The Curious Silence of Anwar Ibrahim

Anwar Ibrahim is an impressive figure. A compelling speaker, media-savvy, and admired by just about everyone-from The New York Times to the Council on Foreign Relations to people like Mehdi Hasan, as he charms everyone everywhere.
Despite basking in the global spotlight, despite being celebrated on the world stage, despite presenting himself as a hero for Muslims and as the rightful leader of Malaysia, it's easy to see that something is off the moment you look closely enough... Why is it that his own people don’t seem to love him the same way?
Anyone who has seen Anwar Ibrahim knows he can talk.
    That much is obvious.
But whether he actually follows through on his words is a different question.
It’s one thing to say all the right things. It’s another to say them and then not act on them - to rely on others to do the work but never quite succeed in leading them to do what needs to be done. That is the problem with Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, who is revered for his ability to speak, but maybe a little less for his ability to actually take concrete action on matters of race and religion as parties like PAS run riot, and intercommunal tensions come to the fore with no resolution or comment from the country's highest leader.
Add to that the fact that the average person seems to care more about Anwar being the Prime Minister of Palestine than the Prime Minister of Malaysia... Not because the Palestinian cause isn’t important, but because he doesn’t seem to be paying attention to what’s happening at home - and
what you get is a growing mix of frustration, disillusionment, and even outright resentment from the average Malaysian.
The people who voted for him don’t feel protected or helped by him regardless of his high-handed words - and those who didn’t have hijacked the narrative, using extremist rhetoric, manipulating religious sentiment, and turning his role as Prime Minister into something else entirely as they openly mock him but he never responds - but how much can a man avoid polemics, say, and not look weak?
Not very much more, it appears.
So where does all of this lead?
    It’s hard to say.
But one thing is certain. There was a time when Malaysians looked at Anwar Ibrahim with hope.
    Maybe they still can.
But if hope is to be found, it won’t be found in the status quo - it will have to be found in a stronger Anwar... Or someone who can play that role.
Thanks for watching, and see you in the next one!

He must speak up more, not to remain silent. Otherwise he will give up on his 2nd term.
A reference from 1980 PAP Rally in Singapore from late former PM Lee Kuan Yew who stopped a strike by SIA pilots. And he quoted "Whoever governs Singapore must have that iron in him. Or give it up".
And eventually Singapore became a global hub, even when the country faced challenges after gaining independence.

@ Absolutely! Yeah, he definitely has to speak - it’s a shame that he has such abilities that we can see on the international stage but that at home, we constantly see him either giving a minimal portion or restrained because he appears afraid of his own shadow; he has the ability to capture the Malays and lead them for sure, but he is underperforming his potential. 😔

He is more known for his views on Palestine and his ambition to rebuild it, yet he is needed at home to address racism and the opportunists exploiting race and religion to divide Malaysians. He remains silent and has never condemned those inciting disharmony in his own country. Thus, there is no point in him discussing unity when he cannot take a firm stance or show conviction as a leader.

If he is not Prime Minister for all Malaysians, then he can shut up his big mouth. Otherwise, we Malaysians who voted and supported are at high risks of being bullied. At the moment, Siti Mastura just by calling another person communist is bullying the Chinese in general. Akmal by not accepting ham as normally he is also anti Chinese or bullying the Chinese. I am fed up of these people of being Malaysians with me.

He is not voicing on certain issues that arises like the quota for education in higher learning intuition and aslo the halal issues. He want to emulate his former Boss Dr.M trying to be the champion for others rather than the Malaysians. Does not Anwar knows that welfare and charity begins at home. Betul.

    2 possible reasons:
    1. Anwar's silence may be rooted in fear-fear of offending someone, stirring controversy, or stepping on the wrong toes. Given his turbulent history and previous time spent in jail, he may be choosing to remain silent to avoid landing in trouble again. In the current political landscape, where words can have serious consequences, staying silent may be his way of safeguarding himself.
    2. He feels that no one respect him and no one will listen to him. This sense of being disregarded might lead him to feel that speaking up would be futile. In such a situation, silence might seem like the only rational choice-better to say nothing than to be ignored.

learn . from the following quotations
“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ”

Anwar always giving excuse of "not interfering" with important issue... late Lee Kuan Yew once asked about the accusation of him interfering with private life of Singaporean.. His answer was, if he didn't interfere with their private life, Singapore won't be here today..

    • @VictorTan
      @VictorTan  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yes, absolutely! But to want to interfere you have to know what to interfere in and why, and if you are to know what to interfere in and why, then you need to know your people.
Watching him gallivant around and throw up measures that he THINKS are going to convince people while failing to deal with those that we KNOW are going to either in the short term (when sabar, sabar is tolerable) or in the long term (we can tell if the arc of his actions is tailored towards reaching the result) while failing to satisfy our expectations either of his short term actions or direction towards long term aspirations is somewhat disappointing, because it showcases that even the question of trying to intervene in our lives to improve them is not something that the man is thinking about or equipped to do.

non bumi and non muslim in malaysia may see anwar as Pro malay/muslim and conservative but trust me, as malay i see lot of malay see him as liberal and DAP puppet. so far anwar try to play safe by plying both side. even his policy on pro palestine is nothing more then a politic gimmick to win malay vote. after all malay is the majority in malaysia so malay vote do play major role for him to stay in power. if he change his policy to be 100% liberal, im sure majority malay wont vote for him. even if all non bumi vote for him, his still cant win. that the thing about democracy, the majority vote is the one that make decision. im not saying he is the best PM but it will be better to have him compare to any politician member from PAS to be PM. so far most ultra nationalist malay/muslim choose for PAS instead of UMNO and trust me that live under PAS will be far worse then UMNO economically and socially.

The words louder ,but no action....sometimes we need to remain silent and action in silence is better, rather than we talks about it and lead to national sensitive issues....he knows he is the country num one leader if he openly talks about some issues then it's wil become more sensitive among people's...maybe that's the reason he remain silent and sort out the issues....
