Let me see if I have this correct: you revealed an unlicensed FM station, on a commercial channel, but you "work there." Beyond the nostalgia of the equipment, which may be charming, you are operating a modulated FM carrier without an FCC license. So, what part of pirate radio don't you understand? You are in violation of several FCC regulations all which can and will lead to a federal fine. The FCC will collect their money. Do us all a favor, apply for a license and operate legally. Or, pull the "plate switch."

Well, this turned out better than part one, I was actually upset, started thinking, does this man have nothing better to do, in search of a low key station that's not bothering anyone, I hold a amateur radio license over thirty years, in the beginning built my equipment plus antennas and depending on conditions can reach around the world. the only reason we sought out a station is when they were abusive in language to individuals in the radio community.
Also I worked in the recording Industry, touring as well, mixed many acts, events from small venue to large scale outside festivals, I'm happy to see your part two turned out to be productive with good intent, I especially like that you give artist a chance the opportunity to come an play live and the accommodation you provided for isolation is all swell,
many people may not understand mixing is an Art for LP, CD, AM, FM and Live, Satellite radio I'm not up to date but what I've heard sounds very good.
Good Post, Keep Up The Good Work!

The antennas that are used for broadcast (0:27) are likely the two vertically mounted dipole antennas on the tallest mast, as this would yield the greatest possible coverage area (circular radiation pattern). They are mounted vertically to match polarization of most car (whip) antennas and therefore maximize received signal strength. The two stacked Yagis would have a too narrow of a beam width and wouldn't reach as wide of an audience (although the audience could be a much farther distance).

We also want to drive our cars down the other side of the road and sell beer at high school football games. We might want to start up a hospital and sell cheap operations. We have regulations so people can do this stuff. You're free to do it, but you have to respect that the rest of us have that same right. Hope to hear you someday.

I never really liked it when the DJ talks over the last few seconds of the track because it would screw up many home recorded mix tapes back in the days before the internet that's how we downloaded and made our own compilations. well you can't really call it downloading that's just an analogy that I use for today's modern generations we would just record in real time off of the radio .

@ljstalkr Yes technically if you are a pirate, in this country it is illegal. The FCC limits you to 250uv/m at 3 meters for an unlicensed transmitter. As in a later video we had to shut our 94.5 transmitter down when the FCC complained about it.

  • @raserapps8230
    @raserapps8230 8 ปีที่แล้ว

and NO WAY is a unfunded, illegal pirate radio going to have antennae like those....I do CB and Ham and I can tell you that a Mast AND Antenna like those are serious dollars....like tens of thousands when you look at installation. Only HAM clubs and Commercial Stations are allowed to even buy them. My point being....your average Pirate Radio Shack ISNT going to have gear like that. They will no doubt have some good rigs - transmitters and antennas, but nothing on 'that' scale.
IF they had that sort of money they could just go LEGAL and advertise to make an income....
and another thing....You dont have antennae like those with any old crappy radio transmitters. Only the best gear for the best antennas. I mean you wouldn't go out and buy a £100,000 car, then walk behind it pushing it because you forgot to get an engine to power it....you need the power to transmit....so not only do you need a transmitter, but you need rediculous power generators or additional power supply from the suppliers for commercial use. You can't just plug these huge power generators and transmitters into your puny American 110 Vac wall plugs LMAO

But strange... you search this pirate... and then it turns out you know him... he even let's you play his faderboard.. but you didn't know he had a FM transmitter? Or was it just a prank? It is your own house.. :P

I also do some broadcasting from my home studio, and believe me - all the equipment cost a lot of money! You can set up a very simple radio station for about 400$, but if you want the quality, and professional equipment to manage your radio station with, you got to spend a lot more money. To make it almost as good as the official radio stations, you got to spend thousands of dollars for all the equipment such as; cables, mixers, audio processors, microphones, amp systems, turntables, equalizers and all the other stuff that you need.

Back in my day, WAY back in analog daze, we would cue the record on the turntable and actually turn a pot on console that had big ass knob AFTER select button pushed. This eliminated POP sound when turned on. Turn on, fade up, fade down, turn off. Also had fun too. Teletype machine was running in room right next to studio. We would run in, tear off a UPI or AP feed, and actually read the news LIVE. When you buddy lit the teletype paper you were trying to read with his cigarette lighter, things REALLY got exciting. BOB MICHAELS KNAM Midland Texas 1970 sineing off!!!

I use a Mackie 3204‑VLZ3 for my master console. The cue processes are automated via computers playing MP3 files, CD's, and DAT tape machines.
I operate at 87.9 MHz @ 95 watts LPFM license. I have an STL link via Motorola Starpoint Microwave on 2.2GHz to the transmitter site

Way cool man must have taken you guys a while to set that all up . Whats your broadcasting ratios? How many Watts ? One thing I don't like and never did was when a DJ back in the day would talk over the beginning of a song take Pink Floyd for example the music is just as important "if not more so" than the guy singing and it seemed the DJ's of my teen years "the 80's" figured a song didn't begin till the singing started & that's just wrong, Do you need a license to operate your station ?

thats all the modern stuff you got.... I was a dj back in the early 60's. my first board was a "gates yard mono console"! We used the old spotmasters you locked in place with your fingers. Three tt's, two cart machines, a stand up reel to reel. Rip and read news at the top, spots mostly live read, or directly off ET's! No phoney growling voices, or processors.... Wasent work, just fun. Made 125.00 a week in 1964.. I was rich!!!

I say with much certainty that here in Brazil, many commercial radio stations with 30,000 watts of power or many times, is well below the station studios shown in the video ... Here in Brazil the owners of stations profiting more than $ 100,000 per month and still not investing in quality equipment ... If not broke do not replace and broke who cares, this is the thought dominate here in Brazil. hugs

@p1r4t3z Whatever dude but my engineer did, and that's how I've run ever since. The boards I've run have had plenty of headroom. And I've been a recording engineer for at least 30 years so don't worry, I know what clipping is and what isn't. Chill out, jeezis.

I figured the first one out when you had your equipment on the passenger seat. I suspect you keep it there to keep check of your signal strength. 😀 I would !!! I also think you may have recently received a provisional license. Would I be right?
Oh yea , In the first one you also said" lets find this guy" pretty common phrase, but it being a you tube video, I was convenient it was you. Everyone on youtube is fairly certain of their out comes. Plus you're an older guy in a school parking lot at 12:00 at night. Listening to 80's music looking for a pirate station. 1+1+1= you 😀 Oh yea one more thing, there was no car in the drive way at that time of night. And lights on broadcasting, and no ride in the drive? Odd

(7:20) actually the engineer who trained me on our old Gates board said there's plenty of headroom, just ram it past the red and get some extra compression. So I've always run that way.
    Nice studio, carry on :-)

Well Done. Excellent. In order to fly planes in the late 70's early 80's one needed to obtain an FCC radio operator license (which I still have)...yours is of course much more complicated...

i live in glasgow montana....a town of 2000 people and 1 radio station that plays mostly 80s love ballads....
i havent listened to the radio for 5 years.....unless the car doesnt have usb/aux/shit, even cassette tapes....
ive always wanted to get into ham....and i think i can cover my small town with 10w (ive done a little ham, with others equipment)....
the FCC isnt going to want to drive all the way to montana, should be good lol

Well, looks like you are exceeding the legal 200 foot range for unlicensed FM transmission. Good for you and I hope you have continued success, however, any worries about the goons knocking on your door?

@p1r4t3z eh, don't be too sure about that, my high-school (class of 2010) has 3 dishes, turns out they use those for their internet, company called ESU 10 uses a sat uplink to distribute the service.

Wow how cool is that. Man I would love to have a pirate radio station. Way better then the big corporate stations. They kill a person with a ton of commercials. I don't mind a few but wow even the tv kills you with commercials too. Way to go 🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒

@cars2024 you must conform to to play certain music/artists (e.g mainstream commercial pop, sony, emi, etc) in order to get a license
