      It is another Kyosho quality build for sure! Everything key together perfectly and it feels great in your hands. That drop test put a huge smile on my face the first time I did it, it worked perfectly! I ruined, i mean painted the body last Sunday and hope to get the wrap up and run video done soon.

      Thanks Dirk, I am glad you enjoyed it! It is a very nice kit and you can feel that it was once a very good race-spec buggy when it was first released. the fit and finish of everything is very nice.
      I am very hopeful I can get the paint scheme in my head on the body well enough for it to look good! we will see what happens! If you see it in its next video all flat black then you know it was a giant failure! LOL!

    Everything about the dirt master other then the body and wing is rb5. They used the same molds and manual. In 2007 when the rb5 came out the trees were unmarked as well. Shims galore. It is a fun build but specked as a race kit at the time. Glad to see you got one as they are a great 2wd buggy. And you can’t beat the price.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I know they took the old old race spec kit and changed the plastics and replaced the aluminum shocks with the plastic one. It is a really nice buggy to put together, in true Kyosho fashion all the parts fit together so very well!! It feels great and I think it will drive wonderfully on the track. I just have to see if I can get the paint scheme to loos as good on the buggy as it does in my head! You are right, for the price it is an excellent kit, they did very well on this one!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a good "best of both world kind of kit. It has the more classic look to it but underneath is far different from the classic kits! I was very pleased with the fit and strength of everything and I think it will be a very nice running buggy once I can get it finished!

      That is the reason I got so excited when the announced this one. It is a more modern chassis with the classic look to it. I really like that idea and I am hopefully maybe Losi and Associated get on board with the idea as well. We will see. I just have to get the body done so I can get it out for a run to see how good it runs! Sadly it is still sitting on my bench just like this!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is certainly worth pickling up, it is a very nice buggy with some nice classic looks to it. David's did turn out very nice! He did a very good comparison between this and the Genova. I think Geforce really dropped the ball on not releasing their buggy outside of Japan. I feel like they opened the door to something and never walked through it, Kyosho had no problems running through it though!! I hope you pick one up once they make their way up there, you will really like the build and I am very confident it will be a great runner!

      Man, I have been stalking and waiting for this one since it was announced! I love the idea of the more modern chassis under the classic looking body! I enjoyed the build and it feels great. I just wish they have cast one or two trees of just shims to make life easier but it worked out fine! The calipers saved my sanity! I hope the paint job work out was well on the body as it looks in my head!

      @@AddamsPlayground yes. The build is great despite the unusual instructions. I just wish the shims and hinge pin ball ends were made of metal tho. I have broken a ball end already and will be replacing them all with metal rb5 ones. Looking forward to seeing that body painted!👍😊

    It is a popular Buggy bud. Did a great job putting it together. I have really regained my love of "The Buggy" since I had my Team Associated out. Very cool to have all that Black hardware in there. Unlabeled trees would bother me more than it did you I think. lol Thumbs up brother

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a pretty popular one right now and for good reason. It is a pretty cheap kit for a race style buggy, it has the vintage styling queues and it is a really nice feeling buggy. I think it is going to drive great as everything work very well and feel great on the bench. The unlabeled tress are a pain when looking for a shim, other wise you are working on a few trees at a time as they are bagged in steps. So the parts you are looking for are not to find. It is just trying to figure out what shim is what as they have them cast on 6 or 7 different parts trees. The calipers made quick work out of figuring out the thickness of them.

      Thanks Steve! It is a really nice buggy and everything fit perfectly! The suspension seems to be dead on with the 35wt oil and the stock settings. It feels really nice overall all and you can tell this was designed to be a race spec kit back when it was originally released! It is very nice, now fingers crossed I can make the paint look as good on the car as it does in my head!

    Nice one, Addam! So what you forgot or didn't manage to get shots of this and that! You make up for that with your talking, and I mean that as a good thing! I think a lot of us like to tune in to your videos and expect a good ramble and you always deliver! Love the description of those things flying all over the place, ha ha!
    I would love to get me a Dirtmaster but not happening right now, I got so much other stuff going on, and I also don't like the body, so I'd need to find aftermarket options, they exist, but I just can't find anywhere that sells them, ha ha...
    Looking forward to seeing what you accomplish with yours!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Mads! If there is one thing I am good at is rambling on about things! LOL! Glad you enjoy hearing me babble on. Those little plastic nubs were flying all over the pace. The softer plastic ones were not bad, you could block those and collect them but the hard plastic ones stung if you tried blocking them with your hand so I let them fly! It sounded like an old cartoon with the bullets pinging off of everything! I like the old school look of the body on this one, but it is a bit on the plain side I will give you that. I think with a better paint job it will pop a bit more and liven it up! We will see what happens with my idea, it will either look cool or really weird!

      Thank you!!! I am hopeful I can make the body look as good as the idea in my head. I looks great in my head but we will see how it looks in real life. To be fair to Kyosho on the plastic nuts, they did that for the longest time an many kits, but it is 2023 and since they did not supply shock oil in there a nice trade off would have been 4 more black metal lock nuts! LOL! It is easy enough to replace them, I do have order them unfortunately as I only have two in may parts bin. small little thing compared to the rest of the very high quality kit. Glad to be keeping you updated on the various kits out and from the past too occasionally. So this one is kind of both as it was originally released in 2007 as a true 2wd race car. It had different plastic, aluminum shacks and a host of other race spec bits on it. They have re-released the chassis with simplified plastics and plastic shocks to lower the price point to make it more of an entry level racer. The new, classic styled body is a cool new loo for it and I really got excited for the marriage of a more modern chassis with the vintage looks. I think it will be a great running car and fingers crossed the paint job looks as good on the car as it does in my head! I have no idea if it will turn out well or not! We will find out soon, I hope to get some work done on it today if time allows! Take car Mark!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true about venting the wheel versus the tires. I am not going to run it so often it will really matter. It was the old school part of my that drilled out the wheels, it does tell you to in the manual as well. I know most racers will vent the tires for that reason but it did not even occur to me to do that while building it. I have a odd habit f doing the wheels and tires first in a build, not sure why but that is a thing here! I popped on of the rears on and realized it was under pressure so a quick look in the instructions and it said drill the rim and so Many of my kits have vented rims I didn't even think twice! LOL!

    Addams Playground, I but a Hobbywing "Juststock" esc and 17.5 motor in mine and it fit perfect. You could check that out. 👍. Second, you can bearing equip the steering with 4- 5x8x2.5mm bearings and 2- 3x6mm flanged bearings. I did this to my Dirtmaster and it was a perfect fit. I got the bearings from Avid Rc. 👍👍

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had put zero planning into what I was going to put in here for a motor and esc combo (always the case) so I went to my tub of parts and grabbed the brushless setup. Since that failed to fit well I went with the next best thing I had on hand. I think this combo will be more than enough for my tiny track but if I do decide to up grade then it is good to know those fit in fine. I do like their Juststock combos! I did stick in the 5x8 bearings in the steering since I had them on hand, I did forget to mention that in the video. It is a great feeling chassis and I am looking forward to driving it.

    This isi an excellent review. Your advice will help a lot of people. I enjoyed it. I would guess there are going to be a lot of people building this car who are going to be frustrated by the shims and are not going to the trouble of measuring. It would've been nice if Kyosho had put the shims of the same size in parts bags. I also notice when you held it up, it has the same kind of lowered section of the chassis like the original Bandit. May be other Kyosho cars have that. Keep up the good work.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Michael! It is a nice kit and even though the parts tress are not individually number like many of us are used to it is pretty easy to find the part you need. The shims are literally all over the place, there are a few here and there on various parts trees and measuring them was a lot quicker for me than trying to flip back and figure out what one to use. It would have been nice to have them all on one tree but I can see why they might not have. It may be more difficult to cast a bunch of tiny shims on one tree, I am sure it takes a good amount o pressure and timing to get that right in the process. It does have the slightly dropped down center section to try and get the battery weight as low as possible. I have been more into the older kits so I am not sure when this started and how long it was carried on for. I think it is a great buggy and I am close to having it ready. I ruined, I mean painted the body last night... you'll see soon... I failed well!

    Great to hear your thoughts on the Dirt Master build. 👍Funny you should mention the chassis being almost entirely black, I thought the same thing! Thank David! I really do like the buggy so far, it feels very nice and very rigid but still light. I think it is going to drive wonderfully as well. I am very happy with the feel of the 35 weight oil in the shocks. The bad thing about the wheels is I has an odd habit/quirk where I start the build mounting the tires on the wheels. I don't know why but that is my thing. I had already glued them before realizing the whole buggy was blacked out. The good thing is there are plenty of wheel option out there i can use so at some point if I decide to go all stealth on it I can! Take care!

    Not guna lie, this one's got me very tempted..... especially after seeing all of Sean's @ toys their not running videos of it around the track.

    Your description of the excess nubbins pingage did make me laugh mate! 🤣 😂
    Loved the build photo montage, beautifully edited with precision..... gave a lovely picture of how the build comes together.
    Like I say, this one's getting carefully considered with potential to joining the green hawks fleet, and I generally don't buy anything too modern, favouring the classics!

      Sometimes its good to hold tight mate..... the waiting is half the fun!
      And yes, it certainly looks like it can perform on the track, after all, it's derived from a decent racing buggy.
      It was holding it's own against an RC10B6 around the track in one of Sean's videos!!!

      Thanks! This one caught my eye the moment they announce it! I have been stalking it and wait for it since then! It is a great more modern chassis paired with the classic styling, I love it. I have done a few Kyosho kits and this one is all plastic compared to their legendary series that have much more metal components but it is super light and very rigid. I think it is going to make a great running buggy. I think Kyosho has always done exceptionally well in the quality of their kits and this is no different.

      Thanks Ryan, it is a really nice feeling chassis and it went together very well. The instructions are not the best of the best but were still very good. their biggest error was not labeling the parts trees to make it much easier for a beginner racer to build it as the intent is for this to be an intro racer. It is still easy enough to follow and figure everything out though. Everything feels nice and precision on it for sure.

      I am just hopeful the pain job turns out as nice on the body as it looks in my head!! Those little bit getting snipped off of those harder plastics we nuts! Things were flinging all over the place. I tried block one with my hand and it stung my palm so it just let them fly! The 1060 is a great, low cost all purpose brushed ESC. The 1080 is more capable but for the buggies the 1060 is a great way to go! The suspension on this seems spot on perfect out of the box. I am running slightly lighter oil than the recommended range but it looks and feel perfect on the drop test! It did make me smile one the first drop as it settled down perfectly! Those plastic nuts did make my eyes roll! Even more so when they gave you two to help bolt the front end on, so I know they have them! Oh well, new ones should be here soon! Take care!

      Yeah it just took a long time for it to show up in the states! I got to see all my friends from all over gat and build theirs first! I was a bit jealous but the found all the pain points for me so building mine was nice and easy! So sometimes being first isn't all that great! LOL! Yeah I have looked at some of the listing for RB5 parts and they are sparse and expensive! I feel this is plenty robust and I doubt I break it but of course if you are racing it chances are breakages will be more frequent. It is a good question about them offering upgrade parts. I think it depends on the sales volume and profitability of the upgrade parts. I think they may offer them since it seem the kits have been doing rather well. It would be cool if they offered a Dirt Master Pro with the original RB5 plastics and features just with the DM body on it. I think those would sell well as long as the price doesn't double!

    How do u think it compares to tamiya dt Range ? Think this build might make me angry 😂

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      The DTs from Tamiya are going to be much easier to build but the quality and adjustability of the DM is better overall. I love the DTs but this is a league above them as it was created originally to be a true racer. the fitment, adjustability, the plastics and rigidness of the chassis are all better than the DTs. I don't think you'd get mad, especially if you ignore the part numbers and just find the parts and use calipers for the shims! The parts are bagged in steps and for the most part all the parts you need are in those bags. Occasionally there is a missing part that is from a previous bag but it is noted in the manual that you need parts from bag 2 and 5 so it is not frustrating. I enjoyed the build but I did have a heads up of some of the issues prior to building mine so it was not frustrating for me.

    how did you find the instructions , they really need to step it up .

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are the old instructions that were done for more of the racer market who often deviate from the base design anyway so they are lacking some clarity. I knew going in there were a few shortcomings to it and did not try to hunt for parts and shims by number. Most of the parts were easy to identify quickly and the shims I used the calipers to just measure them instead of trying to find them by the tree numbers and locations. Overall I did not hate them but yes, they should have revised them to make it a bit easier to follow for the hobbyist market!

    @simonkubacki9823 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How similar/ different is this from your JEGs buggy?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Similar is size and style of chassis but worlds apart in the quality and strength. The stinger is not bad but it is not as good of a plastic and the the DM all clips and snaps everything into place as it goes together making a very solid chassis. The Jegs is just not as rigid and strong. The DM is way more adjustable as the stock Stinger has fixed plastic rods all over. Performance wise I fell the DM is going to have a big advantage as well as the suspension feels dialed right out of the box and the Stinger needs a lot of tuning left to do to get it right. the Stinger also feels a lot more sloppy in all the suspension joints and the steering assembly as well. Granted the DM is the RB5 just redone in a cheaper plastic and plastic shocks so it is more of a true race buggy than Stinger is. I am sure I could get the Stinger closer in feel but it will take some time and some more parts for sure!
