Some thought when Slipknot entered the scene thinking that the masks and boiler suits are just a gimmick, but at the end of the day the music spoke for it self
Sleep Token writes incredible music, and puts on an astonishing show. Ghost isn't my thing. ST are since 2016 and they sounded like something different back then.
look. we are not a rock band, we are entities who must glorify an eldrich being known as Sleep. we are damned, that is why everything is so dark and morbid. goths and emos aren't nearly as dark and scary as we are because they are a simple human rock band. we are a human rock band that has transcended simple! you can not fathom the depths of our despair. stare into the abyss to our extensive catalogue of cleverly written popular love songs. like share and subscribe for more evil love songs.
i like sleep token, but their music gets boring to me. the guy's vocals are performed in the same cadence a lot, like... he's habitually pitching woo. so many of the songs are him trying endlessly to score with some female. the music is cool, but the vocals are ...well i just have to assume he never succeeds.why are there so many courting songs lol. settle down on sleep token. they're pretty good, but a lot of their songs are pretty weak. i wonder why the whole stage show? was it to get them by some gatekeeper that wouldn't notice their music for what it is or what?
he's great at some stuff. really unique, but then there are things that i think he doesn't do well. i think he overuses that speech cadence without meaning to. it seems kind of like a habit that he falls into subconsciously during long vocals that are spoken more than sung at full volume. to my ears, it makes several of their tracks start to resemble one another uncomfortably. i'm not saying plagiarism, i think maybe they just didn't practice those songs long enough for them to all become distinct from one another before recording them.(just a guess at it) it would kind of explain why his song writing feels preoccupied with seducing unnamed women. maybe he wrote all those songs on the same cuckold weekend retreat or something. sleep token remind me of like the reanimated remains of John Mayer that just crawled out of a well, high on molly. and they brought a good drummer.

complex original music works better.
