This was a great topic and well said! I love dancing and always have! Especially afrobeat, old school hip hop moves to joke, two step etc I think it is important for us to be wise about what type of dance moves we do that may cause someone to stumble sexually/feel uncomfortable. My father is Ghanaian so I do understand that sometimes we don’t see it as suggestive due to our culture. At the same time as you mentioned, there are certain moves I will not do/ or will modify in public/ or around men lol Having yo remember we are a witness. I had to stop going to a Afrobeat class because more men were coming ( which is great because I love seeing that men love to dance! Especially traditional African moves/afrobeat) and I became uncomfortable with whining my hips and going low etc I became convicted. There’s definitely a balance! Again great video sis as always! God bless!
Thanks Sis! Its important to keep going back to Scripture and not just brush everything off because of culture. I think fellow sisters in Christ can be helpful in this regard. Good to have a friend that will say hmmm too much girl 😂
That was interesting! What seems sexual to one culture can be not so much for another - Iranian dancing is another example. But then you could argue that actually ceilidh dancing was more of an issue, because it's done in (usually) male/female couples - does that mean it's sexual? Again, no I don't think so, but it also is something that could go that way, and I have occasionally felt uncomfortable when dancing with someone else's husband (not that anyone was doing anything inappropriate, to clarify). Of course, for my grandparents' generation it was simple: Christians didn't dance. But that seems to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
Haha yes that's true never actually thought about Ceilidhs from that perspective. I think when you're entering another culture its important to pick up on these things and notice your own biases without violating your conscience
This was great!! Thank you for talking about this, and good principle of asking if it's something you'd be comfortable doing when Jesus returns 😊
Glad it was helpful 👍🏾Keeping Christ at the forefront is always a great place to start.
