PMQs: Boris Johnson goes fully mental after Keir Starmer lists examples of Tory sleaze

  • Boris Johnson and Keir Starmer clashed in the most furious session of prime minister's questions in our memory. In fact, we've never seen Boris Johnson behave like that, well, ever.
Moments before PMQs began the Electoral Commission revealed it had opened an investigation into the makeover of Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds' Downing Street flat, stating: "There are reasonable grounds to suspect that an offence or offences may have occurred."
And, after Starmer listed examples of "Tory sleaze" in his final question, Johnson went apopleptic.

Tosh well for once Johnson did give an unequivocal reply , and the interesting response that if you have lied you will be obliged to resign , I can well believe this is something Johnson would say , and he has lied in the past , this is on record. If Starmer has evidence I would think it would be revealed just before the elections on the 6th May , but maybe it’s not up to him and from Dominic Cummings who has his own agenda. It was interesting that Michael Gove denial was curiously specific to the cabinet meeting and not to an outburst overheard in the Pm office, but you are quite right , it remains to be proven

They haven't 'built 244,000 homes in the last year'.
I quote the BBC: 'The most recent figure for the number of homes built in England was 148,620 for the whole of 2020.
The figure of 244,000 is for the number of net additional dwellings in England between April 2019 and March 2020.
That was a record for the last 30 years.
But that's not just homes built - net additional dwellings is a broad definition reflecting new houses completed, plus gains or losses from conversions, changes of use and demolitions and even some caravans and house boats.
[the next bit seems quite important]
It should also be said that very few of the new homes are being built by government - 82% of the completions were from private enterprise, 17% from housing associations and 1% from local authorities.'
So he's talking out of his ass, again, about what his government has supposedly "achieved".

    • @redbloodcell4047
      @redbloodcell4047 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You'll find that when you look into any of the statistics Boris trots out in Parliament you see either outright lies or half-truths. He attributes the successes of the nation to his own party, even when they have legislated against it. They claimed they increased the number of food banks in the country, a direct result of their damaging austerity policies. They claim they've reduced or will reduce unemployment, failing to mention that their method involves shunting people into completely unfit sectors and stripping them of benefits if they cannot work. I've even heard Priti Patel claim shoplifting dropped massively during 2020 and 2021 - only glazing over the fact that many shops on the high street were shut due to Covid, while some others had literal bouncers on the doors. In other words nothing to do with the government's policies and more a sort of "silver lining" to an otherwise dire situation.

Johnson then goes on stating that it was a difficult time and difficult decisions were needed. By that he implicitly defends the statement he just said he hadn’t made.

Now we know what would have happened if Johnson had had the guts to face Nicola Sturgeon in the run-up to the 2019 General Election:
She would have relentlessly pushed him on subjects he was too afraid to talk about, until he snapped and lost it, like he has here, on Scottish Television. He would have gone into full insecure rant mode, the Scottish Tories would have panicked off-stage, and Sturgeon would have made Johnson look like the arrogant, insecure, spoilt brat that he actually is.

I'm a member of the British people and I would like to know the answer to the question. When did you pay for the refurbishment Boris? Was it before or after somebody else paid for it first? If it was after who first footed the bill and why did you then pay for it? Simple questions and if you gave an honest answer I could make up my own mind if the truth bothered me. As it is I'm filling the blanks myself and the answers do not look good.
A great job has been done by NHS, volunteers, councils, universities and many others in rolling out the vaccine and some of your other 'wins' are good too. The UK government has still not committed to supporting in full the costs of remedying defective cladding and insulation in apartment blocks for which building companies are responsible, but are so far unwilling to repair or replace or pay. This gives the lie to Johnson's claim about a government committed to providing decent homes for its people.
Starmer is right to press Johnson on the subject of donations. Given that the donor has secured lucrative contracts and is seeking to do so again, the funds received and used to settle refurbishment costs can be seen as a means to obtain access, influence and preferential treatment in relation to public procurement. That this was attempted behind closed doors seeking to avoid scrutiny and accountability indicates not only a contempt by Johnson for the Nolan values, the ministerial code and public procurement rules but also a willingness to shovel public money into private hands in return for political support. The corruption could scarcely be more blatant.

My guess is that, like me, you are a tax payer? If so, like me, you have no say in the amount of tax you pay and would suffer a custodial sentence if you decided not to.
Whether you like it or not this government has shown time and time again they provide preferential treatment for their friends using the tax money that you and I pay. If you're argument is "yea, but the other side" then it makes you look like you're happy to hang off the coat tails of a government that thinks very little of you and would go as far as to defend their actions.

Your response is evidence enough that, for you, the party you vote for can do anything it likes because it all boils down to left Vs right.
It's widely accepted that the late actions this government took contributed to needless deaths and we know now what BoJo said about "letting the bodies pile high" shows how little he cares for the well-being of the citizens who put him in his position.
To him (the leader of the country) British citizens other than his chums are expendable in this pandemic and yet you still can't bring yourself to call out any wrongdoing.
I couldn't care which party is behaving badly, I'll call it out when I see it. You are the problem in this country as your defence of the indefensible purely on the basis of "its your side" leads to a race to the bottom in parliamentary standards when we should expect more.
