I love this video and how you explain why they are important for you :D. I really wish you can add sound to the steam achievements.. I instantly would add that amazing xbox sound, there is started for me as well.
I think they add a tiny bit of value on what it takes to complete a game. I think some games out there give you in-game awards for unlocking achievements, like Bloons TD6 and ShellShock Live.
One of biggest reason of all my free claimed games from epic game store are untouched is because they don't have achievements and.. also because it takes forever to download from that shitty store
This is how I look at it. Gamers put a lot of time, energy and money on playing video games like buying games and consoles with their hard earned money. Now, achievements and trophies are a way to convey all of those time spent playing those games as a sort of marker or time stamp in life when playing those games. It's similar to a stamp or seal of approval in my point of view. You will look back 5 or 10 years from now and see the time and year that you got that achievement and trophy if you still own that same account after all these years. In my case, looking at those achievements and trophies take me back to those memories and how excited I was playing that game and then getting that trophy and achievement. These things may not have any physical value in this case monetary value that equals money but I could say the same thing about the enjoyment we feel when playing those games. The joy and fulfillment that you feel when playing games are also priceless and have no value. They might seem useless but at the end of the day They're markers in time and proof that you played those games and acquired that trophy or achievement. It's the same with people who are trying to 100% a game or do a speedrun. Do those things have any value when it comes to getting paid? No but it depends if you can monetized you channel to broadcast you playing video games. That's where the value comes in. If you can make money playing video games as a living then it's not useless. If you're playing video games for fun and not making any money from it then it doesn't matter if achievements and trophies have value or not. What's important is that they're there to freely acquire and access without restrictions.
I like this new type of videos, thank you for sharing your story. My story, as a previous addict to collecting achievements with being little bit of OCD equals nightmare for your life. I remember playing a games that I didn't like so much (forcing myself) just to get Steam achievements because I wanted my profile to show 50% on average. Please don't be me, learn from others mistakes. Enjoy gaming, that is the point and trust me, nobody, NOBODY cares about your achievements.
Wow. I fully understand you, I've done that myself and it's fun when you replay games you didn't fully finish or wanted to replay, but yeah it can get a little obsessive if you're not careful. Thanks for sharing. I'll probably come back to "concept" videos once in a while. We'll see.
You are right, the thing is *I NEED MY PLATINUMS* when i buy a game that is my main objective, Persona 5 make me play 300 hours just to get one platinum, i enjoyed anyway, i Just miss playing games like Sly cooper that have easy achivements and fun gameplay
Amen to that. Currently trying to go for the platinum trophy on Crisis Core FF7 Reunion, and to get all trophies, it requires a 25+ hour grind. I loved the game when I first played it on psp, but the more I play it trying to go for all trophies, the less I enjoy the game.
You always feel like you missed something or could improve something in videos. Today, I was just thinking about the "easy achievement" lists and "To do" lists these sites. An underrated feature in my opinion, and something I should have mentioned. Oh well. Next time?
And bro I'm not gonna lie: lack of achievements on Switch is making me play it less. And I own astral chain, dragon quest xi AND BOTW. Idk it just dont feel right without achievements. Like I'm wasting time.
I'll mostly just use achievements/trophies as a way to like, log my games. For example I'll look back on my Platinum for Fallout 3 and be like "I'm never touching that game again." Whereas for something like Assassin's Creed I'll be like "fuck" and then I'll replay it to get achievements on 360 since it never got trophies. It's completely useless BUT at the same time so is my useless knowledge of random entertainment.
I'm probably in the minority, but achievements mean literally nothing to me and it does nothing for me whatsoever. I dont go out of my way to get certain achievements, I'm interested in the game itself not some record keeping of "you did x, congratulations".
Old comment i know, but i just wanna say that personally i feel like trophies makes me appreciate a game more. For me at least, trophies are ways for devs to push players to discover/experience more of what game has to offer. Usually non trophy hunters will just play a game, one and done deal. They might be missing out on a lot of stuff like secret boss, upgrades, items, or just fun challenges in general. Tho it can't be denied some trophies design are bad in general, in which case you shouldn't bother with them
They might be useless, but I can't get enough of the feeling of getting one
Yeah, same here. I know they're useless but I still feel happy everytime I get a new one.
It's such a strange but fulfilling experience each time you get one. I understand the mentality, the psychology of it, but I still love it.

Well, when some of my friends say that i am wrong i use my platinums in the discussion
From reddit btw
conversely, the lack of achievements might benifit some games' switch versions
I don't mind them so long as they don't make me participate in some bullshit grinding
Amen. Achievements/trophies should be fun or interesting. Grindy achievements that anyone can do are just mindless.

The original Assassin's Creed broke in some way (or maybe I miscounted) and I was missing one flag. I'm sitting one shy of a perfect game there.
