I also was wondering why there are so few male book groups.
You can meet at a hotel 😂😂😂 I’m not sure if I have this kind of book club because I find parts in books that stand out and read only that and share something new every day... but the tips were still very helpful! Thanks
Guys are worried about looking to feminine by joining a book club. But in reality intellectual & deep conversation is an attractive trait in anyone. And that often is a result from reading books.
I would love to be a part of a book club, and honestly...I don't have a good excuse as to why I'm not searching for one here in the Austin area. I've done reading challanges with my friends before, where they pick a book and we read it and talk about it and then I pick a book and we read it and talk about it. Usually these friends don't live in the same city, so it is a virtual or telephonic event. I wouldn't mind doing an in person one though.
I know of two separate book clubs, one that's all women and one that's all men. Apparently they read completely different books. But, I definitely get what you mean, it definitely seems like a female dominated type of get together. I've got no ideas about why though. One of these days I intend to join one myself. Once I've settled in a place for more than a few months at a time, I'll start looking around. Good suggestion about starting at a book store.
Do the guys read nonfiction? That's my perception of all male book clubs. And I understand that even less--why do men of a certain age turn their back on fiction? But I"ve also asked men why they can't then discuss non-fiction books. The response has been that they aren't reading narrative non-fiction therefore discussion wouldn't be interesting. WHY!?? Oh man, I just don't understand this.
I definitely think they tilt more towards nonfiction, without completely excluding fiction. Don't know why either. It definitely takes a lot more work to convince even my dad (who recommended all of the great scifi classics to me when I was a teenager) to pick up a fiction book.
Never been part of a book club. Prager U starting a national one for conservatives. Need tips about how you can get a hold of the book needed without spending 20 bucks a book and return to not clutter a 1500 sq ft home. I can't read the latest and greatest only what I find at the library or thru Hoopla.
What a great idea and time to start a book club. Start our kids reading early! I started in the fourth grade when my new next-door-neighbor felt sorry for my single mom who I was bugging to come out and play with me. Mrs. Crabtree bought me a stack of books from her job. She was the children's librarian in Raleigh NC. It worked. I quit bugging my mom and became a life long reader. I'm now an indie author. Do you still have your book club going? Do you ever have authors attend for a Q&A? If so, I'd be interested. I think my Zak Bates Eco-adventure series would be of interest to your middle graders. You can reach me at brad@wbradfordswift.com. I can either answer questions about one of my 26 books or speak about life as an indie author and then answer questions. My books are also available here: payhip.com/PorpoisePublishing . Best of luck with your club. Stay healthy and safe.
I am a male and I have just started a book club. All my members are female however, and I am not trying to get with any of them except my fiance. Quite plainly, do not know many other males that read.
I am a teenager thinking of starting a book club for other teenagers , it's just that there aren't really many people I know of my age who genuinely like reading books and would want to invest time talking about them. So if anyone of you is interested, do tell me .
Hi lady.....also while you are relaxing, READ: Apartheid's Insanity and Stupidity By Mateu Nonyane...available on AMAZON and TAKEALOT. Thank you in advance.
My friend and I talking about a book club. 4 of us, 3 guys and a her. We are thinking of adding another woman or two to the group cause we want to be inclusive and not just a boys clubs.
Today's most accomplished and fulfilled people (around the globe) are regular people that incorporate the joy of reading into their routines. Rather they're learning, laughing or both, what set them apart is that they've discovered their favorire genre(s). They spend a half hour/day exercising the magical power of the mind. But why read several books when you can have a book series that keeps your favorite characters flourishing over several books? Who'd want to grow attached to characters living in one book when there's an extended series avaliable with a lovable cast? If a single series could have you rollin' on the floor, flirting, learning, relating, loving, sexing, texting and begging for more, would you add reading to your life? What if such a book series had the ability to take you places deep within yourself, issue you an evolved sense-of-self, a spiritual makeover and could prove to you that you are a god.... Would you be interested in that series? Of course we would. "A GODDESS AMONGST US" isn't just a "good read", it'a an epic experience. In this exciting new series, we begin with young lovers who meet, fall in love and conceive a sensitive baby girl. Main character: Michelle stops speaking at age 6 (selectively). We experience her heartfelt toddler years before she takes her world by surprise. At 19yrs old, Michelle literally jumps into the hearts of millions as a backup dancer for her adopted brother. While dancing on a syndicated talent show, Michelle shocks her world with an unbelievable demonstration that can only be described as godly. A modern dispensation falls in love with the small, wide-eyed delight. A sweet, soft 'natured teen becomes a household name as she performs many jaw-dropping miracles that controdict physics and leaves masses of spectators speechless. Time and time again Michelle and her closest friends travel the globe making televised appearances to dance, party and baffle academia manifesting her imagination. (Later in this saga) She facilitates an ALL-GIRL school of spirit science's to teach 333 girls/woman how their feminine principle is divine. This creates concerns for government bodies and upper echelons that would rather women not to be spiritually empowered. Michelle reveals human potential to be far beyond the laws that govern physics. She proves to be an amazingly telepathic as the story progresses through a Fijian beauty who's rare gift allows her to hear Michelle's unspoken speech. This series will leave you awe-inspired. Shorty's wisdom will lovingly change you forever by teaching you what ALL academia denies you to know. This novel series will bust your gut with laughter, warm your heart with sentiments and deliver life-altering esoteric insight like no other in its genre. You don't have to be a reader to be swept away in this series. You don't have to be a scholar to enjoy Michelle's hugs, kisses and boy-toying girlfriends. This title has MAJOR MOTION PICTURE potential from its very first chapter. You're invited to love, danca and learn from Michelle. Connect to the deepest parts of yourself that makes you a god. This is your new favorite on-going book series. Michelle guarantees it. WARNING: This is only the first part--of many--ripe with cuteness, kisses, colorful characters and practical personalities. Feel free to jump right in. To my readers, fans and future fans. I love you. I love you so much. I don't believe we have to know somebody personally before we love them spiritually. My goal is to bring Michelle to life as vividly as she still exists in my lucid dream state. Her affections, her vibrancy, her influence and her lessons are all pieces to an epic ongoing 10 book series. Books #1 & 2 will be availible tommorrow via your Amazon app for downloading. Episode 3 is on the way. I'm excited that I decided to so this. Michelle's a sensitive gift to the world from a sensitive man. My name is Robert Lee Laster. Sure: I could fill paragraph space with interesting things about me, but I am not the star of this feature. That's not my goal. My pleasure is knowing Michelle is also living you as she's been living me all these years. It's reasonable to expect a new full-length episode every four months. Thank you so much for your positive Amazon Reviews. HeartsHugs&Kisses - Robert
I gotta say chandler at the half of the video I kept imagine women in summer hats whos drinking tea and talking about the book they read and then you brought that subject up,I mean I guess that guys do get togther and talk about book thier read but I think they probly do it in a podcast or someting like and I definitely gonna go a sotra hippie book store that I know and ask if they have a book clud
My theory is that guys have trouble nailing down plans--true or false? I think the organizing the group meeting is just less natural. It's not that guys wouldn't want to talk about the books. It's the actual logistics of finding a time and a place that everyone will commit to. I could be wrong about that though.
Just for me:
1. Invite a variety of people
2. Talk about the book (people tend to get off-topic); look up trivia about the author
3. Change it up (i.e. read different dramas, invite different people, watch a movie)
4. Don't be a jerk about a book
5. Don't pick books that are too long (under 400 pgs)
6. Challenge yourself
7. Set your next book & meeting before you leave
8. Accept that some people won't finish the book
9. Play with the theme of the book
10. Check out your local book store (if you're trying to find a bookclub)
Thank you. Great tips. I'm thinking of starting a book club online. I love books and reading

I think as a guy when I think of a book club I think of The Secret Garden. Not that I didn’t like reading that but when I think of guys getting together I think of smoking cigars, drinking whiskey, grilling out, and reading something that draws on that spirit.
Beautiful tips, charmingly presented.
I'm in middle school right now, and I'm about to go to a book club in my school library, I'm thinking about bringing "Lunch Money" by Andrew Clements.
Thank you for the tips! I am definitely going to use some of these tips. I just started a book club for young children and those who them.
I am starting a book 📕 club this week with my mom and nieces. We plan on reading gone with the wind a chapter a week. I found your ideas helpful and if it goes well I may suggest a monthly whole book 📖 club
Oh wow, this is refreshing to know I’m on the right path as I’ve started my own BookClub 👑
Are you still doing it. I'm looking for a book club
@@ReignBeauxStar Follow us on Instagram to join in the fun..! We have just started a new book this month.

I'm actually starting a book club this April and I'm a guy!😂
Good luck
Me to dude
well im looking for a club so i'd be glad to join urs :)
How's it going and what sort of books have you been reading? We're trying to develop a space where more men can participate.
Love these tips. I am preparing to start my own online book club so I am grateful for your content!
My books are also available here: payhip.com/PorpoisePublishing . Best of luck with your club. Stay healthy and safe.
I'm interested in being in a book club. Are you still doing it?
Hi there! I want to join your book club!
Elegant cabin in the woods...Intriguing setting for a mystery written about members of a book club.
I'm a male and trying to build a book club for gay, black, and all beings friendly.. I'm extremely nervous vut I'm gonna have at at!
Patricia Foster only gay ?
Patricia Foster GOOD LUCK 🍀
Why only gay and black?
Thanks for helpful tips. I am starting a book club as a subset of a membership group I run. All the members of the BC are men so far....
you speak on this with so much passion. Love it.
I’m a 27 year old guy in Toronto and I just started a book club today. Thanks for the tips and wish me luck :)
Your reaction to the hotel was perfect! LOL
I am also running a book club in Korea. Your video is very helpful Thank you.😊
I love seeing other men starting and joining book clubs 😝🔥
This was super helpful, thank you! I'm in the process of setting one up at work.
The summer after I graduated high school I started a book club by going to the library and asking people if they would be interested. I got so many people to join, including the libararians lol. I had to dismiss myself from it to go to college that August but they still did it for quite a while.
I’m starting a book club. Books changed my life for the better. This video helped me a lot. I subscribed to your channel. Wish you well.
Yes! I'm starting 1 now
Thank you, really helpful.
I am a 68 year old man who is trying to start a book club. I also don't see why we don't have men starting them, and I have 4 men and 4 women who will join. I think we will primarily use zoom, but will also have some irl. Thanks for the good tips. How long should we wait between meetings ?
Great advice!
Thanks for the tips!!!!
Louis: I'm having my book-club, come join Peter
Peter: OK!!!
What is the dinamic of the session?
How lomg is it?
How d u start it?
What questions d u ask?
Super useful Chandler - I like your comment about trivia, especially 🥳
I recently started an online bookclub but we are looking to meet soon.
Very Good Advice! Thank you!
no i don't, i've been planning on doing it. it's just hard to get around to it. Thanks for the video i appreciate ppl like you posting very informative info.
Same
I think book clubs allows one to actually read more books.
we just had our first meeting and it is so exciting; bought 2 books already in one month
I made my own book club and there are mainly women. It is so hard to keep participation going. It's on FB with all people from the neighbour and we meet monthly and all it's good but out of 145 who joined, only about 10 manage to come to the meeting. Any advice?
Thanks i just started one ☺️
This is great. Do you have any suggestions for discussion questions?
Hey Chandler, I just found your video whilst doing research for the male book club I'm setting up and found it pretty interesting what you said.
It's me and some friends from different groups, as well as a friend or two of theirs that I'm not really acquainted with. As a few of us live in different parts of the country it's a virtual book club, we have our first discussion next month on fb Messenger, discussing Fight Club (breaking the first and second rule, I know). I decided to set this group up myself out of frustration because I couldn't find a book group that suited my needs, but I also was wondering why there are so few male book groups.
Great video and information. Thank you.
You can meet at a hotel 😂😂😂 I’m not sure if I have this kind of book club because I find parts in books that stand out and read only that and share something new every day... but the tips were still very helpful! Thanks
Love the tips!! Really helped!!
I just started one on facebook. I'm nervous 😳. Our first book is Rebecca lol
How do you get the shy members of the group to participate and feel comfortable speaking their idea?
Thanks for the tips!
Go to BookPeople! They have all the things!
Just found this. Hope to make an on-line book club. Maybe I’ll be one of the few male-lead clubs.
It definitely takes a lot more work to convince even my dad (who recommended all of the great scifi classics to me when I was a teenager) to pick up a fiction book.
thanks
I will try
Never been part of a book club. Prager U starting a national one for conservatives. Need tips about how you can get a hold of the book needed without spending 20 bucks a book and return to not clutter a 1500 sq ft home. I can't read the latest and greatest only what I find at the library or thru Hoopla.
Awesome tips
I just started my own book club so thank u very much for the tips!! It currently has 32 members and I’m kinda scared for it not to succeed.
If you're still doing it... I'm interested
@@ReignBeauxStar unfortunately I stopped
thank you so much all your advice's... fist time creating a book club for middle school
Thanks for the video
I am a teenager thinking of starting a book club for other teenagers , it's just that there aren't really many people I know of my age who genuinely like reading books and would want to invest time talking about them. So if anyone of you is interested, do tell me .
Hi lady.....also while you are relaxing, READ: Apartheid's Insanity and Stupidity By Mateu Nonyane...available on AMAZON and TAKEALOT. Thank you in advance.
Men don't read lol so we rarely do bookclubs. I want to make a book club but I don't really get it even after watching this great video.
I started an online book clubs.
I plan to set one up soon and girly.... no there is so many books out there for guys to read.
I too want to start an online book club or join an existing one. Anyone interested in this?
im trying to make a book club
I'm watching this video for tips for a book club I'm starting that will likely be a lot of guys (Federalist Papers and beer)
I gotta say chandler at the half of the video I kept imagine women in summer hats whos drinking tea and talking about the book they read
and then you brought that subject up,I mean I guess that guys do get togther and talk about book thier read but I think they probly do it in a podcast or someting like
and I definitely gonna go a sotra hippie book store that I know and ask if they have a book clud
My theory is that guys have trouble nailing down plans--true or false? I think the organizing the group meeting is just less natural. It's not that guys wouldn't want to talk about the books. It's the actual logistics of finding a time and a place that everyone will commit to. I could be wrong about that though.
