  • Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with President Reagan's Daughter, Patti Davis, Author of “Floating in the Deep End: How Caregivers Can See Beyond Alzheimer's”
    About Harvey's guest:
Today’s special guest came to international attention first as an engaging movie and TV star, and then as the refreshingly outspoken daughter of President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan.
Then, starting in 1986, she emerged as one of the most thoughtful, versatile and prolific authors in America. Her novels, like “Home Front”, “A House of Secrets”, “Bondage”, “Till Human Voices Wake Us” and “The Earth Breaks in Colors”, envelop us in a fusion of her own life experiences, world view, and insights into the human spirit. But she’s probably best known for her frank, candid and deeply personal books, “The Way I See It”, “Angels Don’t Die: My Father’s Gift of Faith”, and “The Long Goodbye: Memories of My Father”, that allowed us to get to know and understand her and her family.
She also produced what is widely considered to be the definitive book about the mother-daughter relationship, entitled, “The Lives Our Mothers Leave Us: Prominent Women Discuss the Complex, Humorous, and Ultimately Loving Relationships They Have with Their Mothers”.
Her latest book, entitled “Floating in the Deep End: How Caregivers Can See Beyond Alzheimer's”, is a piercingly honest and deeply moving account of the challenges involved in caring for someone stricken with Alzheimer’s, inspired by her own experiences in taking care of her father, President Reagan, in the final years of his life. She’s outspoken, passionate, compassionate, and always compelling.

I have been a fan of Patti’s heart and social justice for decades. She is so honest and I feel that for many of us there is an understanding about experiences and pain that do not need to be explained to each other. I saw that when you shared your heartbreaking experience at 19 Harvey. I’m so so sorry to hear that. I know it must have formed so much of your own fight for justice. Thank you for bringing her to us.

I watched interviews of Ms. Davis after her first book and thought she was a very down to earth, really cool chick. She still is. Thanks to this interview, I’m off to Amazon for some new reads.

@@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 I subscribed after the first video I watched. To be perfectly honest, you are the best interviewer I’ve ever seen. You show such respect to your guests, not through a simpering, fawning manner as many do, but by intensely researching their work and formulating thoughtful and insightful questions and comments. This really draws your guests out and it’s evident that each one has been delighted to have spoken with you.

The impression I always had of Ron and Nancy Reagan is if they were born several decades later they would not have had children. It was expected to have children in the 50s and they seem like they would’ve been perfectly happy and fulfilled had they never had them. Patti in a way said that during her mother’s memorial service when she spoke of her mother and father sitting on the beach perfectly content just to be with each other and everybody else was not included.

She is a staunch liberal democrat.

Now, if only democrats could control Hollywood.
      Or main stream media.
      Or our educational systems.
      Or (public) television.
If only they could find a way to be dishonest and tyrannical.
...but nah, that would be wrong now wouldnt it.
      It would be non "democracy".
      We all get it.

Reagan was the best President we ever had. I did not care for Nancy at all.
