Wow!! Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I lived in Sydney until mid 1981 and remember it all quite well. Love the Sydney Harbour Bridge scenes. Just of interest, the trams used to use the two traffic lanes on the eastern side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge until 1958. Back then, they even had their own Milsons Point Station. Interesting seeing the Mono Rail. i managed to travel on the Mono Rail during a visit to Sydney in early 2000.
Wow the nostalgia is real with this video. I prefer the old retro designs of Wynyard and Town Hall back then. Now it's all just grey, grey and more grey. Look at how much seating was available at the station platforms too; not to mention all the rubbish bins. Now everyone's glued to their smartphones obnoxiously FaceTiming or watching videos on loudspeaker, impossible to find garbage bins because of constant terror threats. Miss the simpler times!
I caught the train to Chatswood for school every day around this time. It was just a regular suburb back then - Although a great one (with the many shops). And the station was just a regular island platform 2 & 3 and an unused platform 1. And St Leonards down the road was just a quiet station too. Both stations and surrounds are so different now. Yes it's progress (and a delicious one at that with awesome food choices!). But I really miss the old Chatswood.
Grant Goldman announcements were playing in Dubai in 2013. At the airport train connection. I think I heard it too in Paris of all places in 2013 Steve callachor North avoca. N S W
A Goofy Movie, Pocahontas, Toy Story, Jumanji, Casper, Babe, Balto, Cutthroat Island, Batman Forever, Free Willy 2 and more hit theatres in 1995 back then!
Yep.. back then you never knew if youd get an S set, K set, Tangara, C set, S set with desto, K set without desto, i never lived through then though :( I was born at worst time for sydney trains - in 2008… i have vauge memories of the old S sets but now all my better memories are just of Waratah’s…
Technically the station is still at ground level, the bus interchange was lowered to be at the same level as the newly constructed sub-surface concourse/station entry.
Sydney was still normal without stations full of look at me add ons plastered on by government to look progressive for its own sake and overzealous oh&s. I forgot about those stretched VR/VS Commodore cabs to take the disabled 5:25. Also the same as a patrol car 6:14 which were great in their day. Those sliding window panes on the doors I forgot about 11:37. I can see some things were the same like this selfishness 15:59. Great record of the everyday you have here.
its quite interesting. im east asian, and I know that chatswood is now a kind of chinese area but like yk before 15 years ago chatswood was for italians im really curious to the era

I miss the good ol' Chatswood... the station changed a lot when the ECRL got built.
To be fair those wooden stairs were crap, and the station will get a tonne better with the full Metro line open.
Imagine if they could bring back the old Chatswood railway station

Ahh, a fellow Coastie! So Dubai had a guy with an Aussie accent making announcements?

sure miss grant goldman doing platform announcement now days
You can still hear him at Olympic Park Station but I really prefer Grant Goldman to Taylor Owynns.
I was thinking the same thing. You can't beat perfection.
Thanks for the upload, not enough NSW train videos from this time. Proof we can build good trains.
There's still plenty of proof about in the wild. K, V, T, M & H sets are all Aussie.
Chaswood was so different
Great video !
funny i am still riding on the same train 30 years later
Not many SUV's back then on the road.
Trains were a lot more exciting back then. Now 2/3 of the network is just bland Waratahs

17:20 That Tangara does not have the doors closing warning tone.

Yes, everything around chatswood station goes up stairs or escalators to the same height of the station

Broad Gauge originally. Converted to Standard Gauge in later years.
