  • Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Sara Karloff, Daughter of Legendary Master of Horror, Boris Karloff
    About Harvey's guest:
Today’s special guest, Sara Karloff, is the only child of one of the greatest and most beloved cinematic legends of all time - the master of horror, Boris Karloff.
Although this brilliant British actor made 174 movies and demonstrated remarkable versatility, in films like “The Criminal Code”, “Scarface”, “The Public Defender”, “Five Star Final”, ”The Lost Patrol”, “The House of Rothschild”, and “The Body Snatcher”, he is most definitely best remembered for his iconic roles in such horror classics as “Frankenstein”, “Bride of Frankenstein”, “Son of Frankenstein”, “The Mummy”, “The Old Dark House”, “The Black Room”, “The Black Cat” and “The Raven”.
He appeared in many television shows, and starred in 3 TV series of his own: “Thriller”, “Colonel March” and “The Veil”. And who can ever forget his portrayal of the Grinch in the classic animated Christmas special, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, for which he won a Grammy Award.
Aside from his iconic work on film and television, he appeared in dozens of radio shows and stage productions, including the role of “Captain Hook” in Peter Pan on Broadway opposite Jean Arthur. And he earned a Tony award nomination for his performance on Broadway opposite Julie Harris, in “The Lark”. He also made over 20 children’s recordings for Cademon Records.
And of course, his instantly recognizable voice inspired the 1962 hit song by Bobby Pickett, “The Monster Mash”. He was a charter member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, and he’s one of the very few stars to have been awarded TWO stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for his work in movies, and one for his work on television. And in 1997, the U.S. Postal Service honoured him as Frankenstein's Monster and the Mummy in its "Classic Monster Movie Stamps" series.

If you’re a fan of our show, you’ll know that we have a special playlist entitled “Gone But Not Forgotten”, featuring the children and/or associates of the greatest legendary stars of all time. I was so delighted and honored when Boris Karloff’s daughter Sara agreed to appear on our show. She has spent her entire life honoring her father’s legacy. She’s a wonderful person and I think it shows that we really enjoyed each other’s company!

Sara does a commendable job in keeping the legacy of her father alive. Her thanks for this is all of the love she receives from her father's fans - and make no mistake, the fans love her father because he was a wonderfully humble gentleman, and so she gets all this loving feedback. She will be 86 November 23, 2024 - she was born during the filming of "Son of Frankenstein".

This was pure delight. Sara Karloff is such a great personality. She has style wit, and taste. A truly wonderfully simpatico woman who had so much to tell of her formidable and humble father.
Small wonder that she was so impressed with you, for your excellent homework. All your interview objects are and so are we listeners.
I just wish that all talkshow hosts were as well prepared. I suppose it has something to do with your former career in the legal system. You had to know your stuff and always be well prepared?
What really gets me is this: How come your videos havent at least 10.000 views? You interview Stephanie Powers, Loretta Swit, Robert Wagner, Ava Gardners close relatives etc and so many many other interesting persons, your questions are on the spot.
Is it just a question of time - ppl havent found out about you yet?

This was such a great interview, loved it! I loved hearing about Boris' career especially the This is Your Life episode and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! You really are a terrific interviewer as she said! I only wish there was a mention of the two films he did with the comedians, Abbott and Costello. I would have loved to hear about his experiences with the duo!

Harvey's interview style reminds me very much of the late Elwy Yost who was on TV Ontario for many years. Both interviewers love the subject and continually look at the positive side of the entertainment industry. Very enjoyable to watch. Also, the depth of his subject matter based on detailed research reminds me of the work of Brian Linehan, another Canadian interviewer.
