I looked at a number of these vids to install deflectors. You are the only one who mentioned to disregard the clip for '17 and up bikes. The only reason I am even watching these was to figure out where that damn clip was supposed to go. The parts don't come with installation instructions. Thanks for the detail!
Thanks for this tutorial. Made my life very easy with my install. Took me literally 15 minutes to do this. Also appreciate the added info about the new bikes had a nut welded to the back of the frame making the clip obsolete. Only video on TH-cam that mentions that.
I would never of figured that out, and the instructions well, it could’ve came in French and I wouldn’t know the difference. Thanks buddy worked awesome.
I got some for a 2020 street glide special there was no instructions so I had to take side covers off and the seat I put a bolt on the end of a welding rod and fished it down into a hole and put nuts and washers on it was a pain in the ass. As far as the performance there wonderful heat was cooking my balls now don't notice heat at all.
Sorry you went through all of that trouble with yours. I wish they did provide instructions for things like this. That is one of the reasons I decided to start making videos to help people out.
So that feature is called EITMS (Engine Idle Temperature Monitoring System) and I have it turned off (comes from the factory defaulted to off, at least mine did). I don't feel that I have enough stop lights or anything on the regular basis to use it. I do feel like it would be a good feature If you are riding in parades.
My 2018 street glide special was set to on from factory just roll your accelerator grip forward for like 15 20 seconds and it goes off do it again and it comes on.
@@vonsamson2209 Do you happen to know what the temperature has to get to turn off the rear cylinder? I think the oil temp should stay around 235 degrees or so and on this model because of the engine temp sensor location should be around 260 degrees. No way to tell I suppose? The Harley oil dip stick digital temp gauges look good but on the parts page the reviews were terrible and for $150.00 or so not worth it. Most broke within 2 years or so.
I know they're supposed to get air to the back of the cylinder the rear cylinder but with that said when you're sitting at a stoplight in the summer those things retain and hold in a lot of heat
Yeah I can see that but the benefit from that is it is directing it away from your legs at that point. As long as you aren't in stop and go traffic or excessively long stops at stop lights and multiple back to back you shouldn't have an issue with overheating and if you are in areas where that is a factor then you can always enable EITMS which shuts off the rear cylinder when stopped.
Now that you have had the mid frame deflectors how do you like them? Do they hit your thighs at any point even when you extend your legs on to an engine guard Foot peg?
They have not gotten in the way at all for me. I like them mainly for the aesthetics of them filling the gap back there. I haven't really noticed any additional heat on my legs from them that others have talked about but I also don't deal with sitting in traffic to much where I am. I can see that if you are in a place with a lot of traffic you will probably feel more heat on yours legs
Never felt like I was getting burned. I could definitely feel the heat coming off of the rear jug at stop lights. Mainly I installed them because I like the look and it fills the gapping hole that is there. Additionally it should catch air and direct it behind the rear jug creating more airflow to help with cooling.
@@BanditMotoVlogs Thanks for the reply. I just learned something about the deflectors today and wanted to tell you about it. So much info on You Tube and I do not know how accurate the information is but, the person said in real hot riding conditions where your engine temperature is overheating it helps to remove just the left hand side heat shield to allow the right side to act as a wind scoop forcing the wind out the left removed side instead of having both sides installed creating a circle of air not going anywhere. Sounds like it may work for extra hot days?
Ive been considering these for awhile. Hows been riding with them? Are they in the way at the legs. How was their fitment? Ill need to contact them to see if aftermarket engines will work with these. Thanks for the video.
I am a smaller guy at 5'7" and they don't get in the way at all. I like them a lot because they clean up the bike in that area. As for whether or not they work with aftermarket engines I don't know 100% but my assumption is that they would still work because they engine should still take up relatively the same footprint but it wouldn't hurt to reach out and ask.
I considered it but decided to go with black so they didn't stand out as much. Ive seen color matched on other bikes and wasn't really a fan but that is all personal preference. And that's not to say they looked bad because they didn't but just wasn't really my style.
I think for the pair it was less than 100 bucks at harley dealer and harley deflectors come with all bolts and easy install some after market covers I've read dont fit well and dont come with necessary hardware but I bought it 2 years ago stuff has gone up lately cause of sleepy joe also the deflectors from harley are flat black.
Vivid black are $69 on the advanblack website. It came with all associated hardware for the install with the exception of washers that I chose to install with it. If you want to get them color matched to your bike they are $99. Fit an finish on them are excellent. I would agree with the comment by Fatboy25 that most aftermarket don't fit right so I would avoid the amazon/ebay options. But these versions by advanblack fit perfectly and are cheaper than the Harley brand ones that only come in flat black or a see through tinted option ($90.95 for flat black, $99.95 for the see through tinted option).

Glad my video was able to help you out and you are correct that they don't come with installation instructions which can be a pain some times.

Good job on the video. The only thing I would add is a little blue Loctite on the two bolts.
Thanks man I was about to send it back but the torque wrench solution worked
Thanks for the video. Mine came with no instructions. Good job 👍🏾
Beautiful color street glide 😍💪🏼🤙🏼
thanks
Awesome installation video!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
I put also aluminium sticky tape on inside of the deflector - even better result.
Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea.

Great video! Have you ever had the bike heat up enough at a stop where it will shut off the rear cylinder? I think you have to program it do do so?

Squints has the same bike. I thought it was his at first.
How well do they deflect the heat off the motor when riding in the summer months?

Does it help with updraft
Not really. if you want help with updraft that causes buffeting then I would look into lower leg fairings or the fork fangs.
