    The Osprey Daylite vs Daylite Plus: Let’s Keep It Simple
    Choosing between the Daylite and Daylite Plus is as simple as deciding how much you room need for packing those essential items.
    Which Backpack is Better?
    Choose the Osprey Daylite if… You want an ultralight backpack for hiking, travel and daily carry or if you prefer the fit of a smaller backpack. The Osprey Daylite offers easy, care-free carry of just the essentials. 13 liters is enough to carry items like a water bottle, phone, wallet, snacks, a light jacket and a tablet or laptop up to 13-inches.
    Choose the Osprey Daylite Plus if… You want a lightweight backpack for hiking, travel and daily carry but need the extra protection of a padded laptop sleeve and could use extra pockets for organization. The 20-liters puts you into daypack territory, not too small but not too big and bulky.

    Daylight 13L hits the sweet spot for ultra lightweight airplane travel and it fits under the seat with room to spare.

    I have both. I would only purchase the "plus" in the future. Unpacked both are very similar in size. The plus allows for more when needed, the upgrades are really nice, and the panel on the front comes in really handy. The main difference in size is how much you pack in the bag. If you packed both with the same items, you would not really notice the Plus is larger. The items will have more room in the plus as shown in the video. The panel on the plus allows for a jacket to be put in and when damp does not get the main compartment items wet. The zippered pocket on the front can hold a cell phone or wallet and you do not need to open the main compartment to access.

    I bought both. Osprey would be geniuses if could factor in a slip pocket on the back of the pack like the Deuter Speedlite 25.

    Great vid. Helped me make my mind up. One thing I never see backpack reviewers show, is how they hang on the back when empty. Some buckle or press into your lumbar in an annoying way when lightly loaded. Would be great to see that demo'd.

    I found the DayLite to be an ideal travel carry-on type bag, and a great day pack. The Plus would have been too big and bulky for the light bag I needed, so the smaller one was the right one for me.

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for sharing your experience! We agree, the size of the Daylite is a sweet spot for those situations where you don’t want a bulky backpack but a sling bag would be too small.

    Good comparison--thanks! One question--with the compression straps on the sides, it'd be possible to make the DL Plus a little smaller if need be, right? I like having that option. Thanks!

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, absolutely. The compression straps control the depth of the pack on light packing days.

    Can both be used as personal bag during a flight that fits under the seat?

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You should check with your specific airline for the personal item size requirements but the Osprey Daylite usually falls under the limit. However, both backpacks are squishy and you should have no issue fitting them under an airline seat if you avoid overpacking them.

  • @horiiizon3457

    would airlines accept bringing a farpoint 40l + the daylite?

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the airline's carry-on and personal item bag requirements. We recommend always checking with the airline for maximum bag dimensions before your flight because every airline is different.

    Osprey should have given the larger bag it’s own name. They gave in to the temptation to capitalize on the popularity of the Daylite name. Unfortunately, they’re making the confusion even worse by offering the Daylite, the Daylite plus, the Daylite 26-2, and the Daylite sling. I love my gen1 Daylite but they need to stop the insanity.

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! There are so many variations of the Daylite now it's hard to keep up.

  • @isabellam1936
    @isabellam1936 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would they even put that pocket there is it can’t fit a normal bike helmet or a normal pair of sneakers. All they has to do was make it just a little more expandable. That was a massive design mistake and makes me want to pass this pack up for something with those features but designed properly.

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good point. It seems like the Daylite Plus was designed more for hiking than commuting or carrying bulky items but expanding the front stash pocket would have been an easy win.

    • @anastasiian9511
      @anastasiian9511 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You're putting the Hydraulics in the wrong place... A designated sleeve on the back of the bag is used for this

    • @Backpackies
      @Backpackies  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The newest Daylite models got rid of the back panel pocket. The hydration sleeves are inside the main compartment now with a hydration port as shown in the video. But yes, the older models had a hydration sleeve on the outside.
