    Looks like a lot of Belgians . I absolutely love how much heart and drive these horses have!! I mean to see how excited they get while attempting to hook them up is just amazing !! I think most of them took off when they heard the sound of them being attached to the truck!

    This is so beautiful. Working horses that love to work but are taken care of. Also how they’re in sync together. Horses are awesome beautiful animals and they love and stay loyal to their owner, and absolutely never let you down. I love it ❤️

      Those heels are caulks or in Europe - caulkins ... You can have 2 heels caulked or add another caulk to the toe as well , depending upon what your horses need to perform their best .
      3 Day Event horses use screw in studs depending upon what kind of land they're competing upon - grass , hard going or mud ...
      These heavy horses & 3Day Event horses are apples to oranges or chalk & cheese though . 😊

    I just watched a top pull of 9,100 lbs from the Sept-2022 event out of Angelica, NY - almost double what was pulled here!
    Don't get me wrong, these horses are truly amazing, just wondering why such a significant difference in competition pull weights for similar sized Draft Horses?

    • @jcoutdoorfever
      @jcoutdoorfever  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen the same horses pull 10 to 11 thousand pounds. The Todd machine is so different. The higher amounts were boats with blocks.

    • @GlobalistJuice
      @GlobalistJuice ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jcoutdoorfever ah yes, you're right the event was boats with blocks on dirt, didn't realize the difference in load-style would make such a difference in ability to pull higher weights. And 2yrs ago, I watched a competition that topped at around 9,600 lb with SINGLE Belgian horses pulling the boat on a damp sandy area, I imagine the wet sand didn't restrict momentum and allowed for such a weighty pull... and by a single horse! I enjoy watching these powerful horses and have zero knowledge of the workings behind the sport, so thank you for the informative reply.

    Horses were NEVER and I mean NEVER meant to pull such heavy loads. Look at the way they struggle at the start. Do you think that's healthy? Way to ruin a horse's back and hocks. I wonder how long those competition horses last before they are lame. These horse pulls may be interesting to watch until you really think about it and realize what you are seeing. Powerful horses manhandled to pull weights that their bodies strain to handle. The horses gape their mouths at the start because the guys yanking the reins are HURTING them. Yeah, looks like fun. Right.

    • @MorganJServices
      @MorganJServices 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Modern horse pulling contests are wretched events chasing after dollars and trophies with a bunch of fat jackasses shamefully clinging to fragile egos through the disgusting misuse of magnificent creatures. Those gentle giants are NOT physically designed for power jerking of heavy loads. Harness and collars only work properly with the draft physique when the horse is pushing into the equipment. The harness was meant to ease the strain on the horse. Not so with this sickening sport. The creatures pay the price with injuries, discarding at auctions and even death. at slaughter plants.

    If this was done elsewhere outside of Canada and the United States and their "friendly" nations...surely animal protection groups would ban it , calling it "animal cruelty" . Those innocent poor animals are suffering pulling all that weight just for humans to be entertained and generate revenue through fees and betting and TH-cam content and what not. I see no beauty in this activity other than pure human greediness and torture towards animals. No offence given and I hope none taken.

    • @sanniepstein4835
      @sanniepstein4835 ปีที่แล้ว

      These horses are bred for precisely this job. They are well treated athletes. Whips are forbidden and they pull for only a few seconds at a times. Ask a human athlete if he considers his sport torture.

      You do realize that Mr. Watts "official" One Horsepower is more like the amount of power put out by a small pony at a walk, don't you?
      By the actual standard each of these in the team, pulling hard, is in the realm of 10-20 'brake' HP, or apx. 7.5- 15 Kilowatts, or about ten of your microwave's power output. Each!
