Put your damn phone away. Ten minutes in and she had to check her phone three times. Other than that, very insightful and informative.

Yes. You CAN write about someone you hate. Sometimes it is obligatory - if you have any sense of self-integrity.

Absolutely! Preferably, not hate, but you can write about people you disagree with who lie, cheat, and steal. Yes, if you have any integrity, you will write about that person.

To an outsider, like me, watching the political events in America, the overriding impression is mayhem on a level which equates to kindergarteners squabbling over territory in the sand pit. Refreshing to hear the opinions of a clear eyed grown up from that good example of a benighted country.

Thank goodness for folks like Maggie Haberman, Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway. Still reporting the unadulterated truths even at their own risk. IF our democracy survives, but it's not looking good at the moment, we will all owe folks like Ms. Haberman a huge debt of gratitude. Sadly, we're Americans so we are rarely grateful for or about anyone or anything.

No Maggie it’s not gender based when people call out KellyAnne Conway for being a pathological liar. If she’s out there more than most/ as she was at the time/ then people are going to call her out and it’s not because she’s a woman.
I know you like to have that said about you from your defenders that the hate Maggie gets is gender biased-even tho it’s so obviously not & based upon your ethics in journalism. As a woman I find it gross when a woman gets piled up on unfairly but I find it even worse when a woman gets legitimate criticism but refuses to hear it & deflects it as a gender thing.
It’s Cheap Maggie & should be beneath you.

I love Maggie. There's nothing more attractive than intelligence, but covering Trump is the one thing where I disagree with her.
Her attempt to treat him "fairly" sticks out in a way that seems unnatural and illogical. And, in attempting to find something good to say about him and to come to his defence, she allows him to get away with everything from bad behavior to criminal activity. He gets a pass, and his followers are reinforced with the notion that he's really just like other politicians, and how his celebrity status somehow outweighs his past.
The only president to have been impeached twice, to have been accused of mistreatment by countless women, to have attempted the overthrow of the government he once lead, to have encouraged the execution of his own Vice President and the Speaker of the House, and now sits awaiting numerous criminal investigations and indictments has no redeeming qualities.
And so, the _ONLY_ way for a reporter to cover him is by reporting the facts as they exist, and the truth as it's known. Every person who has worked for him, or had a business arrangement with him has offered us his reputation in their books and news interviews. How is it possible for reporters to cover such a man and remain neutral and without an opinion of him?

    • @cateellington6653

I really don’t know what is to love about Maggie Haberman. I see her as a profoundly dishonest narrator who has refused to disclose her personal family connections to the Trumps (I.e. her mother doing PR for the Trumps & Kushners) and her totally dishonest framing of Trump.
Every piece she does seeks to ascribe innocent motives to trump. Refuses to honestly report on him and often simply transcribes Trumps Lies with zero correction to push his bullshit further -like trying to give his lies the air of nyt credibility
Haberman has done extensive damage to the reputation of the NYT and she’s solely responsible for why many many many have cancelled their subscriptions

    • @cateellington6653
      @cateellington6653 2 ปีที่แล้ว

And I beg to differ- when someone sells their “intelligence” to a grifter- so that grifter can get the gravitas he otherwise wouldn’t, that is profoundly unattractive.
I’ll also never forget how Haberman had no qualms about calling Obama a liar during the 2016 election campaigns.
But when it came to Trump-Ms Haberman famously lectured others as to the gravity of a journalist calling Donald Trump (a pathological liar) a Liar. ‘Because none of us can really know what’s in his heart or head’.

@@cateellington6653 It seems Maggie goes out of her way to be fair, and that sometimes takes her in the wrong direction. She's said a lot about Trump leaning in his favor, but lately not as much.
There's that old saying about how Mussolini made the trains run on time -- as if that erased all of the bad he'd done. I don't care if Trump saved a baby from being run over in the street, he's still a creep and an evil person, and I don't say that lightly.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson was suspended 11 games, fined $5 million for abusing women... but Trump's followers made him president. Go figure.

Her job is to be objective, including hurting folks' feelings. She was more psychologically describing Trump, where other authors reported their experiences. She has substantial experience in journalism covering both sides of the aisle.

If you report on him in a neutral fashion, he is still going to look bad because he IS bad. And as long as you identify when you are offering analysis and opinion it seems to me that is legitimate reporting. (Imo, lying, misinformation, cherry picking what to report on, gas lighting, sensationalism in order to influence listener opinion, etc. ... that's not legitimate.)

Maggie here pretends she’s a journalist who writes unbiased pieces better than anyone while in truth writing nothing but Trump puff pieces & why Trumps legal troubles are bad for Democrats in the Midterms.
