Contrary to rumours, hell would freeze over before England would disband it's Ghurkha regiments. These Nepalese warriors are held in such high regard by the British public it would never be conceivable for any government to cut our ties with them.
+Templar Knight I wish it were true. But, I can see in the future that they will disband them. They did with the Black Watch and they have an even greater history. They will have a company around for ceremonial stuff and after them they will be gone. I see them and their families every day. Great guys and very friendly wives and families. But be rest assured there will always be Nepalese warriors in the British armed forces. They will just have been born and bred in the UK.
+Templar Knight The sad reality though is that they are now on shaky ground. The Gurkhas survived as long as they did because they were cheaper than British soldiers in a line infantry regiment. Now that Joanna Lumley's campaign has them on the same terms and conditions as British soldiers, they have suddenly become very expensive assets to the MoD, and have effectively signed their own eventual death warrant.
ploneuk All scottish line infantry regiments became the royal regiment of scotland, it is the only regiment where the battalions keep their previous regimental name and number. 3rd battalion is the black watch
For a very well written appreciation of the Gurkhas, read "Bugles and a Tiger" by John Masters, a former officer of the Gurkha Rifles who later became a professional novelist and scriptwriter. Ayo Gorkhali!
The company I work for employs a number of ex-military Gurkhas...there are sometimes language difficulties but they are almost without exception incredible employees...one thing I would say though is don't fuck with them...they're something else if you really get up their noses
I'm pretty sure, that the last type of person I want to mess with, is the only thing the Japanese were scared of in World War 2 (other then the A-bomb, of course.)
Once when I was a child i saw a nightmare and told my mom and the next day she kept the khukuri under my pillow and said "Now the nightmare will be too scared to touch you" at that time I didn't understand but now I see.
I spent years living amongst Gurkhas in Kluang Garrison in the '60's. Went to school with their kids, ate with them, celebrated with them, they spent as much time in our house as me and my siblings spent in theirs. My Dad loved them and loved serving with them. If my memory serves me right (and it sometimes does not) there were two batallions of them one being 10 Gurkha Rifles and I cannot remember the second one. I once asked in the sort of way only an 11 year old can of their Regimental Sergeant Major, why he served with the British Army he said he had told his Grandfather he wanted to fight the Japanese and his Grandfather who had also served told him the British Army will teach him how to kill many Japanese and he should go. His father who had also served agreed and he joined in 1943 as a teenager and his grandfather was right and he killed many Japanese, Commies and was waiting to take his young men to Borneo to kill many Indonesians - I'm guessing he did that too. Dad went to Borneo also and the Gurkha lads seemed to respect him and enjoyed his company as he did theirs. A lifetime ago and a different world away. I ended up joining up on my return to Britain at the age of 15 and gave 16 years to the Army and a further 35 years plus to the crown in a different capacity - in turn I had the chance to serve alongside the Gurkha lads and I can appreciate why Dad was so fond and protective of them. Fearsome specimens when required to be and as gentle as lambs when not.
Proud to have the Gurkhas in Britain. Glad they get treated the same as other British soldiers. My father as a para fought beside them and has always respected them!
Gurkhas are now treated in the same way as any other British soldier. The same pay, the same (or equivalent) pension, the same medical benefits, the same education for their children, etc. They now also have the right to settle in the UK (along with their famillies) if they so desire. So the protests, which were very, very strongly supported by the British people, have achieved their aim. The British people hold the Gurkhas in the highest regard and they are welcomed wherever they go.
No. these people are Nepali, from the Gurkha brigade based in the UK. Just to let you know, the Indian Gurkha are known as Indians merely because India stole some of Nepal's land and took advantage of the soldiers there by changing their nationality.
Of all the nations the British fought during their time as an empire they found the Ghurkhas the most fearsome. It's what they did in the dark that caused the British so much terror. Those knives are very good a separating heads from bodies. It was very disconcerting to British troops to wake up in the morning to find out their guards had lost their heads during the night... So the British made a treaty with the Ghurkhas and they have been part of the elite of the British army ever since.
Avinash Thomas The British won the Gurkha wars, the Gurkha king sued for peace when a British column approached Kathmandu. He knew that if he carried on fighting he would lose his independence. he pledged to cease raiding into India and allowed the British to set up a mission and recruitment centre in Kathmandu (Later moved to Pokhara) The British had had demanded from the king the right to set up the mission, as a muteral respect for the each others courage had come out of the war

The Gurkha's are fearsome warriors. From the first war we had against them were both sides gained mutual respect for each other, the Gurkha's have been feared and respected everywhere even in the British Army, and their on our side lol.
You are so right my friend. I servered with them when I was in the USA military. When a fire fight breaks out want them by my side because you will never have to worry about them running away or hiding. They are so brave and they know how to use that Kukri very well. I got rid of my old knive and got a Kukri knive and had them train me on how to use it
Started off British and Gurkhas fighting in Nepal. Gurkhas liked how the British soldiers fought and British liked how Gurkhas fought. Rest is history. Many want -to-be Gurkhas have killed themselves trying to get into the British Army. They are more than a Military Band. Feared and awed.
salute to all brave gurkha's 4 there wonderful achievement till date and hopefully they will take there legacy to new heights in all forms of life. JAI MAHAKALI AAYO GORKHALI
The Japs,Argues,Germans,Taliban,All feared the Gurkas In the Dark of night your throat was CUT! And you didn't even know it! Brave Brave Men,No Fear. Moto. Better to die fighting Than die a Coward.
I am a naïve American. I heard that a tradition is that the kukri knife must taste blood after it is removed from its sheath. Why did the Gurkhas not cut themselves during the ceremony?
Because there's no such tradition. Read "Bugles and a Tiger," by John Masters, who was a British officer serving with a Gurkha Rifle regiment and later a professional writer.
+Araf I think it was true during the world wars since we nepalese were very superstitious back then ,during war a gurkha would be killing a lot of enemies with his knife ,hence our ancestors mist have thought that the spirits of the killed soldiers would be trapped in the khukhuri ,hence looking for revenge and hence and the khukhuri tasting others blood would be blood thirsty and wanting blood and upon not recieving blood would come to harm the person using it so they cut themselves to make khukhuri taste blood once in awhile so it would not harm them.If they did cut themselves than I think it would be for this reason only because I am from that community I know their mentality.
there was a report during second world war that 1 gurkha name dilip rai revolted against the british and indian officers. the soldier dilip rai requested british officers and indian officers to return nepali land back to people of nepal. but the british and indian officers insulted dilip rai and the consequences was deadly. dilip rai took out his khukuri and it was reported that he beheaded 2 of the british officers and 1 indian officers. when the other soldiers found out they started firing at dilip rai. dilip rai managed to escape and dozens of british and indian soldiers went after him in the thick jungles of burma. in the jungle it was reported that dilip rai single handedly took out 12 british and indian soldiers just with his rifle and a khukuri. we need patriotic people like dilip rai who's willing to fight for his country and fight for the return of nepali land by the british and india.
Yes i will one day. Because of looters in Nepal i find i cannot do any thing at this moment. Staying outside i help my country whatsoever. What have you done for Nepal so far?
environ 1 listen my friend. i have a dream that one day when china recruit the gurkhas, nepal can reclaim nepali land from india. the racist british did not hand nepali land when it gave independence to india and left india. india and UK must be taught a good lesson by china and nepal. we can singed a new treaty with china that allows the Chinese to recruit the gurkhas into Chinese army. Imagine if china recruit the gurkhas, Chinese military will be number one. And it is also good for Nepal. there are millions of young nepali men unemployed in nepal. if china recruits at least 100,000 nepali men into the chinese gurkha regiment, at least 100,000 nepali men will have jobs. They will be able to feed their families back home. And yes if china have the gurkhas in their units, american forces will be scared to death and so will be the indians. Nepal was never part of india and has never been part of india. In fact India is holding our land. yes india is holding nepali land which nepal signed with the british. look for Sugauli Treaty(signed on 2 December 1815). this treaty allowed british to take 1/2 of nepali land. but after british gave independce to india and left india, it fail to hand over nepali land back to nepal. so Nepal has the rights to declare india and uk WAR. Nepal signed with the british not with the india. So why is india holding our land? so if india consider nepal as brother then does india fail to hand over nepali territory to people of Nepal? we must request UK to demand India to return Nepali land back to people of Nepal. I know India will listen to its former master -the British. nepal have many difficulties in development because nepal is a landlocked country. unless we get back our land from india, nepal will never progress. so we must fight for our land. it's our rights. The british handover hongkong to china in 1997, so in the same way, india must handover our land back to Nepal. UK must request and demand india to return our land. And india must give back nepali land so everyone lives happily.......if not then china have the right to help nepal fight terrorist country india and UK. Nepal must also request Mr Putin for help. We must tell Mr Putin and the Russian people about the conspiracy by the british and india to make Nepal poor. I am sure Mr Putin and Russia will help Nepal to reclaim our land from India.
Not much better to represent British Forces than the Ghurkas. Amazingly disciplined, loyal and fierce fighters. They have an odd mix of history. They march at Light Infantry pace and they are Infantry soldiers but take a tot of rum each day and parade like Navy matelots. Always immaculately turned out and are totally respected by other regiments. Go Ghurkali!
gurkhas fight for honour they take an oath to her majesty as with other british soldiers this oath is for life they are treated as all british soldiers, respected, for nearly two hundred years they have shown courage fortitude and are probably amongst the worlds finest soldiers. during world war one the british army asked the king of nepal permission tp recruit four thousand more gurkhas the king replied you can have twenty thousand .nepal has stood by and supported britain for 200 years
Gurkhas respected by all who know them those who dont and say stupid gay comments they may be little guys but dont nod your head will be off look up the number of VC holders in their ranks
i just heard the news that gurkhas are not given food by the british and so gurkhas are starving or either the gurkhas are protesting against the injustice done by the british by starving. insah allah if only gurkhas listen to me and join the taliban they be given very good salary and good food. the gurkhas made mistake by not fighting for hitler and now they are also making mistake again.
***** china need to recruit the gurkhas. china is now world superpower and need the best military in the world to fight the terrorist country like usa, uk. also diliprai told me UK has not demanded India to return Nepali land back to Nepal. india is holding nepali land which the british signed with nepal. and since british is out of india, nepal need to have its land back.
leggie65 my friend, gurkhas just don't cut the head off chicken, goat, buffalo, cow, beast. they also cut their enemy head off. if gurkhas have the chance to fight FFL or any other so call special force of america and NATO, they will be happy to cut their head off. go and watch this video. Look for this video found in YT. Gurkhas vs the Special Forces of the World
Well my opinion is based on my personal experience with the Nepalese population in Hong Kong! Maybe the Nepalese in UK aren't so violent but the one's in Hong Kong generally are. Not all of them but generally when it comes to fights, they're the most violent people on Earth. Also BTW, I'm an Nepali. I have as much pride as any Nepali would but I'm astonished to the fact that they wouldn't let Gurkha's stay in Britain so I was trying to give a rational reasoning that might suffice my question.

It is the British Army not English.
I hope you right, but the army is so underfunded now I have a bad feeling the Gurkhas will get cut soon,
ploneuk All scottish line infantry regiments became the royal regiment of scotland, it is the only regiment where the battalions keep their previous regimental name and number. 3rd battalion is the black watch
a total credit to their mothers and fathers and also nepal,,,,,,i would give my last to those little men.............thank you from scotland
Turn them loose on the Taliban and Isis! Semper Fidelis.
Stay proud my friend. You and your people earned it. God bless
For a very well written appreciation of the Gurkhas, read "Bugles and a Tiger" by John Masters, a former officer of the Gurkha Rifles who later became a professional novelist and scriptwriter.
Ayo Gorkhali!
Excellent, steadfast and reliable warriors. Couldn't wish for better than a Gurkha alongside you on the battlefield.
Proud to be gorkhali..salute..
Great video. I thank you for sharing a great show with every body here on you tube
Just look up Corporal Dipprasad Pun from 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles........ Enough said.
Old School Aussie, total respect for the Ghurka.
The company I work for employs a number of ex-military Gurkhas...there are sometimes language difficulties but they are almost without exception incredible employees...one thing I would say though is don't fuck with them...they're something else if you really get up their noses
I'm pretty sure, that the last type of person I want to mess with, is the only thing the Japanese were scared of in World War 2 (other then the A-bomb, of course.)
aethertech
They`re not scared of the A-bomb. Just don`t like it very much. Me neither.
Absolute perfection and even as a former pongo we were nothing compared to the ghurkas mucho respect
So proud Gurkhas are part of the British armed forces, we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid👍
Gurkha band the only military band to carry arms while playing at an event
Im proud to be Filipino...the best and most educated skilled workers in the world...
What has being Filipino got to do with these soldiers
send my regard to my gurkhas ex friend yhe brigade of gurkhas during their stays in Brunei 1981...
From the royal Brunei police band.
Laure ko Relimai Fashionai Ramro , Rato Rumal Relimai Khukuri vireko ... Sahi xa yo Geet chai :D
Proud to have the Gurkhas in Britain. Glad they get treated the same as other British soldiers. My father as a para fought beside them and has always respected them!
I am proud to be a Sherpa
Fantastic soldiers and I have had the great privilige of serving alongside them operationally....proud to be British soldiers!
These boys have demonstrated that they can fight...without their marching bad. Semper Fidelis.
It is a shame that these ww2 movies don't feature the brave sacrifices of these gurkhas
tears out of my eyes when i see this. gurkha is the only world we have to be proud of ourselves. besides that everything is ruined !! salute !!
As much as I hate to admit it, as a fellow Nepalese, I have to say that you are right sir.
Alan moore Do u even know what u r saying?? Get the facts right before saying anything.

+deepak rana The Treaty of Sugauli (also spelled Sugowlee , Sagauli and Segqulee) famously known as the treaty for Establishing boundary line of Nepal was signed on 2 December 1815 and ratified by 4 March 1816 between the East India Company and King of Nepal following theAnglo-Nepalese War of 1814-16. The signatory for Nepal was Raj Guru Gajraj Mishra aided by Chandra Sekher Upadhayaya, the signatory for the Company was Lieutenant Cololonel Paris Bradshaw. The treaty called for territorial concessions in which parts of Nepal would be given to British India, the establishment of a British representative in Kathmandu, and allowed Britain to recruit Gurkhas for military service.

The Gurkha's are fearsome warriors. From the first war we had against them were both sides gained mutual respect for each other, the Gurkha's have been feared and respected everywhere even in the British Army, and their on our side lol.
look at those shining khukuris... the weapon itself speaks the truth about gurkhas history. respect for gurkhas
LOYALTY, DISCIPLINE, HONOR, SACRIFICE=GURKHA.....RESPECT
The Japs,Argues,Germans,Taliban,All feared the Gurkas
In the Dark of night your throat was CUT!
And you didn't even know it!
Brave Brave Men,No Fear.
Moto. Better to die fighting
Than die a Coward.
to comment or criticize the Gurkha's you first have to work with them and get to know them......if you can't do ether keep quiet
Some of the best soldiers we have in the British Army!! Big shout out to the Ghurka's!!!
Highly proffessional as always.
love the last display....gets faster and faster to something like 100 pace a minute
There is no one more bad ass than a gurkha.
I am a naïve American. I heard that a tradition is that the kukri knife must taste blood after it is removed from its sheath. Why did the Gurkhas not cut themselves during the ceremony?
Years ago I was with the British Army working in Nepal and got to know the Gurkhas. That is a myth or an urban legend.
Because there's no such tradition. Read "Bugles and a Tiger," by John Masters, who was a British officer serving with a Gurkha Rifle regiment and later a professional writer.
+Araf I think it was true during the world wars since we nepalese were very superstitious back then ,during war a gurkha would be killing a lot of enemies with his knife ,hence our ancestors mist have thought that the spirits of the killed soldiers would be trapped in the khukhuri ,hence looking for revenge and hence and the khukhuri tasting others blood would be blood thirsty and wanting blood and upon not recieving blood would come to harm the person using it so they cut themselves to make khukhuri taste blood once in awhile so it would not harm them.If they did cut themselves than I think it would be for this reason only because I am from that community I know their mentality.
proud to be Nepali Gorkhas
is this martial fighting in the form of dance?
there was a report during second world war that 1 gurkha name dilip rai revolted against the british and indian officers. the soldier dilip rai requested british officers and indian officers to return nepali land back to people of nepal. but the british and indian officers insulted dilip rai and the consequences was deadly. dilip rai took out his khukuri and it was reported that he beheaded 2 of the british officers and 1 indian officers. when the other soldiers found out they started firing at dilip rai. dilip rai managed to escape and dozens of british and indian soldiers went after him in the thick jungles of burma. in the jungle it was reported that dilip rai single handedly took out 12 british and indian soldiers just with his rifle and a khukuri.
we need patriotic people like dilip rai who's willing to fight for his country and fight for the return of nepali land by the british and india.
Wow!!
..............and that idiot diliprai is you
environ 1 so you are indian. are you indian? why do you do not want to return nepal land back to people of nepal.?
You sir, have won my respect
The Gurkha's are very peaceful. They're not violent. They're just lethal.
jai maa kali aayo gorkhali...who the bastard who dislike dis
Gurkha regiment in the Indian army is one of the best..
Only soldiers in the world that I will accept as superior battlefield soldiers to the Royal Marines; Gurkhas. Huge respect for them.
UK and Nepal are like 🤞 🇬🇧 🇳🇵
Not much better to represent British Forces than the Ghurkas. Amazingly disciplined, loyal and fierce fighters. They have an odd mix of history. They march at Light Infantry pace and they are Infantry soldiers but take a tot of rum each day and parade like Navy matelots.
Always immaculately turned out and are totally respected by other regiments. Go Ghurkali!
far away from homeland Nepal to Uk continuing bravery history. keep it up.
If this was the UK the stadium would be packed to capacity . we respect worriors
Fills me with so much pride 🌸
i know a few gurkhas ,, dont ever feck with them xx top lads !!
gurkhas fight for honour they take an oath to her majesty as with other british soldiers this oath is for life they are treated as all british soldiers, respected, for nearly two hundred years they have shown courage fortitude and are probably amongst the worlds finest soldiers. during world war one the british army asked the king of nepal permission tp recruit four thousand more gurkhas the king replied you can have twenty thousand .nepal has stood by and supported britain for 200 years
Gurkhas respected by all who know them those who dont and say stupid gay comments they may be little guys but dont nod your head will be off look up the number of VC holders in their ranks
i just heard the news that gurkhas are not given food by the british and so gurkhas are starving or either the gurkhas are protesting against the injustice done by the british by starving.
insah allah if only gurkhas listen to me and join the taliban they be given very good salary and good food. the gurkhas made mistake by not fighting for hitler and now they are also making mistake again.
what on earth are you talking about get real you very ill inform people
*****
china need to recruit the gurkhas. china is now world superpower and need the best military in the world to fight the terrorist country like usa, uk.
also diliprai told me UK has not demanded India to return Nepali land back to Nepal. india is holding nepali land which the british signed with nepal. and since british is out of india, nepal need to have its land back.
INSAH ALLAH
leggie65 my friend, gurkhas just don't cut the head off chicken, goat, buffalo, cow, beast. they also cut their enemy head off. if gurkhas have the chance to fight FFL or any other so call special force of america and NATO, they will be happy to cut their head off.
go and watch this video.
Look for this video found in YT.
Gurkhas vs the Special Forces of the World
This Band has a nice sound.
God Bless these Brave soldiers they have my respect
Well my opinion is based on my personal experience with the Nepalese population in Hong Kong! Maybe the Nepalese in UK aren't so violent but the one's in Hong Kong generally are. Not all of them but generally when it comes to fights, they're the most violent people on Earth.
Also BTW, I'm an Nepali. I have as much pride as any Nepali would but I'm astonished to the fact that they wouldn't let Gurkha's stay in Britain so I was trying to give a rational reasoning that might suffice my question.
The Gurkas have the coolest eyes right drill step in all the military's.
Royal green jacket and a Gurkha..
Hey Alan, I was wondering if you could tell me since when they treated Gorkhas As same right as British soldiers? Any kind of source will do.
Ty.
Wow nice work
Anyone who will fight for my country is my fellow countryman
Then there would be plenty of Taliban who would lose their heads! The Gurkha's loyalty is to the Queen and it is without any question whatsoever!
Aarey yrr who is in gurkha gurung, magar, rai, limbu....and they leave in nepal and and they are nepalese. ...
If we were racist we Brits wouldn't consider the Gurkhas one of the most elite brigades in the British Armed Forces, would we?
