Culver is basically in the middle of everything: close to the beaches and to all the fun in West Hollywood and East LA. The 405 traffic is always in your favor for commutes. I love me a mocha tesora from Philz and Salt and Straw. I always love sitting on the steps by Culver Studios. There's amazing food in downtown Culver City. I always recommend this area for ppl moving to LA.

Westfield Culver City used to be called the Fox Hills Mall. It was a major local landmark shopping center for the area back in the day. Have many good memories going there with family & friends when I was younger. I miss the old mall, but I'll admit the remodeling does look quite nice.

Fox Hills mall babyyyyy! I don't know how old you are, but I was a kid in the 90s, do you remember that giant geometric cube thing they had in the middle of the mall? It had neon lighting, flowing water and you could use it to get from the floor level to the food court up to. I miss being a kid 😢

My grandparents bought a house in Culver City brand new in 1952 as the one and only home they ever owned. Some of the long time residents think that the property values are insane, but I think that is because Culver City is adjacent to some of the most desirable beach towns and it is central to a lot of other things. It has a feel to it that other neighborhoods in LA don't have.

I lived in Culver City for nine years back in the 1990's, it was a great sleepy little town then, centrally located to just about everywhere. But things happened and I ended up having to move to Long Beach in 2001, which has been great in it's own way. BTW you are wrong about Culver Studios. It was the old Hal Roach Studios where they did the Our Gang movies and other classics. They also filmed parts of Gone With The Wind and parts of Ed Wood (I was living on Ince when they filmed parts of Ed Wood right in front of my apartment). The Old MGM studio is down the street at what is now Sony Pictures. I've been back a few times since I moved, its ok now, not the same as it was, but what is?

The first time I went to LA I thought I could book a movie audition myself, I was in the Academy Players Directory which had the studio and casting director numbers. Since it was 12/30/91 most offices were closed but I called all of them and anyone who answered I said "What Time is Casting Today" and on the 98th call, the director of A FEW GOOD MEN film said "We are moving it up to 10:30, park in the south lot" I brought a headshot and winged a Monty Python routine and got a callback! The audition was at the Culver Studios. Culver City has too much traffic and borders on some sketchy areas but I still book my hotel stays there so I like it.

  • @sandramiller1988

That actually wasn’t the MGM studios you showed.
That was the Culver Studios which was founded in 1918 by Thomas Ince(The boulevard is named after him), which was later bought in the 50s by Lucy and Desi Arnez as part of their Desilu Productions, and too many others to count.
The MGM Studios lot is now Sony Pictures Studios, home to Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures since 1990.
They did a great job renovating it(over $100 million), it was in pretty tattered condition unfortunately.
I used to go watch the construction/expansion/renovation and got to walk around the lot several times with friends who worked there.
Love Culver, but Studio City is my fave…

Some find Culver boring because they fail to see that is part of its charm. If you want glitz and glam, its just minutes North...If you want the beach, its just a short distance to the beach.
Being on the Westside, at the intersection of two (405 & 10) of the busiest freeways in the nation, allows one access to many wonderful delights.

I've grown up in Culver City and I was kinda surprised to see some recognition, but yes I would say we're probably the best city in LA. Still pretty pricey but still nice. The downside is that there have been armed robberies in our area over the past few months, which never used to happen. I used to go to the atm at midnight and never felt unsafe, now I wouldn't advise it. Also the homeless situation has gone up resulting in more crime in our area. Still safer than other areas but thought it was worth bringing up
Also the La Ballona creek is pronounced in Spanish. Like “Bayona”. Don't let a local hear you say it in English 😁

If you look at homeless they don’t live within the city or the freeways within the city of Culver you won’t see any homeless and panhandling…notice…they are mostly along Venice Blvd or boarder line of LA and Culver. Culver City has a law no one can’t set up tent within the city, if so will get arrested…but…LA wants Culver citizens to solve their homeless problem $$$$$. Notice when you drive through any Culver City freeways (within the city) there is no homeless tent set up.

The cinema was always an amazing experience. When he said that Culver City is where the wizard of oz was filmed, it sparked in my mind that there was a hotel there that some of the actors slept there. I love it and I’ve stayed there because every year the would make that into a haunted house for Halloween. You were able to go inside and get spooked! This town has changed so much it’s crazy! I really recommend and if you have any questions please reply!

How much do you pay for rent in Culver City?
    Currently live in Westwood

My rent is abnormally cheap for LA - around $1K. But I live in a house with a couple roommates currently

Culver Studios (which is shown when you mention MGM) is NOT and never was MGM. I lived across the street from the old MGM when I moved to L.A., and I could see the MGM lion from my kitchen window, but by then, it was already Lorimar/Tristar, but they kept the lion sign.
My brother works for Sony Pictures, which occupies what used to be MGM, and I've gone to many screenings with him. They now have studio tours as well, but they took down the lion.

It looks great, but be honest. $2500-3000 to rent a closet sized studio. $100-$200/mo. to go out a couple times a week, plus all your other food. Shell out some dough for parking or transit costs and whatever else. To live there comfortably, most people would probably need to be making 6 figures, right? To scrape by, with no savings, probably $70,000?
I ask as someone who's been seriously considering moving to Culver City.

Is culver city safe for non-american tourists? Especially asians? Are rented cars safe from break in robbery? Or pick-pockets? Kindly advise. Will be visiting LA with a small 6 year old.

Culver City is a great place to live. It's way too expensive. Double what it was 10 years ago.

Actually, LA suburbs are the best cities. Go around to LA county, and by the way, Hollywood area and to Santa Monica are not LA locals. The REAL LA locals usually live in Northridge, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Inglewood, Long Beach, Panoma to Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Whittier, East LA, South LA to Harbor, and Palmdale. Etc.

For you outsiders trying to understand So Cal landscape: these channels like to call everything here LA. Culver City is not LA. It's an independent city, that is not part of the city of Los Angeles. It is a part of Los Angeles County, which is not "LA" proper, and is not an "LA neighborhood" like this guy says.

    • @cylcoco772

Example Palms, Marina Del Ray, Century City, and Playa Vista is part of LA district. Santa Monica and Beverly Hills like Culver City is it’s own independent city.

culver city is not LA. it's not a bad neighborhood at all, and a lot of neighborhoods just suck nowadays so that's saying something, but it's still not LA

Culver City was founded as a whites only town where black people and Latinos were forcibly removed by police after sundown 😅 glad you like it though
