The sad reality is that bureaucracy kills everything and makes it almost impossible to scale a business in any way necessary. 😀

I totally resonate with all of this having moved to italy 6 years ago and set up new business it has been triple times the challenge of business I did for 10 years in the UK. My next start up will NOT be registered in italy. Staff mentality is somewhat backwards with huge lack of ambition or entrepreneurship skills and try to training ... nope it’s like a foreign zone for them to even want to learn and goes over their heads. I could go on and on with how frustrating it has been as a growing entrepreneur myself to almost have all I’ve been trained and all I’ve learnt past 20 years of my business life feel like it’s been stripped out of me in Italy.

I do not have personal experience in registering a business in Italy but I can strongly recommend that you will only consider the northern part of Italy. This will already be challenging but at least there is a sense of business there. 👊

Can't agree more. Regret every day coming here.Spent lot of money here in getting a Master's in Fashion only to understand that my entire education is useless. So less developed when it comes to doing things online and if you are a foreigner especially someone from Non EU Country, they just think you as a caregiver or a cleaner. I am not saying these are bad jobs but they just have this mentality that all non EU women are supposed to do this.I am so disappointed with this country and their mindsets.I took a huge education loan to come here and I have no clue how I am gonna pay it.I have worked for free for so many people, I am sorry to say but my experience has been very disappointing

Concerning your question, I would say that it is not impossible but very difficult. Italians do prefer shopping in small stores around the corner. Also you need to understand which products are in demand in Italy. Baby ware is always a good starting point

Concerning your question: its hard to give advice without further information. Where ever you start any business ( that includes a school) you need to be aware if there is a need for such an offer. Furthermore, legal requirements and the willingness to pay are also essential. I do offer start-up coaching, so please feel free to drop me an email.( its on my channel page). 👊🏻😀

I want to start a rental or airbnb business in Lombardy/Piedmont. How would you say that the possibilities are like for that?
Is it possible for me to start a business in my home country Sweden and operate in Italy?
My partner really wants to live in Italy as she is from there but I have a hard time seeing myself having a good career there compared to Sweden so i am thinking of supplementing my income with rental income.

    • @AskMeStartUp

Thank you for contacting me. You are about to start a challenging endeavour. Just be aware that Frances McDonald’s I’ve never made it in Italy and I’m sure KFC will feel as well. That has to do with the Italian culture and their favour for qualitative delicious food. Hence I would not recommend to start a kebab but rather think about starting an Indian restaurant. The question is is Bergamo the right place? Furthermore you need to understand how many people are actually willing to try the food you would be offering. If you need further insights please feel free to drop me an email at any time. Good luck

To me Italy is a double-edged sword, they can be brilliant and then the total opposite. Especially in the south things can be challenging, also bureaucracy is terrible and the work ethics from my point of view could need improvement. There is a reason why there no jobs for young adults in this country

I think that lining in Italy can be a major challenge, because nothing really works in this country. Even simple things like selling a house can take for ever, because authorities demand some documents but these might be available. Due to this distrust people very often "just do stuff". Also you always need someone you trust on site else you will be taken advantage off. Hope this helps...

I recently set up business in Bari, Puglia. Of course it wasn't as smooth as I did in the UK, but coming from mainland Europe, the process and the requirement is pretty much the same as everywhere else.
As for entrepreneur spirit, I can't see it is missing. You are talking about the 3rd largest economy in the EU. No attention to details? All the 32 million employed people are just sloppy at the same time we desiraley want these badly made Italian products, right?
Problems dismissing an employee? Have you checked the labour law in France and Germany? You'd cry back the Italian. Have you tried to dismiss employee in the UK? How long it took?
Online businesses don't work? I connected all the utilities online. It was challenging and less convenient than in the UK, but can be done. I furnished a house and business bought directly from Italian suppliers. I found professionals online to fix things (you know, in this country you are not allowed to hack a house to oblivion then sell that crap to an other unlucky one like in the UK). Your experience is not inline not my experience.
As for corruption and mafia, it is present but it is no different in nature than I experienced elsewhere.
I really don't understand this bashing. There is a massive room for improvement, many things can be frustrating, but I see some things that I very much like, e.g. fibre optic coverage across the country (in most villages you can have 1GB fibre while in most parts of London you are blessed with Virgin Media), the government uses digital signetures to have a single sign-on often to even utility providers.

    • @AskMeStartUp
      @AskMeStartUp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I do not know the specific market situation of barber shops in Italy . In Switzerland and Germany these are run by mostly people from the near east and offer low cost cuts and trims. These will never survive as the willingness to pay is lower than required to survive economically. Second . Italians do not have jobs, a huge number of men below 40 still lives with their parents. They for sure have no money to spend
