Review: A Happy Box of Milhaud's Happy Life and Music

Subtitled "Une Vie Heureuse" ("A Happy Life"), this 10-CD Erato set contains a wide-ranging and excellent survey of Darius Milhaud's amazingly prolific output. You get symphonies, concertos, chamber music, choruses, ballets, songs, and a disc of historical recordings led by the composer himself. Sound quality varies with the period (roughly 1950s through modern digital), but the performances are really fine, and the music remarkably, consistently interesting and worth hearing.
