I remember reading about this when it happened in a Transworld mag (R.I.P.) and feeling a lot of sympathy for him because he had always seemed like such a chill dude. How skateboarding can be a window into people’s heart and soul.

Lol it's unusual that someone is unique enough looking that one can be certain that it was them and not somebody else, but in this case I have no doubt in my mind I'd recognize that guy if I saw him outside right now. I'm not even sure why, dude's just got a unique look

It doesn't matter how tough u are, prison in Brazil has to scare the hell outta anyone.
Prison is general should scare anyone , anywhere..
But yeah , getting locked up in a south american country must be hell.

@@reza_dc2 What? The purpose of prison is not to punish people. The purpose of prison is to _rehabilitate_ people. It doesn't help to make their life a living nightmare. In an ideal world, prison wouldn't be scary. There's no need for it to be scary, is there? The terribleness of prison is not a very good deterrent to crime anyway.
Of course, Brazil has more pressing issues to deal with right now. That's kinda _always_ the problem though.. people in prison can't vote, and thus campaigning to treat them better isn't going to make you all that popular, which means the issue never gets better (which is understandable in a way I guess: there are millions of non-prisoners on earth who are being treated horribly too, what about them?). Maybe someday!

I did two years in an American prison, age 19-21 and I did the same thing writing for other inmates. Most people develop a hustle on the inside like cutting hair or tattoos, maybe washing clothes (if they're not already forced to wash clothes for another inmate. I'm a writer and I teamed with up someone who drew tattoos and we started a "greeting card" company of sorts and we did pretty well. The inmates would tell me a few personal details like a night they spent together or their favorite movie, stuff like that and I'd write love letters and poetry then the artist would draw the card and write the words in fancy lettering.

that's really sweet man! I'm sure a lot of the dudes really appreciated that! I mean, I just assume most prisons don't have a greeting card team (lol), and I'm sure a lot of people in prison probably aren't typically the most amazing poets (although they might be I guess, idk!).

ive seen some crazy ass documentaries on natural geographic where people get arrested for anything at the airport and if they get shipped back to hometown.. or whatever. they dont ever get out lol. even if they didnt do anything.

11 years down the drain though…I’ve grown my hair out for the last 9 years and I would be heartbroken if someone shaved it off.
I read an article about it and he had a neat perspective. He was basically like "yeah I knew this was gonna suck because I love my hair. Plus, my hair is a symbol of my faith. But it was ok because my faith isn't on my head, its inside of me. And my hair is already growing back anyway!"
I'm not religious myself, but I thought that was a really neat way of looking at it.

Being thrown in jail sucks…they removed all my piercings which sucks cutting those dreads had to be gnarly though same thing basically happened to me just different. Dude died in the cell next to me was nuts.

they say the same thing about getting your hair cut in the military..it is for hygiene. Which it must be a untrue, because then why don't they shave women's heads as well. And no beards for men (for a number of reasons) including being able to put on a gas mask, but now they allows beards for certain groups for religious purposes.
I heard somewhere that they started shaving heads in the military in the old days so the enemy couldn't grab your hair and attack you or slit your throat, not sure if that is true
It’s actually for stripping your individualism. Jail does it too. Because you’re not looked at as a person but property or a number.

Flight Risk. The very word risk is speculative. Speculation is not admissible in a court of law. If someone else has a chance at bail you should always have a chance at bail and you should never just accept what these court actors say.
