I can't emphasize the last point strongly enough. These anime players are so used to opening up someone within 8 seconds of starting their blockstring. After that, they usually start getting desperate and throw out some crazy -8 stuff in an attempt to open you up. Great vid! Learned a lot!
Should have mentioned that better opponents will sometimes choose to end pressure after f.L by either walking back (baiting reversals / looking for jump outs) or doing something like f.L > 2M / 5M / 5H (looking to counterhit a challenge attempt / ending their turn / buffering some safe on block special like Djeeta 214L to make sure they get a combo). Challenging the 66L reset like in this video can convince the opponent to do this more instead of trying to take their turn back, and thus introduces more options for the defender. Suddenly their turns end a lot faster and you can get back to trying to escape the corner instead of betting your life on pressing buttons. TLDR of all this; mashing is a fundamental part of defense and it makes blocking stronger.
If the person is spamming that pressure over and over, you can be confident that they're vulnerable to reversals after the dash hit. They won't have time to mixup the jab. You can also look for the beginning of the dash to confirm a super. As far as invincible reversals go, it's important to not be too obvious when you're going to do it. Catch two in a row and they'll be too afraid to keep the pressure up. Or don't punish them at all so you can catch them with a super when they get too overconfident in it.
Thank you for the guide! Actually, super helpful. I've actually taken a liking to just defending like you told me. That way I can see what kind of options the opponent likes use. I might lose that round, but I'll get them the next!
No worries I am glad it helped you :). Yeah It starts to feel really good when you opponent can't open you up some matches I sit there and just practice defence lol. That is the best way to look at it honestly the amount of matches where I have been overwhelmed in the first round then after slowing it down and seeing what my opponent wants to do only to then turn it around and win it really is the best way.
good points but even the few options have massive flaws and are aways on favor of the person doing 66L trying to contest it might get you hit with a raging strike on the corner if your opponent knows that you will do that which will take pretty much 50%+ of your life on ALL characters in corner trying to dp they can still block it which leads to the same thing
100% the risk reward is not in favour of the defender one bit, I imagine balancing will adjust certain aspects of it in the future. It is good know your options over time your can get better at the mind game :)
This is true, 2L and reversal are risky options, but if you don't represent any of them ever, then your opponent is free to keep running their offense. If you can force them to commit to f.M or some other far poke after the 66L>f.L to try to frame trap your 2L, they then risk losing their turn if you just block it. Same with dp, it forces your opponent to stop their pressure if they want to call it out, which you can then exploit by not dping the next time and taking your turn when they stop to block. Blocking only becomes strong once you force them to commit to risky options themselves or ending their turn if they guess wrong. It also loses to strike/throw or more grimy mix-ups that rely on you not calling out bigger gaps in pressure. By representing mashing or dp, even if it's only every once in a while, you make them second guess leaving those gaps in there to exploit, which means they're more likely to just keep spamming plus on block mids which you can then block easily. Obviously, if they only do plus on block mids and nothing else, block it all day every day if you have a life lead. But if they start trying to sneak in a grab or other mixup with bigger gaps, you're going to want to try to call them on it so they second guess doing it next time.
To an extent this is true but being patient in situations can give you some time to assess what might be the best option for you to take I have found in my experience anyway.
Yeah sticking out 2L is a really great way to keep your opponent honest and show them you are willing to contest, they can start to bait it out but if you notice they are you can start pressing with your own pressure.
Another commenter mentioned this and said it is a viable option I was having some trouble with it but I will take it to the lab and see what I can do :)
So I haven't tested it but since 66L is plus on block I feel that those moves would pose a threat so you could call them out with a grab but I think if your opponent is doing that it would be better to jump out of the pressure as those two moves have a high commitment so it would be a free way out of the pressure. Also I might be wrong but I think Charlotta's side swaps so if you get hit by that at least you aren't in the corner anymore so I would see that as a win :)
I will have to test this I have found rolling or using evade in this situation a bit risky but I will check it out in the lab thanks for pointing out :)
note on brave counter, while great, every pip down means more damage taken, id only recommend brave counter when you feel confident on turning the tide, IE: you have all cooldowns/meter up. i wouldnt do it after blowing a EXDP or something lol.

It is amazing what opponents will try sometimes when you just act a bit more patient haha. Thank you I am glad you found it helpful :)

Great video i never know when to take my turn back. Also great music choice outset island is my favorite track from wind waker haha
Thank you so much I am glad you found it helpful :). Cheers aha I also love this song reminds me of my childhood haha
oooh you have to wait for the second hit, I was trying to attack after the dash attack and getting blown up
Great, concise guide!
Thanks so much I am glad it helped :)
Stellar stellar video!
Thank you so much I am glad you liked it :)
Thankyou so much this helped me kill the final boss

@@rahzaelfoe3288exactly, you have to show them that you have options to stop them. That way they'll stop for you more often than not.
Problem is that you get pushed to the corner for free by just taking it. Corner is mad scary in rising.
To an extent this is true but being patient in situations can give you some time to assess what might be the best option for you to take I have found in my experience anyway.
Thanks needed that
No worries, I am glad it helped :)
more of this pls 👍
Got a few more in the works and I am looking at certain characters for match up guides but I am glad this helped :)
ah I didn't know it was light that did the bad tech!
I'll be sure to be pressing L more in pressure rather than other buttons exceot reversals obv

What about spot dodge?
Another commenter mentioned this and said it is a viable option I was having some trouble with it but I will take it to the lab and see what I can do :)
Can Charlotte/Katalina spam U to counter after get hit by 66L ?

idk about katalina but charlotta's U counter has 5f startup and will get blown up by any 6f moves after 66L
and Don't use kat's because the followups will get blown up
You can roll them too
I will have to test this I have found rolling or using evade in this situation a bit risky but I will check it out in the lab thanks for pointing out :)
@@LordOfAllSwine spot dodging is mostly a miss but can catch them off guard. Rolling 66L has been very reliable.
Okay thanks for letting me know I will test it in the lab :)
Ty, i am stuck in S because of this shit.
sure you are
How did you make it to S without knowing this 🤦🏽♂️
No worries I hope it helps :)
@@dimex3362 I made it to master and I still struggle with 66L at times. I understand the struggle.

Yes this is true I forgot to mention about the health penalty thanks for pointing it out :)
Only after the first. So you get one "free" and in the next one you take more damage.
