The point about declutter, and then go back and do it again, is soooo true. You find even more stuff to get rid of that you didn't the first time around. Thanks Rachel 😊
'Act before you think', you said. So I turned you off, went downstairs, did the dishes, cleaned the sink and the cooker, did a pile of ironing, and now I'm going to bed earlier than yesterday. A triumph! Thank you.
You never cease to inspire me. My house looks clean and decluttered, I have a place for everything, and I have lived by the one touch rule for so long, I feel like I invented it. …….but…..the layers of stuff just keep revealing themselves. I have partial containers of cleaners, specific cleaners, etc. under my kitchen sink. They are nice and neat, corralled in containers,…..but….. The bathroom under sink is the same……. I also am struggling with my linen closet. I have medical supplies, bandages and such, left over from one of my children, (20 years ago). There is a guilty feeling about throwing them out, also, do bandages expire?…. The donation places in my area don’t take these things……. My self talk is more like “I want to be minimal and organized” vs. I want to be frugal and not wasteful. Yikes!!!…..what a dilemma.
Things with adhesive and elastic do wear out. You can open some and see if they're still usable and then offer them in a freecycle Facebook group - same with cleaners. I've taken old cleaners to the dump, they have a specific area to dispose of them, because I had gotten some from my mom that had been sitting for so long, no one would want to use them. It's better in the dump than making us feel guilty in our home! ❤️

Ooooh what is this practice called...kind of like daily affirmations....I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, I'm skinny enough.... It sounds a bit cliche but it really works to negate all the negative self talk that we do to ourselves. I've been watching several 'minimalist' channels and I can't help but think it's more like being 'organized' and not having an abundance of 'stuff'. There's far too much coming at us from all directions trying to convince us to buy XYZ. I feel I've turned a corner and am on a roll with purging and organizing! Love all these vids!!
Psychology 101 for the home technician! Your family have won the lottery with you, so have we the 'viewers' who've discovered you and your inspiring videos.Thank you x (I'm definitely getting off the couch now to do some stuff!)
I giggled about the place for everything! I still put my purse at the door, then on the chair in the kitchen, then on the freezer, then move to get in freezer to the spot in bedroom. Shuffling! Makes a lot of work. Thanks for bringing it to mind as a waste of time and energy.
I just subscribed! This could not have come at a better time. I have 2 weeks to clear out a finished basement full of old toys, games, photo albums on shelves, music I never listen to but want for nostalgic purposes…and turn it into a little apartment for a family member. Ugh. The kids have grown up and moved out. Why do I feel like I need to keep a dozen Nerf guns? 😂 I work and it’s so hard to find time and energy for the bigger projects, but I have to get it in gear for this one. Thanks for the encouragement and motivation. I think I’m going to binge watch/listen to your videos today while I work on it. 💪
Awesome! Those sentimental items... we have to grieve the fact that that season of life is over. It's hard! But you will feel such a relief when it's done. ❤️
I don't remember where I read it or heard it, but one of my favorites is the 'one minute task' rule -- Wherever you are in your home, just STOP and look around. Anything you can see that needs done that can be done in one minute or less, do it NOW. You really can complete 10 tasks in just 10 minutes, and it can make a world of difference! Try it!
Great tips, Rachel! I've taken everything out of my closet and am sorting, purging, reorganizing, and donating a lot of it. It feels good to let go of so many items!!
Great tips! I’m likely to follow all of these tips but it’s near impossible to get my grown son to do the same. I just feel the more decluttering I do I will see a difference and it will help with my anxiety.
My rule is that "community" areas only hold community items, so if we all use it, it can be stored there, but if it belongs to one person, it needs to be stored in their personal space. People with spouses that like to collect have found some sense of relief with their spouse having complete control over different rooms, garage or out buildings that the "neat" spouse promises to not mess with. Then each person has their rooms they feel they can control/manage.
That's what I'm doing I'm working on one room now. If I don't see results it bugs me. I am trying to get rid of almost everything. I want my result to be extensive.
I'm not sure- the things I got rid of that I found I could have used later were easy to replace or make do without. If you're afraid of being overly zealous with decluttering, but those things in a box and date them 6 months or so out. After 6 months, if you haven't thought of them, let them go, knowing that you took time to be sure.

That is what I have been doing..layers..first run thru and donate..now second run thru to declutter

What's great is picking up or decluttering JUST ONE thing often leads to another and another. And presto, you are on your way : D

How do I handle my husband who loves stuff/clutter ?! We live in a small house and his clutter is non-stop.

Is it ok to empty the basement and donate everything to the thrift store?
😍👍🏻
What do you do if you regret something you’ve gotten of? currently struggling to keep going, in fear I might get rid of something I regret… again 😞
