This is a great training reference for me, when i was learning I asked my master and he said I could use this.

Yes, my teacher back in the days (15 years ago!), who was a disciple of Shi De Cheng, taught me this exact form. The only difference was a ground sweep with the staff before striking downwards in pu bu at 0:33. This sweep was rather specific to him, I guess, since I never saw it in the other executions of this taolu (by Shi De Yang, for example)

Ha, the weather was not bad today and I went over this taolu. It's pretty straightforward, but the two pu bu with the staff sweeps are pretty brutal (at my age). Strangely enough, I never quite got the right momentum to carry them out...

Great - what is the name of this original movie?

It is called Yin Shou Gun : The staff of the left hand, or the staff of the negative hand. Try also the youtube channel "Shaolin Kung Fu" and find the Ye Cha Gun and the Hu Kun Yang ( five tigers kill a flock of sheep ). Another beginner's compatible form is the Shao Huo Gun ( Fire Poker's Staff ). Another beginner's staff from is the Qi Mei, or the eyebrow height.

Just the basic stuff here is so much more advanced then what is taught in western schools.

    • @neaituppi7306
      @neaituppi7306 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Martin Erhard The problem then is you don't know why they are doing what they do.
I would suggest to just train whatever you are training, and not second guess applications, if you don't understand what is being done.
You won't convince me of anything, because I already know the movements allow for a lot more power without relying on physical strength alone.

    • @neaituppi7306
      @neaituppi7306 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Martin Erhard I don't care about your preaching. I don't have to prove anything to someone that doesn't have the discipline and patience to find out for themselves.
I do this, and it works if you become proficient in it. Which is something largely devoid in western minded martial art training.
If you can't relate to it, fine. But don't try to tell me it is useless, because I know better.

Martin Erhard Dudse. You know you have never even sparred with a Bo Staff, let alone been in a real fight with one.
"I did a lot of martial arts" is the standard way of saying, I have been doing MA off and on since I was 11, but I don't want to mention what they were, because they are completely unrelated to what I am criticizing.
And that has nothing to do with the discipline of learning the Bo Staff until it truly becomes a martial art.
I can do the Bo Staff, but I haven't gotten it to a martial art.
Have you even done the Bo Staff at all?
I have seen Shaolin Monk students doing real, full contact sparring, which they are rarely permitted to do, being Buddhists.
But when they do, it is not the same as what they do in the forms.
They use all the training and applications from the forms, but when they fight, they go hard and fast.
Even though they are Buddhists, they are
modern guys, that if you fuck with them, they will hit back hard, and they have 7 days a week of training and conditioning to back them up.
Look up Kung Fu quest, for Shaolin Kung Fu.
There is a scene where the show talked the abbot into allowing one of the monks to spar with this muscled, 6 foot guy that also trained a lot of Kung Fu.
The monk was half his size.
They sparred in some kind of sitting room.
The monk went all out, he knocked the guy back against the wall, against chairs, nearly knocking over vases.
You can see the 6 foot guy was overwhelmed by it.
Even though he was Asian and had studied Kung Fu for years, he probably thought the monk would be doing flowery dance moves he could easily counter.
All the moves you see are applications. They can work if you train them to be proficient. But they have common sense. They don't try the moves that won't work in the moment of a fight.
They also have conditioning aspects. If you see a boxer hitting a speed bag in a video. Do you say; "That wouldn't work in a real fight!"
The basis of Shaolin Kung Fu is not to seek street fights.
Or train just what you would think is useful in a street fight.
Shaolin Kung Fu is a whole system.
But because the western mindset seeks to control. Instead of just letting other people do what they do, they have to come in and second guess the value of it.
It is not evil, it is just the general awareness of the planet.

Martin Erhard I never cared to prove anything to you. Everything you say is disrespectful and proves that you don't respect what you don't understand.
You can find the video for the Kung Fu quest episode on your own.

There is a place where people learn about subjects before they develop an opinion of what they are about and what they should be about.
