Kawasaki ZZR 1100. Trying to get home with fan failure and high temps

  • Whilst out at the weekend I noticed the engine temp had suddenly started to rise and was quickly heading for the red. I was on the way back and decided to press ahead relying on the air flow through the Rad to keep the engine out of the red. That worked fine whilst on the Expressway but proved more difficult once I was caught in Traffic. The ambient temp here is always high and most big bikes run with the fan on all the time so having mine not working was a real problem.

Glad you got home OK. Reminds me of the time back in the late 80s when the fan belt snapped in my dad's Vauxhall Viva and he was stressing about getting home before the engine completely overheated. I disintctly remember him getting redder and redder as every set of lights went red on the way home 😂

Hi mate, yes it was touch and go. If I had not been able to cool it down on the expressway I would have parked it up and had it picked up by truck.

Hi mate, yes, got it back ok and changed the connectors to the fan. I must have put strain on the wires durung the rebuild which caused one wire to bresk.

@@MichaelZZRrider Glad to hear it. On a personal note it's good to see a D1 in those colours ( which l too own) then the other D1. Which seemed more popular.

ahhhh…. was getting this in London traffic so fitted a manual switch to pull the fans in. The zx12r is worse in solid summer traffic (twin fans) so it was either fit a switch or avoid town.

Luckily it was just a wiring issue. In general I dont get any overheating issues. I did in the past but sorted out the whole system and all now good. Even in the summer here.
