After 20 years as a Protestant (with several of those years being minister)...I'm in the process of converting to Greek Orthodoxy. In regard to my spiritual life: I have never felt more optimistic. The deep seeded mysticism profoundly resonates with who I am. It makes me feel like I've come home to something that's new...but yet irrevocably familiar.

    Dear unknown sister,
Thank you so mutch for sharing your beatufull story! You've tuched me.
And yes, you've feeled right: the mysticism is what we have, and what they all don't.
But don't say you were dead. You were thinking and searching. Dead is someone who doesn't search. Greetings to your parents for giving you the basic of Faith. The rest you did it, and Lord has finished it great.
Just keep what you got and do it more and more Divine Light for solvation first of all your family.
And let the love of Holly Mother of God be with you!
Greetings from St. Mountain of Athos!

Since to great Peter Christ our Lord gave the office of Chief Shepherd
after entrusting him with the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, to Peter or
his successor must of necessity every novelty in the Catholic Church

those with whom he has been at variance, if it is impossible that
representatives of the other patriarchs should be present, a thing which
might certainly be if the Emperor should wish the Western Patriarch (the
Roman Pope) to be present, to whom is given authority over an
ecumenical synod; but let him make peace and union by sending his

I dont take Divine Liturgy for granted while present. Its impossible. But yes, those of us lucky to be born in orthodoxy do sometimes take our faith for granted because its always been there. While the aww of people, expiriencing it for the first time, sounds beautiful when they explain it.
There is the oposite feeling when we hear joel osteen and his ilk. The obvious deceptions, shallowness, pure abomination leaves me in the state of pure disbelief. Then I get to apriciate Gods will to be born where I was.

I was moved to hear your story. I myself was born in a Christian Orthodox family, which i today consider to be a blessing. Growing up, i was never the "religious" person who goes to Church every Sunday and my only relationship with God (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit) was a short prayer every night before bed. Around the age of 18, a book found its way into my hands (not a school book!). I hated books, but i felt a little curious and a little obliged (being a Christian) to read at least a page or 2. I couldn't stop reading! It was the beginning of a new life for me, where my point of view on God changed. He was no longer the God i should fear, nor the unknown, unreachable God i had grown up to believe He was.
The book is a collection of words and events from the life of a monk who passed away in 1994 and was officially declared a Saint by the Orthodox Church on January 13, 2015.
His name is Elder Paisios and i highly recommend reading about him! You could start with this:
"With pain and love for contemporary man"
    The series continues with:
    "Spiritual awakening" and
    "Spiritual struggle"
Also, written by Saint Paisios himself:
"Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian" (also in French, German, Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Korean, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Finnish)
    God bless!

That is exactly what happened to me in Armenia. Though I come from an orthodox heritage (Greek Orthodox from Jordan), I grew up lost and for many years going from church to church because my mom was catholic and my father converted to Protestantism before i was born ( he is back to his senses now thank goodness) and there was a lot of conflict around religion for me also which drove me to very dark places in general. But that which you describe, the moment in an instant you know just as clear as the sun in the sky when you walk into the church, are given the blessing by the priest or take part of the Eucharist You simply KNOW you found truth. Everything changes. It has been an amazing journey for me coming back home. God bless. If you ever get the chance I invite you to witness the miracle of the Holy Fire in Jerusalem on Easter, it is a miracle that only responds to the Orthodox Patriarch.

Like you mentioned above, when your dead and everyone around you is dead it's time to get the butt into gear! My husband and I are considering converting to Orthodox. We are non-denominational Protestant and grew up that way but are so tired of the mega church businesses and haven't matured in our faith even though we've been Christian our entire lives. I'm really digging into Orthodox and I am so fascinated by it. We also want to be apart of the true church that is the most Biblically-accurate. I know that no church is flawless, but for peace of mind we would like to be apart of a church that is true to the scriptures.

I came to orthodoxy over 20 years ago. Now I am a monk priest . I was chosen to be the exorcist in our holy monastery and I have seen many things over the years. I converted from roman Catholic because I found out the truth about saint peter still being the rock of the orthodox church and the true rock being Christ Jesus our lord God and savior , and what that really means , I understood the truth about the 7 counsels in early 300 ad. And how holy tradition and apostolic succession is only in holy orthodoxy .I was angry because I felt lied to all these years from the roman Catholics who made me believe Orthodox church departed from the church , and were looked at by Rome as the , " SEPARATED BRETHREN " HOW WRONG THEY WERE , THE TRUTH WAS THEY DEPARTED AND WERE ANATHEMATIZED EXPELLED FROM HOLY ORTHODOXY ! THEY CONTINUE TO NOT TELL THE TRUTH TO THIS DAY ! I THINK THE PROTESTANTS HAVE MORE OF A CHANCE BECOMING ORTHODOX THAN ROMAN CATHOLICS ! ANY WAY , AS A PRIEST AND AN EXORCIST I LEARNED THAT GOD WILL GUIDE ALL THOSE TO THE TRUE FAITH OF HOLY ORTHODOXY IF ANYONE TRULY SEARCHES FOR JESUS CHRIST . IF ANYONE WANTED TO BE A CHRISTIAN DURING THE FIRST 1000 YEARS OF CHRISTIANITY THEY WOULD BE AN ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN , BECAUSE THAT WAS , AND IS THE ONE TRUE CHURCH AND FAITH , THERE WAS NO OTHER CHRISTIAN CHURCH OR FAITH , UNLIKE TODAY ! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU IN JESUS NAME FATHER+SON+AND HOLY SPIRIT + AMEN +++ JESUS IS LORD !

YOU CAN READ THE BOOK BY BISHOP KALISTOS WARE " INTRODUCTION TO THE ORTHODOX CHURCH " ! AND THE BOOK " ONE BAPTISM " ! IN ORTHODOXY ALL BISHOPS ARE EQUAL . THEY WERE FIRST CALLED CHRISTIANS IN ANTIOCH AND IF YOU READ THESE BOOKS THEY WILL EXPLAIN MORE IN DETAIL .I CAN TELL YOU THAT ONCE THE POPE OF ROME WAS EXPELLED FROM ORTHODOXY HE LOST HIS ABILITY TO CONTINUE IN SUCCESSION OF THE HOLY APOSTLE PETER . BECAUSE IN ORTHODOXY THE HOLY TRADITION SAYS YOU MUST STAY IN COMMUNION WITH THE REST OF THE PATRIARCHS TO BE CONSIDERED VALID ! AND THERE ARE MANY MORE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS IN THE ORTHODOX CANNONS A BOOK CALLED THE HOLY RUDDER ! YOU CAN START BY LOOKING UP VIDEOS ON TH-cam CALLED " HISTORY OF THE GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH ! AND INTRODUCTION TO GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH ! WATCH THESE VIDEOS TO START THEN READ THE BOOKS ! THEN YOU WILL KNOW WHAT HOLY SAINT PETER THE APOSTLE MEANS TO THE HOLY ORTHODOX CHURCH!

I was the first born son into a Masonic family. As you all may remember, Satan loves paying firstborn sons special attention. Almost perished in the occult and roc came across a book called The soul after death by Father Seraphim Rosek n roll, I met the lord in a pentacostal setting. While I knew rather quickly that church was nuts, I still knew I met the Lord. Church hopping ensued. As well as book devouring. I finally found a book caale the soul after death by Father Seraphim Rose. I looked at it suspiciously and checked to see if it was Catholic. Nope, this guys a Russian Orthodox Monk. Palm Sunday 2005 I recieved the sacrement of baptism, after a yr of catechism classes, into St Martins Russian Orthodox Church. I needed the true church if I wanted rescue from the occult. I have left some disturbing details out of this testimony as I'd rather not relive them.

Welcome to Orthodoxy! I converted to the Old Calendar Orthodox Church 15 years ago after searching for the truth throughout my twenties. I feel that Orthodoxy is a hidden treasure that many Western Christians have not discovered. It's wonderful to know that the Orthodox Church has not adulterated the doctrine and the Holy Traditions of Christ's Church, mentioned in the New Testament. Christians need to search for the Truth, ask questions, pray and the Holy Spirit will guide them to this glorious treasure...the Orthodox Church. May God have mercy on all of humanity. Blessings!

I've recently reverted to Orthodoxy, I live in Britain and orthodoxy is the church with the most in common with the pre 1066 church in these islands and particularly with the early Celtic church. Orthodoxy is the only church that actively challenges post modernism and the spread of Islam into the vacuum left by the collapse of Christianity in our society.

    • @HarryFlashmanVC
      @HarryFlashmanVC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The politicalisation of the Anglican church since its foundation and its complete surrender to modern PC vapidity has resulted in congregations collapsing. When the provost of Glasgow cathedral allowed a Muslim to sing a Koranic verse that specifically denies the divinity of Christ , in an Assumption day service of all times was the nail in the coffin for me.

  • @poisonparadise13

Thanks for this video, it really struck a chord with me. I'm Roman Catholic but I have problems with a lot of the innovations in doctrine in the west, and I've dabbled in high Anglicanism as a non-papal church with beautiful, historic liturgy, but that still felt deficient. Orthodoxy is beautiful but has always seemed alienating if you don't come from the culture of the particular Church, but at it's core I think it has preserved the authentic apostolic faith and once you've experienced the real thing, nothing else will do.

Why Old Calendar? I cannot say I chose the Old Calendar Orthodox Church but rather God led me there. After researching the history of the Church and learning of the schism in 1924, I truly believed it is the correct place of worship. The Old Calendar Church is not a "business" where money and self-glory are evident, rather it is poor, humble, it is a house of God where Christians come together to unite with Christ our Saviour. And that's the main goal for Christians, to unite with God, here on Earth and in eventually in Heaven. Christ established His Church here on earth in order to help guide us to Him. Christ instructed St. Peter to build His Church and the Holy Sacraments and Traditions of the Church are of great importance for our journey to salvation. Glory to God!

@ВЪ НAЧAЛЋ БЋ СЛОВО Are you referring to the inquisitions? Yes, the earliest Christians killed imposters of the early Church such as Muslims and Jews who pretended to be “Christian” for their own political gain. These individuals were secretly trying to lead Christians astray while in the Church and were killed under Pope Lucius III
What does this suggest? There was bad leadership in the early Church which can still be seen today.
This does not denounce that the Catholic Church is the only Church Jesus Christ established.
The Church is operated by sinners like you & I, and therefor will always have imperfections. However, the teachings will never change and have been divinely protected for over 2,000 years.

Orthodox, since they have kept unaltered the faith once delivered by the Apostles, contrary to roman-catholicism that introduced dozens of heresies and innovations, totally unknown in the early Church.
