While I was in the army, we built our own tac site which was home for a while, but now that place is also gone. It's just a natural thing for military stations to move around as equipment changes, local population expands and moves, strategic partnerships change, and potential enemies change.

this is a misrepresentation of Koreas general population and true reasoning. the majority of Koreans doesn't want them gone. not every citizen likes the presence of foreign military forces, but generally Koreans understand why. Koreans would like to have that huge spot in the centre of Seoul to be upgraded in infrastructure and be used for businesses and residents, since it isn't necessary for the huge base to be smack-dad in the middle of Seoul (Seoul and with that SK, is geographically small and needs every bit of space to accomodate its citizens). also, that base is geographically outdated, since skyscrapers tower all around it. you wouldn't find a huge military base in the middle of NYC, LA, SF or Miami either, would you? and just to clarify: South Korea can handle North Korea without issues. nuclear power can be achieved by SK quickly. the problem lies with the Chinese and Russian allies, which i think the US will have problems dealing with alone as well. thats why a united front, with the US, Korea, Japan, Phillipines, Turkey, France, India, Australia etc. is so crucial. each and every one of us would lose on our own
I served my military service in the Yongsan garrison as a KATUSA. I liked the ambiance of the garrison. Even now, I missed it. Its like a military base in new york central park
What I gathered from this video is that the base is being transitioned to accommodate gentrification in the fact that it's prime real estate in the area. If I am wrong, let me know. But I doubt it.
Shannon Green yes it is great real estate for the South Koreans it’s in their capital after all and it’s to risky keeping it their North Korea has huge artillery battery’s facing Seoul and if they do use one of their nukes you can bet it would be on Seoul this place is no longer strategically a smart place for a base.
I’m here now and this base is really sad looking and there’s nothing to do here
Cool, let the people have their land. Also, we are getting a new base anyway. Same thing happens in the US. Fort Gilliam, here in Georgia, use to be a full base, now it's just a enclave for MEPS and the rest is a movie studio for people like Tyler Perry. It's where I swore in into the Army.
The base was officially replaced by Camp Humphreys, the largest US oversea military base in the world.
Nice choice of words for the title. No risk of misinterpretation at all.... 😒
And Why "Fake News" word was invented.
Ironic that the people protesting the US presence would not be able to exercise that right had the US NEVER BEEN THERE.
No one is saying US should have never helped. We are forever grateful but having troops stationed in our country is expensive and soldiers always cause problems so I can see why people dislike them
U.S. Military.
I would like to say thank you!
As a Korean citizen myself, without your support of protecting our land.
We would have never grown to what it is now.
And do not mind that lady activist who opposes of the base. She does not know what your support did for our country.
Thank you! Wooah!
Walked past this place. Remember I was surprised by that sign US property. Hehe. Some good restaurants near here. 😋
Actually, the land and facilities are provided and possessed by South Korea - other equipments are US property, and South Korea give a lot of money for US force.
@@bariforever3611 yeah. Many people don't know they are paid to protect them. But I was still surprised walking around Seoul randomly finding this. 😁
Yongsan was and/or is not that small yongsan, population about three million people.
Best base 👏 leaving it is deeply felt. RIP Yongsan Garrison.
So were gonna ignore camp Casey?
Thought this was gonna be about Camp Casey. I got a little bummed for a minute
Too many troops at Camp Humphrey’s. Nothing more than a target for a North Korean nuclear missile.
*laughs in THAD*
If they launch a nuke then the world has bigger problems
Yeah....lets just build one big base....
Dont make sense to me ....smaller bases scattered around seems more logical for a defense.???
And this is the thanks we get for making South Korea prosperous.
When I looked at the title, I thought Trump decided to shutdown a major base to please NK.
On my trip to Seoul I passed this place the tour bus passes next to it . It was so big and had posters of "US government" over it wondered what is was that was like a week and few days ago looks pretty cool
RIP Quality Journalism
I lived there
Hope they make a tourists attraction on it! 😁😁😁
North side (Above Itaewon-ro) will likely have most buildings demolished and new high-rise buildings go up. South side (below Itaewon-ro, will have the Dragon Hill Resort, the US Embassy, and the rest will be the new Yongsan Park. At least, that was what was stated about 2 years ago when I was last there.
Korea doesn’t have tourists
Good reporting. Just one thing. if u Americans want another Korean war, pull ur troops from South Korea.
I was at csmp humphreies in 90 and 91 i was 20 and 21 i miss ot bad
Without U.S. Forces in Korea, South Korea would probably fall in 72 hours without us.
America should hurry up suspended relocating plans that was supposed to do. Camp Humprey is much bigger and safer than Yong San. Why so lazy about it?
You cannot give a man a peanut and expect him to have a farm the next day. Have patience, Yong San will be South Korean property again, just let these men and women say their goodbyes and have everything packed up first.
@김우성
Hey as a fellow Korean myself.
Your are an ungrateful person!
Or are you just that naive!
We as Koreans should thank the U.S. Armed Forces!
People like yourself makes us look bad.
And just grow up!
@@Mrskybigp You sound like indeginous dwarf pirate who support america on the surface, at the same time support china and japan like waving and kneeling down for chinese flag during LeeMongBak administrations.

Dude you just need some milk
@@Mrskybigp Its betrayor who forces patriotism to others.
This is only a view of a mere organization without a majority view. Many in Korea are grateful for America's presence and efforts
So S.Korea wants their savior/hero to leave because of trees
