    Ive spent so many frustrating hours researching solar for my van conversion and this is the best video Ive seen for beginners. Thanks for explaining clearly how each part works in sync with the others so anyone can understand how to do this. I will definitely purchase my basic solar kit from your website.

    Not sure if anyone mentioned it but you should also include solar breakers between the charge controller and the solar panels. And probably a battery cut off switch for the battery between the large fuse and the charge controller on the positive cable. Just more precautions.

    You mentioned connecting your 2x 100w 12v panels in series, wouldn’t that make it 24v? I thought since the controller and batteries are 12v, it’s better to keep the panels the same. Could you be able to explain why series was done for this example? Thanks!

    I am currently learning about solar energy and have yet to build my first basic solar system, so this video comes handy. I see that you have added 2 fuses, 1 between the charge controller and battery and 1 between the inverter and battery. I am aware this is not a complex setup, but would it be advisable to add circuit breakers in addition to the fuses (or in place of the fuses) to help break the circuit for maintenance or protect the circuit in case a component develops a fault (just like a fuse would do)?
    If circuit breakers are to be added, what types would you recommend, in terms of amperage, etc. based on your circuit design, and where would you install them on the circuits? Thanks.

    Hello. I'm considering buying one of your kits, but was wondering if there is charge controller available that could also take an incoming 120v line from "the grid", so it could still charge the batteries if/when the batteries are drained at night (basically self switching between solar and house power)
    I have a little pump house for my water pump, and I'd like to convert it to solar, but don't wanna loose functionality at night if it can't charge.

    How would you do this in a tent trailer? I’m thinking of setting up my area underneath my dinette seat. Do you recommend the battery inside the dinette seat with the inverter, charge controller and a kill switch? I’ll connect my electrical to the inverter, and thinking of taking the electrical cable out and put an solar extension cable there to our 2 solar panels (we don’t camp where there is electrical hookups) and then we can put the kill switch on when we are packing up I don’t want the solar panels on the roof, I rather have them tilted in the sunlight :)
    (Don’t worry there is no water system in my tent trailer! I took that out already) :)

    • @donclowers7666
      @donclowers7666 ปีที่แล้ว

      The load output on controllers I’ve seen are still 12v. I have a smaller shed setup where I have a 300 watt inverter connected to the load output. I like it because of the battery falls too low, the load shuts off, I don’t have to watch and do it. I’ve seen in other videos where it is not recommended to be done that way with larger inverters.

    • @ronb6182
      @ronb6182 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to put a lead between two 12 volt batteries. With that said I don't know if the charge controller can control that type of set-up. Also you would need to equal out the loads between the two batteries. You do not want to drain one battery and leave the other unused.

    I’d like to see what % of the battery was left after running that jig saw for 5 seconds.. 100AH battery with a 2000 watt inverter trying to run small power tools would probably get you 2-3 mins of run time before your battery is drained completely. A lot of people think you can run these tools off a 100AH or less battery using a 1500-2000 watt inverter but it doesn’t work that way. They end up ruining their batteries because theoretically they need 400-800AH at minimum to run AC appliances such as a circular saw etc.

      Yeah this is a problem Im facing setting up my own system. I want it to be able to run a small ac and some lights for hours at a time, but I’m not sure how to set it up so that the panels provide enough continuous power for the battery to stay charged.

      I can run my 19-in flat screen TV on my 1,000-W inverter and two 12-volt 13-watt bulbs which are 60 watt equivalent I believe for 2 days straight without charging the battery before it stops working. It then takes my 100-W panel 2 days of sun to bring things back to normal. I've also got a 12-volt fridge in the mix and I've got no issues with my hundred amp hour battery.

      The inverter will draw current from battery even if you do not have any load connected to the AC outlet, according to the spec of the 2000W 12V inverter, it will draw about 2A which is about 24W, so if you leave the inverter on, it will use 24W x 24 hr = 576Wh from your battery so if you have 1000Whr of battery capacity, it will run your battery down in about two days just by having it on with no load.

    Like 300 watts better than 100 Watts. With 100 watt solar panels you need ever so many solar panels to make one kilowatt you need 10 100 watt solar panels to get the power you need from solar panels from 100 watt solar panels you're in at least need 40 to 72 solar panels that are 100 Watts that's not feasible for most people when they don't get that room I like 300 w solar panels because that's less solar panels you have to have I like 350 w solar panels because they're better because now two solar panels at 350 Watts at 700 Watts they see the difference instead of having to have seven solar panels to make 700 Watts now you only need two solar panels at 350 watts to make 700 Watts that's more efficient I don't watch her less efficient and take up more space.

    Those Extension Cables, to the Panels10 AWG ?, are only Good for 100 Watts at 20 ft Maximum, No more Watts, or Amps. Two, 100 Watt Panels, is Twice as many as its Rated for ! I have 4 -115 Watt Renogy Bifacial Panels Ordered, and Bought one of those Cables from Renogy for Extension, Only To Find Out that its one $23 dollar Cable, Not Two, and Useless. I will Be Putting My Controller Near The Array !!! I would need 4 sets of those Cables for 4 panels, at over 20 dollars for One Cable, times 8 for four Panels. The Charts are hard to Find that include Watts, Amps and Ft for AWG 12 Volt Wiring. I suggest You Find one ! This is a common Mistake on TH-cam Soler aray Set Ups ... 12 AWG Cables are Wors !
