US Testing Drone Swarm Capability - Perdix Swarm
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 21 ต.ค. 2024
- This is footage of a 2016 drone swarm test conducted by the US at China Lake, California. The Perdix Swarm Demonstrations and testing proved that these swarms could be dropped by aircraft at speeds up-to Mach 0.6 and at temperatures as low as -10 degrees C. These drones, specifically, were designed for aerial surveillance, though more applications would undoubtedly be evaluated (such as explosive payloads). 103 drones are dropped from three F/A-18's, converging on their final target a few minutes later.
Each individual drone is not controlled in itself but instead it shares a collective, distributed "brain," travelling in leaderless "swarms," members of which can adapt to changes in drone numbers and remain coordinated with their counterparts.

Insane. I was an Infantryman in the 80's. I do not want to be an Infantryman in the 2030's.
I was attached to USMC 1st MARDIV, Lima 3/5 as a Hospital Corpsman in the early 1980's. Couldn't imagination conducting first aid with swarms of these flying around inflicting carnage.
Shoot, urban combat in Baghdad was bad enough. What with not being able to pin point shot origins because of the echos. Couldn’t imagine hearing that buzz.
Life expectancy is 2 weeks in Ukraine at the front for the AFU because of BOBR
@borregoayudando1481 Way worse.
Watching the combat footage in Ukraine is pretty horrifying, suicide drones on both sides
Upcoming ww3 around 2025-2030 is going to be a scary world
Whether these are recon or carry a small payload, it's terrifying to watch on a screen. Couldn't imagine having this form on you in real life.
Oh and that sound. Have enough that you can't tell which way to even attempt to defend or run. Absolute terror.
Yeah, they even come with built-in horror-movie sound effect too, just because.
@@axelord4ever 😂 imagine hearing that knowing each of those hundreds of drones is a flying grenade
Wouldn't take long to clear a trench network .
Would be a shame if somebody wired a magnetron to a car battery...
Oh wow. Hearing the sound of that drone swarm above, knowing that it's made by flying grenades, would be absolutely horrifying. Psychological warfare on par with the Stuka siren.
Yea id just say „Screw you guys Im going home
STUKA pilots would be proud of the terrifying effect this would have one people for the first time.
Or screaming mimis
I like it!
H.G. Wells “War of the Worlds” level sound.
I could totally see myself explaining the sound these things make to my VA shrink.
Hearing loss deemed not service related 🤣
What they told me
Imagine hearing this on a night patrol
Intimidation factor is real
NOT THE BEES!
Enemy: Alexa! Gtfoh!
Yea then they start landing and exploding
shit is straight from the animatrix or something
I'm sure they're way more advanced by now. Imagine being an infantry soldier, hunkered down at night, and you hear the sound of all those drones, and you realize "That's a swarm!", but by then, it's too late.
Not forgetting that they can see just fine at night.
Even just a single suicide bomber drone is already scary enough. By the time you hear the whirring from the rotors, it's already too late.
They are and why Australia built MQ28A Ghost Bat most advanced AI combat drone in the world and has drone swarm AI capabilities. also small quad copter drones fired from M40 grenade launchers also have AI drone swarm capabilitiy
@@kencarpenter1363not necessarily true. This specific system went obsolete in 2021 and was one use only test. It didn't use FLIR, lidar, or thermal imaging. Just pure SLAM
@@WhatIsLove170 not true. you can hear the drone before you can see it.(literally) That is there biggest downside is how loud they are. as an ex guerilla fighter when you hear the buzzing you simply go back into your cave or tunnel lol.
One day, this is gonna become another terrifying sounds of war. With dozens of drones coming for attack, it sounds like the sky is screaming for death.
The true horror will come when they are capable of functioning silently. The only thing you'll be hearing is random explosions and screaming comrades.
@@WhatBeDaPointMonhmmm. Everyone echoing your statement made me worry about my own drone research...
Hopefully the only people who will hear it are the people who are making them

If you can jam their GPS/other frequencies they would be of little threat unless they have IR cameras and onboard AI
If this was 2016, Imagine what they can do now that drones are proven highly effective in combat...

The thing is the US has been using drones for deacdes alrdy. We alrdy know they are efftive. Isis starting using granade dropping drone back in 2010

What about emps? Then drones are no good?
Remember in Vietnam when auditory warfare was deployed with the loudspeakers mounted on boats that blared extremely disturbing sounds and voices? These swarm drone drops are next level except this time its not just a recording coming from an auditory source. The sound of these drones signifies that enemy location awareness has been achieved and they make it known. It can and should panic enemy forces.
Technology exists now where they can transmit sound over distance using a laser. So you can torture your enemy depending on their religion or beliefs and have ghosts or figures from religion literally speaking to them.
Im not sure they would sound like this today. This is from from 2016, and now they've got some sweet new rotor technology that's not shrieky. Single blade.. toroid something something.
thought the same fn thing. that noise is stuff of nightmares
@@jedimindtrixr4kidz294 !!! Oh, wow. Great point. Thanks for that info. Imagine having specified drone units simply to deploy recon as well as confuse the enemy on the battlefield though. I find it to be possibly viable in particular, but very limited, situations.
@@Kreedogger Yeah seeing all the footage coming out of Ukraine, just the sound of a single one of those things must be terrifying. A whole swarm could trigger some mass surrendering.
This footage is from 2016, but drones were first used in Desert storm, they had gps signals on them to emulate fighter jets, activating SAM sites, SAM sites would use their AA ammunition on the drones instead of real jets. When SAM sites activated, F18s fired their HARM (high speed anti radiation missiles) that use RADIO frequency of the SAM site to guide them to the target.
yeah i remember watching a youtube video about this and my mind was blown. The US was really playing 4D chess with more advanced weapon systems.
@@haydonlee US is so far ahead technologically when it comes to Military its mind boggling.
Wow if they got a lock on you your done..
Holy fuck.
Drones have been around since the 1st world war
And imagine how much they've evolved over the last 8yrs...friggin' crazy !
and its only going to get faster and scarier
ahh sweet man made horrors beyond my comprehension
That moment when the drones formed a circle. . and then converged on the center. That right there is the stuff of nightmares. Anyone remember the movie Screamers?
I was thinking more "killer bees" or "Alfred Hitchcock's Birds"
Exactly what I was thinking of...
Carrier has arrived...
Anyone remember the plot of black ops 2!?!???
Well, that’s delightfully horrifying 😅
Tech moved hard since 2016. thats for sure.
2:20 the terrifying sound of a new era
Have them play Ride of the Valkyrie as their signature sound.
Oddball was right- it scares the hell out of people.
1) Integrate such a swarm into himars launched missiles.
2) Equip all drones with different sensors ( ⅓ IR, ⅓ radar, ⅓ visual) and warheads (⅓HE, ⅓AT, ⅓ frag), this gives you all options with minimal size per drone.
3) Teach swarm AI to search area of operation, locate and designate targets to individual drones.
4) Man in the loop option fits here.
5) First wave of drones goes in.
6) rest observes result, reevaluates situation.
7) next wave goes in.
8) repeat step 6-7 until all drones are gone.
9) ???
10) If you're one of the engineers working on this and you guys are still looking for a catchy name, consider naming your product "Skynet", especially if you leave out step 4.
Sounds like its time to move to a different planet 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Exactly. Computer vision trained to target high value targets using visible light wavelengths and radar, and heat-seeking anti-personnel drones. Put it in something that isn't GPS-guided (like an ATACMS) to prevent signals jamming and you have a weapon to make a base completely inoperable with a couple of missiles. The future is in cheap drones with good software.
Oh yeah let’s do what a TH-camr thinks to list, yes lists win wars, totally laughable bunch of nonsense. Drones will be obsolete faster than they came. You should see what artillery can do
Ahaha stupid! You realize all of that depends on electromagnetic spectrum, and that a single electromagnetic pulse would drop all of those like flies, hahaha you’re so pathetic talking about software like it’s still 1967!!! Ahahahahahaha

I wouldn’t say way more advanced they are for sure further along. Was huge debate inside about building individual UAV platforms or should they upgrade the MQ-9 reaper. They decide by all accounts to stay with reaper. Which IMO is to costly a platform and does not lend itself for routine missions. I believe this thought has probably shifted because Ukraine theatre showed the adaptability and flexibility of individual mission specific platforms versus these massive all in one expensive platforms.
Are you familiar with our research?
I’m reminded of a quote front the late Bill Paxton “…game over man, GAME OVER!”
There's no reason these swarms couldn't also be deployed from systems such as ATACMS, Tomahawk/ALCM, cluster munition canisters, and potentially even space based reentry vehicles.
If each has a 40mm grenade equivalent, or AT shaped charge like SMaRT, the battlefield could become dominated by these.
do you think that the drones will fly 500 km to complete the mission?, that's about the distance at which the plane will be shot down by anti-aircraft defense
They do have a ground base launcher, it's called LOCUST launch system.
@@hartman12349 I'm not sure your calculations are accurate. After all, two Iranian generals were killed in Damascus last night by someone's cruise missile. It appears air defense never saw it coming?
@@everypitchcounts4875 Yes, but a ground launcher is tactical. Air delivery, or missile delivery makes them strategic. A smart, intercontinental weapon available on a moment's notice.
A B-2/B-21 launches 12 ALCM with 100 drones each to wreck havoc on enemy air defense and rear supply like we see in Ukraine, except it's 1200 of these suddenly appearing from aircraft flying out of Missouri 10 hours earlier.
There is a short movie criticizing this developement, which is made to look like an advertisement, selling tiny drones which have a shaped charge and are released from a large military cargo plane, they are dropped over a city and they start working through a hitlist of people. The salesman explains how you can target people individualy and by certain features. Should still be on yt.

It's November 2012. You make your way to your closest GameStop for the midnight release of Black Ops 2. They are handing out slices of pizza. You hear bickering back and forth on how this person is going to stomp this person in Team Death Match. You snag your copy and rush home knowing you are playing all night and calling out sick the next day. You see the first A10 warthog ingame, and witness a swarm not far after, and you know, this is going to be a great year.
Omg, the flashbacks, thank you brother, lol
