I have been very happy with mine - and I tend to be rough on my equipment. (Also a vet and deployed twice). I used the Nebula on the spanish camino pilgrimage trail 500 miles and it held out fine - in fact a lot better than I anticipated. Thank you also for your review on the lowa shoes - I have been looking into new hard wearing shoes and you just pushed me in the right direction.
That's great. I'm not familiar with the Spanish Camino trail, but I will look it up. Thanks for your service too. I always appreciate strong gear to last survive whatever situation we put ourselves in.
I've owned a Nebula 34L since 2019, and it's still on 9/10 condition, it only has some minor wear on the mesh and on the straps, but nothing has broken, and the elastic pockets still work as new. I bought last week this 32L model, but mainly because I like the overall look and colors a little bit more, and the mesh pockets seem much more spacious and practical than the older model. Still, my old Nebula could have served me for many more years, I don't think you should worry about the durability too much
Good to know! I have a bad habit of buying new backpacks all the time, mostly because I enjoy variety, but I think I will be using this Nebula for a long time to come.
I also have the Recon; it's a nice little bag, but I prefer the Nebula for my current needs. If it's important to you, the Nebula does NOT stand up on its own, at least not easily. It doesn't have the same flat bottom like the Recon.
@PreparedToWander ah, thank you for pointing that out! That definitely is a plus for me. But I love the more organization the nebula has. I'm gonna go to REI and have to sit with it there for a minute lol. Thanks for the reply!
@@PhilRuybal Great idea. Load it up with some sandbags in REI to see how it carries weight too. REI also has a great return policy if you decide to buy it and then change your mind.
I use mesh side pockets to pack gloves one side and hat the other for speedy access. This bag would mostly be used as a day pack, cinched down. But I guess tightened bottom compression straps would make the mesh pockets more difficult to use?
I had bottom compression straps on my previous bag, and would sometimes hold my rolled-up jacket down there. But then the jacket would get dirty whenever you set the bag down on the ground. I would still prefer bottom compression straps on a larger outdoor bag, but not necessary for a backpack like this.
@@PreparedToWander Ah, well I meant to say: I presume if you cinch the lower compression straps on your Nebula that the mesh pockets are obstructed. How critical is this? Would the remaining pocket volume still be enough to get a winter hat in and out? Or full-finger gloves confidently retained? Side pockets are major selling point for me.
@@SamuelSaysDoIT In that case, yes the majority of the space in the side pockets would be compressed as well. Still usable for some small things, but not anything significant.

@@PreparedToWander My Nebula from 2016 is still going super strong. One of the most durable things I've ever bought.
Great review man! I have the recon and I'm second guessing it now lol. Does it stand on its own??

@PreparedToWander man, did you LITERALLY just see today they changed their return policy and can now BAN members from doing returns?? Google it!

Does it have a hole or cutout at the top so you could put a water bladder in it?
Yes, there is a hole to route a tube through the top. I don't see a hanger for a water bladder, but you can set it in the laptop sleeve.
Hi, be simple like this and you will rock soon.
Thanks. I just started the channel, so I hope to keep more content coming soon.
